I met a few locals last night and asked them this question. Where can I get the best Phili Cheese Steak? I did not know that question would bring up a passionate conversation between the two locals. They are serious about their choices! After they cooled down they agreed they would give me directions to Jim's South Street. I walked half a mile through town to get a shot to eat my first cheese steak and judge for myself if this was truly a good sandwich. I finally arrived and long line had formed coming from inside and around the corner. I could smell the cooking beef steak and onions coming out the front door and onto the road. When it was my turn to order I ordered a cheese, onions, tomatoes, and chili pepper Phili Cheese Steak. The thinly slices of beef steak were tender and the melted cheese was delicious! The addition of chili peppers put it over the top! Now I know why this place has won the "Best of Philly," and countless "best of/favorite/people's choice" awards. Thank you kind locals for the tip but I'm sorry for starting an argument. lol.

Jim's Steaks is a fun place to go. Very busy but fast moving. When you get to the counter, you better know what you want or get out of the way!I had the cheesesteak with provolone and onions. The sandwich itself was good quality, but I found it bland, needed seasoning... at least more salt. But, still a great place to visit and try if you're in Philly.

Damn Jims , you used to be SO GOOD to me . I mean any and everytime I visited Philly, you were one of my stops - I was sooooooooo sad when I heard you got burned down and needed time to renovate- but I was also extremely excited when I got the news you had reopened to the public - so I just knew I had to come grab a cheesesteak . I get here and the place has more seating but the front remains familiar- I might be alittle too excited at this point to eat - but sadly, once I got it - it was bland. The meat was over chopped (almost like dog food) idk if the whiz loses flavor for being back there too long but its super thin and no taste. No way this is the same Jims Ive been supporting since early 2000's . I decided to try again cus aint noway ! But it is just that . Jims is trash . Both of us agreed. And after visiting Pats, we just KNEW that we wouldnt be coming back to Jims south street anymore (tear)

The cheesesteaks were good here. We stood in line for about 15 minutes before getting our cheesesteaks. We ended up getting 1 cheese steak with wiz and onions. It was good but the bread wasn't the kind to take it over the top. I've had better to be honest.

CASH Only, 2 ATM available inside the store. My first visit to Jim's after 13 years. In between this time, they went thru an unfortunate fire accident and subsequent renovation, and now the place looks amazing. They incorporated the artifacts of Magic garden (walls made out of recycled goods), it's so unique and beautiful on the second floor. I must say it looks so much more attractive as a touristy spot now, compared to 2011.It's still really popular with the tourists. We had to get in line outside the store, took us about 15 minutes to get in front of the cook. It's pretty incredible to see all those huge amount of steak laying on the grille. Got whiz with onions and peppers. Quality cheesesteak, soft bread, dripping cheese and very thinly shredded steak. I liked it much more than Geno's. If anyone ask me, I'd tell them to go to Jim's than any other cheesesteak place in Philadelphia.

If you're in Philly, you've got to try a Philly cheesesteak, baby - it's practically the law! Following advice from the cook, I asked for the most authentic Philly experience and was recommended a mouthwatering combination of Cheese Whiz, provolone, onions, peppers, and mushrooms on my cheesesteak. Pairing it with a delicious cream soda rounded out a classic meal.Adding to the experience, the restaurant was adorned with breathtaking art from a local Mexican artist, creating a unique and vibrant atmosphere throughout the building. The service was fast and friendly, making it a delightful stop for both locals and visitors alike. For a true taste of Philly and a cultural feast for the eyes, this spot definitely hits the mark!

We came here because we saw that it was a super popular spot! There's a line out the door, and the wait is easily 30-45 minutes on a Sunday night. There's a clear view to see them making the sandwiches, which definitely helps pass the time. They also have a ton of seating (both downstairs and up), and it's kept really clean, which was great. We got the cheesesteak with whiz, mushrooms, and onions. The steak was well seasoned and decently tender, and the cheese whiz added a nice creaminess and goopiness to everything. The bread was a bit floppy, and seemed like the cheapest white loaf you could get, which was a bit disappointing. The flavor also did get monotonous towards the end, but they did have packets of hot sauce that helped.Overall, definitely a good spot, and worth checking out!

This place gets a lot of hype. I was excited to try it, but it was kind of a letdown. I highly recommend getting the cheesesteak with the whiz. I got it with onions and provolone, and both the sandwich and meat didn't have a lot of flavor. FYI, this place is cash only. They do have an ATM onsite.

When in Philly, you have to get a Philly cheesesteak! Jim's is where the local go. The line wraps around the corner, but moves fast and can be worth the wait.Definitely get "Wit Whiz". I got with provolone and for some reason my meat wasn't seasoned and it was pretty bland. My spouse got with cheese whiz, and it was very flavorful. Plenty of seating in the new upstairs area. Service is fantastic. Love watching the cooks whip up your sandwich right in front of you.

This place is THE GOAT. It's even better since they reopened. The larger facilities are fantastic, you've got to check out the original mosaic murals from the 60's that were preserved and restored. BUT THE CHEESESTEAKS ARE EVEN BETTER. The bread is the same fantastic roll as before but the meat is even better, very lean and very tasty. My advice is: - bring cash and tip well - if you MUST have fries buy them across the street, Jim's doesn't mind. - order wiz with (onions), soda and chips provolone, mushrooms, peppers and the like will only distract you from a cheesesteak's brilliant balance of bread meat and cheese. adding onions imho enhances it just the right amount in the right way. No need to put a mustache on the Mona Lisa! - tell your family and friends if they order wrong you will NOT share! - enjoy the best sandwich ever - tour the murals upstairs - take a minute to reflect on just how awesome this was and you are - on the way out tell the kitchen team how much you enjoyed itLove Peace Cheesesteaks
