SO DELICIOUS! This place has become one of my top 3 favorite breakfast/brunch spots.Firstly they got bottomless mimosas and thats already such a steal! The food was full of flavor especially the collard greens and the potatoes were light and crispy! The portions are big in my opinion I was not able to finish my portion but that was fine with me bc it just meant delicious leftovers the next day.The service was QUICK and amazing!I do wish the ambiance was a but more lively the dimness of the back room threw me off a bit however everything else made up for it! Definitely will be back 10/10!

We were visiting Durham for my partner's graduate reunion and decided to pick a new spot in town seeing that it has been awhile since we've visited. It's a Southern Thing was a great selection! We first started with the smoked wings that were unbelievably great. Crispy with lots of smoke flavor - would have loved more of the sauce but was nonetheless a great starter. For an entree, I had their jalapeño fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was moist and juicy. I would have liked more spicy to it but I don't think that took away from the great taste. We had a new trainee as a server but she did an excellent job. She was attentive friendly as was certainly getting a handle on things while we were there.

Went for brunch and it was a pretty solid chicken sandwich. The pickles and ranch on top weren't too over the top and the crunch on the chicken was perfect. My only complaint is that the chicken was way too thin, not enough meat but a whole lot of crispy. Hash browns were fine, but definitely wish I got the grits. My friends said they were really cheesy! All in all a good brunch spot that has bottomless mimosas on Sunday

The texture of the meatloaf was off putting. I know it has bacon and ground beef but it just was not my cup of tea. The brussel sprouts were the best thing in the plate minus the bacon in them which was extremely salty. The potatoes were salty as well and extremely thick. Definitely different than southern cuisine I have encountered before. Would not recommend trying this meal but the seasonal drink was good.

Catering was amazing! They just started catering this place and we just happen to be the first customers. We had a work birthday and they were on top of things with questions and orders! Super friendly when they delivered (showed up early, which we loved) and even helped lay it out. The food was phenomenal. We opted for the "Boxed Lunches" Key Lime Pie and Banana Pudding for dessert. Just as ordered and even supplied all the utensils needed. Definitely recommend doing this! We will be returning customers!

My partner and I visited on a Friday evening after hearing great things about the food here. It was pretty crowded, but we luckily had a reservation. The ambiance is very cozy, exciting, and rustic. I ordered the jalapeño brined chicken sandwich which came with a side of fries. The chicken had great texture and was super crunchy! I was worried about the jalapeño being too spicy, but it was the perfect level. The fries were also very delicious. We also ordered the banana pudding for dessert and it was delicious - just sweet enough and the texture was not overly soggy. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely return!

Nice ambience, friendly service, yummy comfort food, and a great selection of beer and cocktails. They were even able to accommodate a large group without reservation along the bar.

The restaurant interior is cool. Large space with lots of seating and some interesting decor to look at. The also have outdoor seating available. The biscuits and jam appetizer was actually my favorite thing we got! The biscuits were great and the jam was blackberry and I loved it. The mimosas were pretty strong and only cost $6 on a weekday. Staff were nice and checked on us regularly but not too often to be annoying. For my entrée, I got the cajun salmon cake bene. The potatoes that come with it were good. The salmon was pretty bland. I didn't taste any cajun flavors. The eggs were cooked just right but also didn't have any extra flavor.

My brother in law had been talking up It's a Southern Thing for a while. We all went out to dinner while visiting Durham and finally gave them a try.I liked the causal vibe and their unique take on southern classics.I ordered the chicken n' biscuits and thoroughly enjoyed it. The buttermilk biscuit "croutons" on top were absolutely delicious! The creamy chicken pot pie filling was so warm, satisfying and filling. Hubby loved it, too.He ordered the country hamburger steak plate. A straight forward, hearty dish. Mashed potatoes were flavorful, topped with savory and yummy gravy. The green beans were cooked perfectly.I also really liked their local craft beer menu!

I had a fantastic time at this brunch spot! Located in the corner of downtown Durham, it was in an area that was not too busy but still close enough to walk to the rest of downtown Durham. This place stood out to me because it is one of the few places I have found in the area that has bottomless mimosas! They have amazing staff that make rounds with a pitcher to refill your glass. It is a premixed mimosa so you do not have the option to tailor the champagne to OJ ratio (if that is something you are specific about). I ordered my go-to eggs Benedict entree and I thought it was pretty good! The service was decent considering how busy the restaurant could get. Overall, the thing that stood out to me the most about this place is the bottomless mimosas. I got the impression that most people come here for the mimosas (which is very valid). I can see myself coming back here for another weekend brunch!
