Open when I needed it most. Wanted to get some rice and beans and meat in my diet and this spot gave me a good pick. The chicken and pork here are cooked in different styles, but every dish tasted well flavored, coming with a fresh mini salad (if you ask) and amazing rice. My favorite two parts, though, were sweet corn tamales and the potato ball. OMG, what? I had tamales many times in my life, but this tastes like corn bread, steamed, with fresh corn in it too. They didn't have it the second time I came it, but it seems like they swap out or run out of appetizers sometimes, so get there earlier in the day to check it out. The potato ball and alcapurrias speak for themselves- potato, deep fried, sometimes with ground beef inside. Ask for gravy if you want it extra flavorful. YUM!Some tips- First off, since it's cafeteria style, don't expect it to be piping hot at the end of the day. You may have to come home and heat it up. I came around lunch time and was able to eat everything in the park on the way home at a good temperature. Since it's a small operation, results may vary. Respect the neighborhood and this spot and try it out when you can!

Reviewers complaining about service, what do you expect from a cafeteria style corner store?! Wilma, the owner, is no nonsense & she has to be that way because of where she's located. As with all of these types of places, come early for the freshest selection. If you waltz in @ 5 p.m., what do you expect? Good slow food @ fast food prices.

Before I uploaded my photos, the photos already posted before were since 2011. So a few years has passed, and there has been changes since then. For starters, "del Bronco" is no longer attached to the name "La Esquina". It has been removed, so the place is now just called La Esquina. This establishment is situated a block away from the Frankford L line on Front Street. I was a bit nervous when I got to the area because of where they were located. It is only street parking. A lot of stragglers just hanging out at the sidewalks. When I entered the place, it was hot! Feels like the air conditioner is not operating. They serve their food cafeteria style, where you point which dish you want. They only do platters here: rice, small plain salad of a few lettuce and a tomato, and a choice of the main entrees on display. It costs around $8.00 for the platter. The food was cold, and I presume it has been sitting there since it was laid out this morning. I arrived here at 5 pm so I hope I don't get an upset stomach. The grilled chicken was cold, dry and seemed like leftovers from a previous day. The hotdog in a stew and the grilled chicken does not warrant the $8.00 price. I was glad that I didn't pay full price because I used a restaurant.com voucher. It seems that this place would cater to the working class group. The lady working the counter looked unhappy and disinterested. I initially asked if she also included utensils in my take out and she said yes. Luckily I checked the bag before I left and indeed there was none. This place should not even be participating in the restaurant.com list of restaurants. Am I returning or recommending this place to others? My answer is a big fat HELL NO!.

I stopped here because i was in the area getting my hair done and I was hungry afterwards, so this was my place of choice since I love spanish food. The area is a bit scary and rough around the edges. I went inside and waited a little while to be waited on because upon my entrance there was no one at the counter. After about 5 minutes a short spanish lady came to take my order. I had to shave off a couple of stars because the customer service skills just werent there. She seemed quite a bit annoyed by the fact that I had to ask what a couple dishes were being as though none of them were labeled. I ordered fried fish, rice and beans and bacalou (sp.). The food was obviously not freshly made, for it was sitting in a buffet style warmer. My salt fish ( bacalou) was semi cold which lead me to believe that the dish was probably frozen from a prior time and placed in yhere to be defrosted and hadnt been fully defrosted. I believe the food would have been really good it it had been made fresh. Parking is also scarce around these parts. I dont think i would go back again.
