Laykie's Gourmet

I have been to Laykie's Gourmet Cafe at the J a few times. The food is always good and the service is great. Its in the lobby of the JCC and its nice enough to meet with customers there. Today, I had them cater a lunch for me and it was worth every penny. They delivered the food early, it was great and there was a lot of food. Everyone raved about the Lasagna, and the cookies, while not low fat, were delicious. I was very happy that there was enough that people were comfortable going back for seconds.I highly recommend going to Laykie's and trying her delicious food.

I've had their food and drinks numerous times. Their grilled salmon with rice and veggies is pretty amazing. Great sandwiches as well. They would do well with a stand-alone location.

I used to work at for Meals on Wheels the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC, where Laykie's Gourmet Cafe is located. Laykie prepares the Kosher meals that the MOWs crew delivers to over two dozen clients nearly every day. First, (this is important) Laykie's Cafe is Glatt Kosher. That means that any meat, so certified, is ritually slaughtered by a "shochet" who has been rigorously trained to minimize the suffering of the poultry and animals he kills. The lungs and other internal organs are carefully examined to make certain they do not have lesions, parasites or disease.I regularly went into her very clean kitchen and had many opportunities to see the food preparaed. She is very much a hands-on owner who carefully oversees her small staff. Her husband, a rabbi, oversees the Kosher food operations of several large supermarkets in the area. Her son also sometimes works in the kitchen and delivers and sets up catered affairs. I was especially impressed by the efforts she and her staff make to ascertain that greens like romaine, which traditionally harbor insects are carefully washed, separated, rinsed again and then the individual leaves are laid out under very bright lights where they are again inspected and sometimes, rejected as unclean or unfit for the observant.Earlier reviewers praised the seafood. My bride, a very picky eater, loves the salmon dinner. I am partial to her salads and sandwiches (served on excellent rolls) as well. I have heard carping (yeah, bad pun) about the price. Kosher poultry, meat and other certified products require a lot of attention and TLC from farm to table. And, the cost reflects this. Her and her staff's efforts are very much respected by the customers who regularly eat their lunch at the cafe seating or just drop in for a coffee, tea and nosh to socialize with their friends.

I just ate the Salmon on Salad from Laykies and I must say it was one of the best salads I have ever had. The dressing was also good but I do not know what is was. I will be ordering this again.

There are few times in life in life when a meal is so expertly crafted and planned that it was nothing short of genius, last night I had one of those meals - the Mahi Mahi.The dish was excellently prepared. Grilled, juicy, and fresh without a hint of fishiness. A glaze of tangerine sauce brought a hint of tart sweetness. The fish as placed on a mound of sweet plantain rice. The combination of the fish and rice alone was to die for!

I ordered catered meals from Laykie. She cooked us salmon with veggies and stuffed shells, chicken wraps, and apricot chicken with veggies and rice. All three meals were delicious and enjoyed by the whole family! Laykie was also super nice when I picked up the food. I couldn't give Laykie a higher recommendation!

I have been here multiple times and will be back as often as I can. Food is delicious and always fresh. They have a wide selection of sandwiches, salads and other goodies ready to go.

Great sandwiches also great service and they made every bodys sandwich very fast & i will return.

I needed to order a kosher lunch at work for a client. I found Laykie's online on a Jewish community board and called them. I was able to order a great cold lunch just one day in advance. Order process was easy, food was healthy, fresh, tasty and kosher. Delivery on time and price was good. I highly recommend Laykie's Catering.
