Izakaya Wa

This place is very authentic and delicious! I have been countless times for dates, friends, with kids, etc--they always serve consistently good Japanese food at an efficient pace. The skewers are a specialty--would recommend Japanese sausage, Negima, and Asparagus Bacon!For rolls we like the Memorial Roll, Boheme, and even their basic Spicy Tuna is a cut above other places. Be sure to try rotating specials they have too--written on the chalkboard outside sometimes. Highly recommend!!

Love that Izakaya Wa is near my office. When I'm craving sushi, this place is always my first choice. Most of the time I always order the half and half special. Which is half portion rice bowl with sushi and half portion udon or soba. The udon always seems freshly made and the broth is *chef kiss*. Sushi is always chef choice. Sushi is always fresh here. We love everything about this place. One favorite appetizer is the nasu toromiso (not pictured).

Hands down best sushi in Houston! Authentic Japanese restaurant with friendly staff and great service. I live in the Tampa Bay area and I cannot find good sushi to save my life. So I tend to over indulge here when I visit Houston. Fresh fish and great spider rolls. They get packed quickly as soon as they open so get there early to get a table.

I came here for a staff meeting. I have seen Izakaya Wa 和 on newspaper ad before but just didn't know it's located in the busy Memorial and Beltway area. The building is kind of quaint. I just don't understand how the parking lot was formed. There is a small fenced parking lot in front of the entrance. In front of that, there are several takeout only spots.Certain days, the big old beer truck parked on the side of building which causing difficulties to maneuver for parking. GPS still shows 2 entrances on Boheme Drive, but there is only one.Food was really delicious. I ordered Salmon Teriyaki Teishoku. It came with a generous amount of fresh spring salad with miso dressing, a mound of steamed rice, 4 slices of salmon and a side of cucumber salad. Presentation was appealing. However, everything on a serving tray took up space on a small square table for four of us.Besides the entrees, we ordered some edamame and karaage chicken pieces to share. There should be salt shaker to season those appetizers. We only found Shichimi Togarashi (a spicy powdered assortment of dried chili peppers and other seasonings). The bottle looked old and greasy. But the spices were still fresh.Overall, I don't mind to come back to try other dishes. I heard the menu changes often. I know dinner and weekends are the busiest. I would come back during lunch for sure.

Solid quality and price especially for the location. Friendly service, usually have Uni and toro and other high end items. Not a full bar but they do have sake, wine, and beer options. I think this is a fun and casual place - not as trendy or pricey as the second wave restaurants like Uchi or Money Cat, but good food for a true sushi lover. The sushi lunch is only $14 die 4 pieces of nigiri and some cut roll. I added the quail egg to the gunkan for an extra $1.50. Pleased!

Arrived with a party of three on a Saturday and had only an option to sit inside or at the sushi bar. This place is small and so I'm not sure if waits are normal. The sushi bar was small but enough to barely fit our meals. Place felt cozy overall.I ordered the tempura bukkake. Menu described their udon as quite chewy, and it wasn't a lie! I'm not sure if I particularly enjoy the style, I felt like my jaw was getting a work out. The tempura was really well done. This was a cold dish and comes with a sauce, but it was a small portion that I guess you are supposed to pour it over the noodles. It did help give flavor but nothing was overpowering. I'd like to come back and try some other dishes. Seems all reasonably priced. The only thing that we didn't enjoy was the service. Our waiter barely checked on us and we had to keep getting someone else to take our order and to check out.

Izakaya Wa in is a cozy spot in Memorial for those craving Japanese cuisine. They offer a variety of sushi set specials and udon dishes that are satisfying, even if it's not the highest quality fish. They're known for having a variety of skewers as well and would be great for some light bites if you're feeling munchy.The interior is clean and down-to-earth and the staff is efficient in serving up your meals. Plus, there's plenty of parking outside, making it convenient to enjoy a decent Japanese meal without breaking the bank!

I gave this restaurant a shot based on people's reviews. I'm left disappointed that Izakaya-Wa didn't meet expectations. Their sashimi was fresh, but their other options (we ordered several different skewers) tasted too similarly sweet and we felt letdown by a lack of good flavor. Overall, Izakaya-Wa is just "average," but not great, compared to other Izakaya places I've been to.

Great sushi and fresh rolls. Service was a little slow, but our waiter told us someone called in, so I understand that things happen. I don't really want to take a star away just for that, so hopefully it doesn't happen often. Our waiter was so sweet and accommodating. Cute place and lots of parking!

I tried the takoyaki, dinner sushi special, rainbow roll, and avocado roll with eel. Everything was delicious! The miso soup was a nice palette refresher. My favorite sushi was the eel and the salmon! The interior of the store is decorated beautiful. You can see the chefs working at the bar area. Our server was very attentive and very welcoming.I heard the lunch special is a good deal here! I will have to come back!
