This is a cozy little sushi spot with UNLIMITED soup! I love going here for a small, light bite. Though it is not the best sushi it is pretty good.Food: There is a self serve soup section where you also get your own utensils and drinks (Water or tea). They have corn soup, red bean soup, and miso soup. CORN SOUP: Creamy, nicely seasoned with pepper. Sweet corn. More substantial than the miso soup.MISO SOUP: Your typical, comforting miso soup. Great to start.RED BEAN DESSERT SOUP: I love ending my meal with this soup. It is sweet and warming. The perfect asian dessert because it's "not too sweet".TEMPURA HAND ROLL: One of my go tos! I love the kewpie mayo because it adds a sweetness. The shrimp tempura inside is crunchy, not greasy, and perfectly balanced with the rice, cucumber, and seaweed.VEGETABLE TEMPURA: This is another one of my favorites. I love how lightly battered it is. It comes with sweet potato and zucchini tempura and a side of tempura sauce that is almost like a light, sweet soy sauce. CRAZY LION ROLL: This is one of their specialty rolls. However, i did not really like this one too much. It was underwhelming in my opinion. The spicy salmon and cucumber inside as nice. They didn't skimp on the salmon! The top seared salmon and mayonnaise was lacking. I think it was a very one flavor type of roll. I would choose a different one next time.BEEF SUKIYAKI: The sukiyaki soup is light, sweet, and good. i would always ask for extra soup, though, because they don't give too much of it. The clear glass noodles are nice and bouncy. They give a good amount of beef and vegetables in the dish.Service: It is all self service. You order at the counter. They do bring the meal out to you though. There is also a 10% cash discount.Ambiance: Nothing fancy, very cozy and home like. Perfect for going with families or friends. Usually busy.

This is a good place to go when you're craving sushi but are on a budget. I ordered the spicy tempura roll, dragon roll, and shaggy roll. All were delicious and I would recommend those if you are a seafood fan, but if you are not there are still plenty of non-seafood options available. I loved the complimentary side bar for unlimited miso, corn, and red bean soups with toppings. The miso soup was my favorite and had me coming back for multiple bowls. This place is majority self service; however, our food was delivered in a fairly quick manner considering how busy they were. They did forget one of my rolls so I had to go to the front to ask about the status of it though. When you enter the restaurant, grab a menu and seat yourself at an available table. It is spacious but tables can fill up quick when it gets super busy. You check off what you would like on the menu then go to the front and place your order.

Iwa Ya is a fantastic sushi restaurant in the Dynasty Plaza. The prices are very good and the quality of their sushi is excellent. When you walk in, you can grab a menu at the entrance for particular items, and once you grab a table, you can walk up to the counter to place your order. You can then grab water and soup from the self-serve station. I got the chirashi, and all of the fish was delicious; the scallop was especially good. Overall, this is a super casual place with impressive quality.

I really enjoy coming here for some delicious sushi. They have soups at the counter while waiting. The reason why I am rating it a 4 is because it's good quality sushi and cheap. However, the actual place could be renovated a little more to look a bit better. The style to order is different as you have to select from a piece of paper and take to the front. I feel like for the price of the food and quality, it should be better service.

This is my GO TO sushi place when I'm craving sushi on a budget. Prices are affordable and still are after inflation. There's a self serve station for your choice of water or hot tea, miso soup or corn soup, and red bean dessert. They have a variety of sashimi/nigiri options, handrolls, rolls, appetizers, and entrees. MY FAVS:-nigiris (salmon, burnt salmon, chopped scallop, squid) -handrolls (spider, tempura shrimp, eel, scallop) -rolls (spider, caterpillar, nemo) -entrees (beef don, eel don, chirashi) The inside is bright and spacious. There's plenty of seating. Service is always consistent! Staff are super friendly, and it's the same people working each time I go. It can get packed depending on the time you go. Despite peak crowds, food comes out in a timely manner. I've never had a bad experience here. You order your food by going to the cashier next to the soup station. Make sure to know what table you're sitting at to tell the cashier. Heads up, it's 10% off if you pay with cash.

Iwa Ya is one of my go to places for great value for good quality sushi in the Bellaire Chinatown area. We usually frequent this restaurant on the weekends, so it's always packed. We try to set up lunch meetings with friends right at opening so we won't have to wait long for seating. There are so many great things about this location:Complimentary corn soup and miso soup and toppings for the soup - self serve stationComplimentary hot tea and water - self serve stationGreat value and prices without compromising on quality You can pay with cash for a discountFast serviceFind your own seating - first come first serveFavorite items: 1. Chirashi bowl - great assortment of sashimi, ratio of rice to sashimi is perfect, and always fresh2. Sushi combos - excellent value, fresh sashimi, and satisfying portion 3. Takoyaki - always comes out hot and freshThe only con is when they run out of seating due to being so popular of a lunch spot and you cannot reserve a table ahead of time.

This authentic and cheap restaurant is the perfect place to get a quick bite. It's more on the casual side and you go up to order what you want and everything else is self-serve at the sides bar. Personally, I'm not a sushi person so that's why I'm thankful to see so many non-seafood options. But my friends who ordered sushi all have great things to say about it. The service and delivery are all quick and efficient. Truly a staple in my life! All of the food are so savory and filling!

The fish quality is good for the price, so I love to get nigiri whenever I eat here. My favorite rolls were the hawaiian volcano and crazy lion. Both had a nice kick. They offer lots of speciality rolls and cooked entree options. There's also self serve miso, corn, and red bean soup. Iwa Ya is great if you want to satisfy your sushi cravings for a good deal. There's plenty of parking in the plaza. Whenever you enter, grab a menu and order sheet then seat yourself at a table. Fill out your sheet then head to the register to make your order & let them know what table you're sitting at.

I Wa Ya is a hidden gem that offers delicious Japanese cuisine. The restaurant is known for its friendly atmosphere, excellent service, cleanliness, and high-quality fresh ingredients. First of all, the restaurant offers complimentary, unlimited self-serve soups. You can enjoy miso soup, corn chowder, and sweet red bean dessert soup during your meal. There are sashimi, sushi rolls, teppanyaki, rice plates and noodles offering. Whether you're a sushi lover or prefer teppanyaki, there's something for everyone. We tried their salmon sashimi, futomaki, and spider rolls and we were very pleased with the food quality. The pork Katsu came out crispy and piping hot, served over the fluffiest rice!! We got their teppanyaki salmon to-go also and that was delicious as well. The prices are reasonable and I would come back just for the unlimited soups!!
