cool place to go for some fresh fish. When i want catfish fresh I go here, and always wind up with some little kid walking by watching me order fish. I guess they love to see the fish come out of the tank and flop around before being murderlized by the man with a club. Ahh the circle of life.while fresh seafood is the main reason I go here (be on look out for great crawfish here too) they have a good selection of produce as well. I get dragon fruit from here sometimes. Its an intresting place you will see all manner of people here. but it can stink inside sometimes I think its the fish guts in the back I mean they are going all homicidal on some fish back there all day.

It's a great International Market. Does have a fishy smell. Because they sell fresh seafood. Haven't bought any meat products there. But they have a great African/Caribbean Isle for stuff you can't find at Fiesta food markets.

Think it's closed....lady at soup restaurant next door said Mama had a flood and would open at beginning of month...this was July...it's now August and there is no activity there. I will miss it. It was closest Asian market to my house.

i don't know if this market is always so slow, or if it was just because it was a monday morning, but there was no one there besides the workers. they had a wide variety of foreign fruits and vegetables and other foodstuffs. (yes, i just said foodstuffs.) there were rainbow colored beans in one aisle, and funky drinks that some people's wildest imaginations couldn't even come up with. i got me some guava nectar (standard classic), and a bizarre pink drink that was rose flavored with basil seeds. i used to trick my white friends that bubble tea was tadpoles, and always got a kick out of the disgusted faces they'd make as i happily slurped it all down. well, i don't know if these are real basil seeds, or what, but these things really do look like tadpoles. well, if they are, they taste like tapioca balls and have the texture of ikura (salmon roe). anyways, i'm not dead, and i drank it yesterday, so i guess i'm a fan.

- 1 for that self-absorbed Bratzilla that forgets he wasn't born knowing everything ... -1 for having conversations & making comments concerning patrons, completely spoken in mandarin ... A bad attitude is universal, Bratzilla ! +1 Well kept store...+1 Hard to find specialty items + Good layouts and placement

Pretty much like any other Asian food market, Mama Food Market is located off of the South-West corner of Gessner and West Park. It's not much, but it's something I guess you could say. When you first walk in, you get a big wiff of that weird smell that comes with all Asian food markets. It's a little off putting at first, but what they sell makes up for it. You might have to hold your breath every now and then, though. They have live lobsters, dungeness crabs, and tilapia just chillin' in tanks in the back. The dungeness crab was 10.99/lb which isn't too bad. Next to the tanks, there was a section of seafood sitting on ice. There was a giant fish that scared me ): To the left of that is the packaged meat, which also was a pretty good price. My boyfriend and I ended up buying some drumsticks and BBQ sauce to make for dinner tonight. We grabbed some squash and zucchini to go along with, and we saw all of the vegetables were pretty fresh. Most Asian markets I can't say the same for. They even have giant tubs of kimchi! Which I had to take a picture of :3 When we got up to pay, the young Asian man at the register had his back turned and was actually a few feet away. He turned around and saw us as we were closing in on him. He wasn't even like, 'Oh, oops.' He just casually took his sweet precious time coming back to ring us up. My boyfriend greeted him and was not replied to. He scanned all of our food and put it all in the same bag. RED FLAG. You do NOT put raw meat, even if it's packaged, and fresh vegetables in the SAME BAG. Everyone knows that.. Was it too hard to put the chicken in a separate bag? Must be trying to save your sweet precious bags. Kind of bothered me but, whatever. I then noticed the guy had a gigantic hicky on his neck, which made me laugh out loud. I had to look in different directions so I wouldn't make eye contact with him, lol. I couldn't help myself. At least get the girl that gave it to you to cover it up, man. All in all, cheap, but smelly in some parts, and rude service.

Large East Asian grocery store with an emphasis on Vietnamese food items, but many Chinese and South Asian items as well. Cardamom, hing powder and other South Asian spices are stocked. Overall, the prices are average (neither high nor low) by Asian grocery store standards, but very low compared to the Asian sections of regular grocery stores.
