J. Alexander's is in Uptown Park.The parking is free.The food is really good. The ambiance is luxury.Every time I come here older rich men try to talk to me so if you are out on that time or bar hopping, this might be a place for you.The service is exceptional.They have really bad gnats (flys). These flies are aggressive and will not take no for an answer as it pertains to your food and drinks.

Nice restaurant. Great location. The was good. My husband had steak and mash potatoes. I had a baked potato and the Hong Kong shrimp appetizer. The steak was cooked to perfection. And it was tender. I would have added a little more salt but it was good. I wasn't very hungry so I have the Hong Kong shrimp appetizer for a meal. I really liked the flavor of the sauce. It was our first time trying this restaurant and I would go back. The service was great. We were seated without waiting. We arrived around 6pm. The waitress was very attentive.

I was dreaming about the spinach con queso since I left Michigan so I made sure to run, not walk, to J. Alexander. I had to call first because it says they're closed online, they aren't. Got there on a Saturday at 8pm and grabbed a seat at the bar. Eric, our bartender, was such good energy and seemed so kind. The staff was really great and the desserts, along with the spinach con queso made my night :).

OK OK OK - The food has been absolute heaven! The service, not so much. I don't blame it on the service staff, I blame it on the management. Simple tasks like filling water and removing empty glasses are neglected. We asked for the dessert menu and he brought us a paper that said see your server! He didn't know that until we told him. Simple things like this are overlooked and negate from an otherwise great experience. Training, training, training.

Ambience was relaxing and warm soft lighting, the food was decent portions. Lots of booths to have a great conversation with friends/ family. The selection of food was abundant and the staff were good with communication.

General Description:Upscale American grill type of restaurant.Good:- Service was quick. I came in a little past lunch time on a Friday and it was quite. I'm sure the service would've been the same if it had been busy.- Food was good but nothing special. I wish I tried one of their steak selections, but I wasn't that hungry.- Clean and modern interior.- Lots of parking spots.Bad:n/aOverall:I need to come back and try one of their main dishes in order for me to give them a true 5 star rating.

Love the food and service here! From my experience, you don't need a reservation especially during the week. My go to meal is the steak n fries and the caesar salad. The service is amazing and super quick.

It was surprisingly great in terms of service, food and atmosphere. It feels like a nicer, newer and slightly brighter version of the old Houston's.Loved the shrimp Louie salad. A great value for $20 and delicious and filling with avocado and lots of goodies. Also enjoyed a tasty baked potato.Nice fun atmosphere with the booths in the bar area feeling upbeat. Service was attentive. Only suggestion is for hostesses to be friendlier and not ask if you have a reservation when the restaurant is half full and casual dining. Is it necessary to have reservations at fast casual restaurants now if you just want a bar table?

We arrived on time for our 6:30p dinner reservation. The atmosphere is elegant yet family friendly. Dark wood decor... Very classic contemporary. The guests were mature and the noise level was a soft lull. I liked the bar area which is straight ahead as you enter, but nestled on the other side of the dining room section.We ordered a couple appetizers, two entrees and sparkling wine. If you like calamari, GET IT!!!! Big shareable portion and deliciousThe smoked salmon dip is pretty good, but it is served chilled, so be prepared for that. My companion didn't like it, but I would get it again (smile)The main courses were very good...pan seared red fish with lemon butter and brussel sprouts (kinda overly charred, but tasty). The wild rice orzo side is served cold ~ kinda like a slaw. Very good ~ next time I'll get it with another mainA salad with fried chicken and packed full of other fresh ingredients.... HUGE PORTION! GET A TO GO BOX for this salad.It was a nice setting for catching up with friends, date or solo... I'll see y'all again soon!

J Alexander's is our new favorite restaurant in Houston. We've eaten there several times now. Love the decor, the space between tables, the fact that it's not so loud that you can't carry on a conversation.And the prime rib. Outstanding and very reasonably priced.Also the carrot cake is THE best I've ever eaten. Even better than mine, which is saying something! We love this place
