I got a quarter of a muffuletta warmed and it was amazing! It was the perfect amount for just me & very filling. I enjoyed my meal outside on their nice little patio featuring a beautiful mural. The employees were sweet and everything came out fast.

When you visit places like this to eat you immediately see why it's a restaurant where locals eat or those in the know that use Yelp. Yes, they sell spices, seasonings, imported pastas and sauces, etc. but the real reason you come here is to eat. And it better be for lunch as they stop serving at 3 pm and close the store for the other stuff at 5 pm. I'll give you a tip. When you arrive here it may look very busy with all of the cars parked on the street in front. Most of those cars are not for this business. Come on in.Inside it reminds you of a small version of Central Grocery in the New Orleans French Quarter or the way the that Stanton's City Bites in Houston looked years ago before they remodeled. Kind of a bodega feel to it. The food here is seriously good. Their sandwiches are legit. Most famous is their muffuletta that you can get as a whole,1/2 or just a 1/4. Prices are reasonable. I've had the 1/2 muff served warm and the bread was so soft and the interior so flavorful. It was simply delish. I've also tried the seafood gumbo in a bowl and it was excellent with an authentic roux. On my next visit I must try the roast beef sandwich. The seating inside is a few small tables and a counter area with stools. They also have a nice uncovered outdoor seating area if the weather is nice. It's counter service here and they always have a daily specials board. Come eat here!

I really like this store! They had a ton of grocery items (even Arab items like labne), their own spice brand, and they had seating as well if you wanted to get some food to eat from here. Overall ambiance was nice. I got the Caprese sandwich, it was literally the best sandwich I have ever eaten. It was so flavorful, I seriously think about it all the time. The only reason I haven't come back yet was because it was pretty pricey at $14, and the portion wasn't all that big either. Service was good, might just have to come back when I'm not a broke grad student to enjoy their food again!

Iconic Galveston spot for muffulettas and spices. Great spot for lunch close to the Strand.

Stopped here during our recent visit to Galveston because of the advertised "Home of the famous Muffaletta." Was a little surprised when we drove up because of being in the Strand. It is basically a charming dive in an old building. If you've ever been to Jimmy's in Dallas, this is a miniature likeness except Cajun instead of Italian. The service was friendly and personable. But for the Muffalatta, Heaven! Served warm on pillowy soft buns with cheese overflowing down the sides and perfect portions of meat and olive salad. It was amazing!A must try if visiting Galveston!

Visiting the island from Chicago and ran a across the Maceo spice and deli shop, loved the caprese, wish they weren't out of the cannolis but brining a bunch of spices home and can't wait to try them. Highly recommend checking them out!

Service was great. So helpful and we were told the differences in similar spices. Ended up with 5 at $6.95 each. If we have picniced earlier, we could have eaten a Muffaletta there! If it a tiny place packed with tons of items, not necessarily for sale so it eating there might not be another's tastes. We eat anywhere, so I with try something next time. It is not a romantic setting, but a fun place to go.

I'm a Louisiana man and my wife a l went to Galveston for the first time this past weekend. We found Macon's on YouTube and wanted to try it. We are frequent travelers to New Orleans and enjoy going to Central Grocery for their muffuletta. However we loved Maceo's muffuletta even more! Warm, juicy full of wonderful meat and the olive mix. OMG! Delicious! The staff and family so friendly along with old world charming atmosphere! Super people and super place . I also loaded up on spices.

I always see Maceo on lists of best Galveston restaurants and finally made it for lunch this trip. The restaurant is a bit divey and unassuming, but I feel like it just adds to the authenticity of it. They have a nice little market and tons of spices too. We bought a few to try out, so will update on how they are!For lunch, we both had the Great Combo with a Quarter Muffalleta and gumbo. Both are a good sized portion. I was a little hesitant of the Muffalleta because I don't like olives, but it was really good! The bread was so delicious and fresh and the meat, cheese, and olive salad was well balanced. The gumbo was good too, but I'll try the red beans next time.Another go-to for our Galveston trips!
