Made reservations for dinner at Mamasan sushi. It was good, but less is more. Spider handroll and spider roll (not picture here) had way too much eel sauce. The spicy salmon handroll had too much panko flakes. My favorite items was the scallop crudo + the creamy spicy scallop nigiris.

Good food and atmosphere. I was just saying to some coworkers how happy I was that this restaurant survived the Pandemic when so many places struggled to stay open. I've been dining business lunches at Mamasan Sushi for several years. The food is very good, I love their Calimari and often eat the chirashi box. Service is always polite and the room is quiet enough that you can hold a conversation without having to speak over the noise. You can double the times that I've checked in here too because I often order delivery!

Update:On my most recent visit to the area I had to stop in for more great Mamasan Sushi! Would you believe that Cindy greeted me by my first name right when I entered the restaurant! That's remarkable! More great conversation ensued, along with great Sushi of course. If you're in town, go say HI to Cindy and get some great food! These are the businesses I love to support! Thanks Cindy and Mamasan Sushi!

Do not eat here. The whole restaurant smells like sewer and the food was so bad. I got a spicy tuna roll which was so marginal and a spider roll that I sent back because it smelled spoiled and the one piece I ate was disgusting. Salad with ginger dressing had about a 1/4 of water at the bottom of the bowl and the lettuce was mushy. Just avoid this place all together.

Working in my car today and limited on time, I wanted a little sushi to-go. Mamasan was right around the corner and my fellow Yelper's reviews helped my decision. It was about 3pm and no one was in the restaurant save one, Cindy. Cindy, the owner, waitress, sushi chef, busser, and cashier. The usual COVID affect on small businesses. Cindy handed me the menu, but I handed it back and told her to create whatever she wanted. I was hungry, one roll just wouldn't do, two was necessary. After a few questions regarding my taste preferences, Cindy started sushi-ing. A tuna roll and a lobster roll. While making the rolls, we talked about the business, family, COVID and more. Cindy opened the business in Dec 2019, a couple months before COVID hit the US. Like many restaurants, adjustments had to me made to survive. She was unexpectedly optimistic about her situation and said she "loved making sushi." If it tasted as good as it looked, I was in for a treat. I'm not a big sushi connoisseur, but I know when I have incredible tasting sushi. Cindy's love of sushi comes through in her creation. Slap your mamasan it was good. I will be trying a few different menu items while I am working in the area. Let's support Cindy and your favorite restaurants during these COVID times. If your in the area, try Mamasan Sushi. Go adventurous and let Cindy create something special for you. The food and conversation are worth a try. Bon appetit Yelpers!

I reviewed this place about a year ago and loved the tiger eye toll and orange blossom roll. I'm adding the sashimi scallops to the list. The scallops are my favorite.

If you are looking for great eats this is the place! I had the calamari, egg rolls, & lobster rolls (10 to order). It was all delicious! I am so happy I have found this place so I won't actually have to go Downtown, Midtown, River Oaks to get good sushi.

Stopped by with my brother since we were craving quality sushi. First thought is it's empty but being a Tuesday night, it didn't bother us. Apparently they're slow nights are Fridays/Saturdays. That's not a good sign for a sushi bar/restaurant.Fried calamari - salty, weird to be served with sweet and sour sauce, jalapeño is not spicy but not in their control; overall not bad as appetizer to share but portion is small for how much you pay forSpicy scallop maki - good but could use less sauceSpider roll - good, no complaintsHoustonian roll - okay but I would skip; sauce goes well with the cooked salmon on top but this was the least favorite of the 5 maki rolls I orderedRed Devil roll - simple, fresh, and delicious; I recommendSupreme roll - too much sauce but I like the hint of lemon aftertasteOverall it's decent enough if you're not familiar with quality Japanese sushi. Not that I expect it to be as good as Japan but I want quality. Too much sauce on their sushi to overpower how fresh (or not fresh) the fishes are. Since it just opened not too long ago, I will give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt and hope they will be better in the near future.

Well... two days later we came back because 1) there were other things I wanted to try and 2) this is where we were when Astros won Game 5. Good food, good luck, and supporting a local business - why not? We ordered 4 things again, all different, and enjoyed everything. We even debated what we liked the most between both nights and it was hard to choose. Service top notch just like the first night - owner is attentive, nice, and makes some darn good sushi! Fried calamari 5+/5: You must be rolling your eyes, but this is not like your typical calamari rings. The fry is not breaded, more Japanese style, and is delicately crunchy. The cook of the calamari itself was perfect, but it was the taste of it all with the grilled onions that blew us away. It comes with a sweet chipotle like sauce, but the calamari was well seasoned on its own. Fair warning, there's some heat to this, but not so spicy that it's overwhelming.Dragon Eye 5/5: Another no-rice roll, just the way I like it. Pro tip - don't try to bite this in half or it'll all fall apart. Roll it around gently in the ponzu sauce and shove the whole thing in your mouth for a delicious mouthful. The shiso leaf is a great flavor note.Spicy Cilantro Roll 4/5: Not on the menu (yet) so we got to try something new. This roll has a bit of heat to it, but again not overwhelming. It was not my favorite of the night, but it was good. Inside is spicy scallop, outside seemed to be tuna and/or salmon? Since it wasn't on the menu, I forget what all was in it, but it was a decent amount of fish. Flaming Volcano 5/5: I enjoy fun presentations and this dish was on fire! Literally! Even better when it tastes good. Baked shrimp, crab, and scallop in some yummy sauce sitting abed small pieces of crab meat/avocado sushi. Salmon Nigiri 5/5: I noticed there was some citrus glaze on top - love that citrus brightness in the bight. I really have to give props to the owner for her awareness. A lot of places have TVs everywhere but just have random channels or sports games on. She knew we were there to watch the beginning of the Astros game and changed it to the game right as it started. Highly recommend Mamasan Sushi - as much as I don't want to fight a crowd, I want more people to know about this place so it can stay in business and I can selfishly have more yummy sushi.
