I've passed by this mysterious yellow building so many times this past year and finally decided to drop by. The inside I have to say is a little dim, but the excellent hospitality I was greeted with totally counteracted that. They have a wide range of items on their menu at VERY awesome prices. You can get a combination plate which includes your main entree and two sides for $6-$8. They have your usual chopped BBQ, fried chicken, fried turkey, cubed steak and for those of you more adventurous ones out there - pigs feet! You have to get there early though. I was there at 12:30 PM and they were already out of chopped BBQ. Bad for those of us who come later in the day, but a good sign that their food is great.I ordered the fried chicken combination (you can pick from white or dark meat) with a side of candied yams and collard greens. I washed it down with a delicious, but outrageously sweet cup of lemonade. I literally had to cut the lemonade with a full cup of water, but it was good nonetheless. Then, you have the opposite end of the spectrum with the food being pretty heavily seasoned. I personally don't see this as a bad thing because I've been to a string of restaurants lately where the food was just way too bland. So this is just a warning for those of you who don't like your food too salty. The fried chicken was decent, but the yams and collard greens were the best I've had in a really long time. They also offer different desserts daily. They're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner M-F, but they're only open for breakfast and lunch on Saturdays. If you haven't tried this place before, please do. Both food AND service is great, which believe it or not, is a very rare combination these days.

Yum, yum!! We were greeted kindly as we walked in. The owner and cook greeted, served and cooked fresh food. The food was served hot. We totally plan to go back. Greens and homemade lemonade are awesome! Les loved his pork chop and pintos. Lots of good options to choose from. This place is surprisingly neat in so many ways. They serve breakfast, lunch and early dinner (close at 6). It's definitely a casual setting. We felt loved walking out.

The one and only reason they didn't earn five stars is because of the abhorrent customer service experienced yesterday evening. One of the staff working decided to sit at the window and eat her freshly made food BEFORE serving the line of customers outside. They were the only vendor left with fries after homecoming, but their food is always terrific. Just beware of bad service.

I went here for lunch and was absolutely amazed. I've been looking for some good, authentic Soul Food and this is it. This food tastes like the food grandma cooks. Is seasoned perfectly (at least to my liking, as I hate bland food). The food comes out hot and fresh. I ordered fried pork chops, candy yams and macaroni n cheese. The pork chops were absolutely amazing you get two HUGE bone in pork chops fresh and hot out of the grease. The candy yams were also good with just the right amount of cinnamon and sugar. And last but not least was the Mac and cheese which was delicious. I don't eat everybody's Mac n cheese. And I can only name maybe two restaurants that sell real soul food style Mac n cheese (not that crap out of the box). They serve both breakfast, lunch and dinner and have a wide range of options to suit your fancy. For lunch and dinner they serve baked and fried chicken (white and dark meat). They serve fried and smothered pork chops, ox tails, turkey legs and many other entrees. The best sides would have to be the yams, Mac n cheese, cabbage and greens. Check this place out. Oh and I didn't mention that the majority of the plates range from $6 - $8

Ms Phyllis is wonderful. I have no eaten there for a while. I got a chance to revisit North Carolina around the first week of March. I must say it was very good to see her after being gone for a little over five years. This restaurant is known for their fatback. Although due to covid breakfast was not being served I still was able to enjoy a great meal. Thank you again for remembering me and your hospitality.
