Mama Juanita's takes up a good sized space in this strip mall, with a big Houston Methodist medical facility beyond it.

The chips were very good but the salsa was among the best I've tasted.

This place is across the way from Costco, so we figured we would try it out after running some errands. We got here around 7:30 p.m. on a Monday night and were seated right away. The restaurant and bathrooms were not the cleanest, but it wasn't so bad to make us want to leave. Everything seems reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. We tried the white Chile Con Queso (runny with lots of cilantro and red onion) and split a Combo Fajitas for 1, which totaled around $33. I don't know if our server, Emilio, just hooked us up with 6 tortillas or if that is how many they generally give for 1 serving of fajitas. The rice was served on the cast iron plate (with the meat, onions, and guacamole), so the bottom was burnt. The chicken and steak lacked seasoning, and everything tasted really smokey. This place was ok, server was nice, but not my favorite Mexican food in the area.

When it comes to local Mexican restaurants, mama Juanita's is one of the best in town. Starting with the fact that they have plenty of seating and it is easy to get around in the restaurant if you are handicap or visually impaired, to the fact that the employees and management really do care about you as a customer. We went their for dinner and had the mama Juanita's bocadilla platter, which is massive with fully loaded combo fajita nachos and quesadillas, chicken flauta and we chose the beef fajita stuffed avocado, which was huge!Additionally we ordered the traditional beef fajita for one, given the fact the appetizer was enough of a dinner for 2 but it self.Everything was well prepared, plentiful in quantity, and great quality food. They have a very large menu with almost anything you could want with regards to Mexican food. The restaurant is clean and well kept, food comes out in a very timely manor and it is still sizzling and hot right to the table. If your looking for great Mexican food, definitely check them out!

It was just ok. I had the carnitas, they weren't charred like better ones at other places. The portion was good. The plate was sizzling and the rice crisped on the iron plate, I liked that. The charro beans were very delicious. The meat though was blah. We had a small queso, the portion was generous for a small. And the different fried flour chips, wow, great.Margaritas were very good. I just wish I knew the cost before ordering, see below. There was no table menu, but there was a digital menu. There WERE NO PRICES on any of the drinks(???). Also, the digital menu had no prices on the menu items, other than prices for toppings. I took pictures showing no prices. That made ordering from the digital menu very confusing. All this was very confusing, and I would have given them an even lower rating, but service was very good. We ordered water for our kid, and they brought lemonade as a treat, nice! Green and red sauce provided, and good. The chips were disappointing, almost like bagged chips.

The best descriptor for Mama Juanita's is "staying power." Little did I know that, when I first ate here in the late 2000s, it was fairly new. That said, when I asked the waiter (PC-speak: male server) how long they'd been there, he told me 13 years! They do a good business and, as I ate a late lunch there, both the restaurant and the bar seemed fairly busy.As for Mama Juanita's food, the best way I could describe it is to say it's real "clean" Mexican food. Someone I know used this term - "clean" - to describe the flavors at a popular Mexican restaurant in Sac-tomato (PC-speak: Sacramento), presumably meaning that the flavors came through well, that they were at a spot between mild and seasoned that was just right for most people, and that the food was nicely presented. That's exactly how I found the food at Mama Juanita's, from the first time I ate here to the present.I had a combination with two enchiladas and one burrito, which also featured rice and beans. I'm glad I didn't select refried beans. The pinto beans, in a separate cup, were the tastiest I've had at a Mexican locale. The enchiladas and burrito were also very good. Two of them had meat/poultry, but one had spinach, which was fine. I'm just wondering if the spinach ones are true to form Mexican food or a menu adaptation to the current trendiness of seemingly having spinach in everything - pastas, salads, etc. I need to mention that the chips and salsa (salsa roja and salsa verde) were delicious. I had a satisfying lunch and left pretty full. I also need to mention that the price for the combination platter was very fair. The server did a great job. We spoke Spanish. I like to practice it whenever I can, providing the other person doesn't get all offended or uptight about it. He did not. This does happen in the U.S. at times, but I'd be offended, too, if the only thing a stupid gringo could say to me is "dos cervezas, por favor" and think he's clever while doing it. In Spain and in South America, it's standard for Americans who can manage in their lingo to speak Spanish, and it is well received. However, language aside, he, and others who might have brought items to the table, provided excellent service. The interior is airy and I liked how well the climate was controlled, each time I've been here. Also, there are these goofy murals on the walls ... the typical gaudy, overwrought murals one sees in Mexican restaurants. They made me chuckle.Mama Juanita's is in The Woodlands, but it's not by the mall, the waterway, and the big corporate complexes. It's a ramp or two up from that, off of I-45, and in a strip mall, just slightly east of the freeway. There has been a lot of growth. As I parked the car and approached Mama Juanita's, a big Houston Methodist branch hospital or medical office building was looming beyond it and staring at me.

My husband and I had lunch here yesterday and it was awesome. The staff seemed to read our minds helping with suggestions on drinks and entrées. The food was tasty, it was hard to choose from all wonderful dishes offered. We definitely will b back.

Parking was a little tight but once inside the staff was very friendly and responsive. The waiter brought us chips and salsa quickly which we enjoyed. The dinner we got was tasty and I would get it again. The chicken fajitas were a little dry but still tender and flavorful.
