This is an old bakery that hasn't been renovated. Though there are display cases at the front and at the sides of the store, there isn't any bread displayed. The menu is simply a piece of paper right at the front where the cash register is. The options offered aren't a lot but what they have, is sufficient for me. I bought pineapple milk pastry bun, taro bun, BBQ bun, red bean bun, pineapple bun, pork sung bun, and pineapple egg custard bun. The buns were huge but for the buns with fillings (red bean bun, taro bun, and pineapple egg custard bun), they were in need of for more fillings. The BBQ bun was the only one that had the right amount of filling. The fillings were delicious though. The taro filling was real taro which was super good. My favorite bun was the pineapple milk pastry bun. The crust at the top of the bun was delicious. Warning: for all the pineapple buns, the crusts fall off the top easily. It is best to eat these buns in a bowl so as not to waste any of the goodness. I came here at 8.30am but their egg tarts weren't ready yet. The steam BBQ bun wasn't ready for sale too. I was told the egg tarts will be ready at 9.30am. I would assume that would be the case every time. Note to self.

I came here on Christmas on a whim!! Happy since everything at around noon is fresh! Unfortunately yes this is one of the few places that is open today!I didn't get any egg tarts but looked pretty good today. The cashier lady was quick to check everyone out and pulled breads off the cooling rack. Reminds me of the Krispe Kreme when the donuts were really hot but Asian breads. I love the bun part but the char siu meat is lesser than before don't blame them because of inflation. Why can't we just pay more...for better stuff!! Stop being so cheap.

King Bakery is a small shop located in the bustling red plaza in Chinatown, Houston. The inside is very small and dim, and I thought it was closed for the day with the empty shelves and low lighting. However, when you walk in, there is a couple of older people ordering tons of buns! The person in front of me ordered 24 pork buns. No wonder the shelves were empty, and I can definitely see why. The buns are super delicious! I got three pork buns and two pineapple buns. The pineapple buns were still being baked, so we waited for 20 minutes. When we came back, we tried getting more, but the older people in front of us ordered the rest ;-; Their buns are so popular that the moment it comes out the oven, it is sold! The pineapple buns were warm. The inside was fluffy, and it was crispy on the top. I think it has to be one of the BEST pineapple buns I have ever had, especially when it is fresh out the oven. Please please try their pineapple buns!! The pork buns was also delicious, and the inside is perfect! The outside of the pork bun reminds me of a Texas Roadhouse roll, so think of their pork bun as a butter roll with char siu pork filling inside. Everything is also super cheap and less than $2. Overall, this place is definitely a hole in the wall with great prices and great buns!

From the empty storefront, it might be hard for a visiting tourist to tell how popular the place is, but a local would know that this place is a must if you're looking for the freshest buns out of the oven. They carry a variety of baked goods from egg tarts to cookies to the classic buns (BBQ, custard, pineapple, hot dog, etc.). Please note that the buns are made fresh and sometimes the supply cannot meet the demand, so you may find that a wait is necessary for another fresh batch to come out the oven. However, the buns are well worth the wait. If you do find yourself in luck for some of the BBQ and pineapple buns, don't hesitate to buy more than you can eat in the moment. Pro tip: if you have an air fryer at home, you can buy a week's supply of breakfast and heat up using the air fryer for a fresh out of the oven taste.

King Bakery is the definition of a hole in the wall spot that you don't know unless you know. It's a family owned bakery that specializes in bbq pork buns and pineapple buns. The people are super friendly and very down to earth. If you get here near closing time (4 pm), good luck getting any more pineapple buns. They sell out pretty quickly and the kitchen won't make anymore once it gets near closing time. Every time I go, there's also people who order at least a dozen of these (or the bbq pork buns). If that's not a sign that this bakery is good, I don't know what is.Onto the pineapple bun taste, the crispy flakes on top are amazing. The inside is so soft and fluffy creating the perfect balance between hard and soft. They've nailed this pastry perfectly. The pineapple bun itself is also a good size for one person. Only downside is that I'm a messy eater and there are crumbs all over my face each time. Will be adding it to my frequents.

This place is Not fancy. They have a fantastic selection of bao and you need to get there early if you want to get the best flavors or they will be out. The service is good but they do it speak the best English... but they language of bao is enough! Best Bao in town!

They make the best BBQ pork buns I've had. The bread is delicious and has a nice chew to it, and the filling is also more plentiful than what I get at other places. Price is good too: $1.80 per BBQ bun (just raised from $1.75, but still an excellent price). They also have good egg tarts, taro bun, beef curry bun, and pineapple bun. I come here often and pick up some buns for my office meetings and church parties when I get tired of donuts and kolaches. Must try! Please note: pineapple buns don't actually have pineapple in them! They are named by the way they look. Still very tasty!

This bakery will sell out in several hours, every day, rain or shine, like clockwork. They take cash only so come prepared. The parking here is terrible as it's in a plaza where there are tons of stores. We were recommended the pineapple custard bun which had a flaky outside texture and creamy custard (not too sweet) inside. The best thing though was definitely the pork bun which was generously stuffed with sweet char siu pork. My baby loved the breads! Definitely worth the visit!

This place has amazing Chinese baked goods. The cha Siu boas are amongst the top 3 I've had in my life. Don't look for filled display cases...they sell right off the speed racks because everything sells out quick. The kitchen tries to keep up with the demands. The pineapple buns, the sesame balls, the egg tarts, the pork floss boas and every single item I've ever gotten there are epic!! Every time I travel near Houston, I go out of my way to get to this place. You won't be disappointed!
