Placed an order for a gyro plate which came with two sides - I chose rice and fries. The total ended up being around $18. The order took about 15 minutes to prep and when I got it, it was a good portion. The gyms were covered in a yogurt cucumber sauce which I didn't know came on it. The rice was a little oily - not sure if it was from the rice or the gyros. I think my favorite item from Hummus cafe were the fries - they were perfectly salty and crispy. Overall Hummus cafe food was probably a 3.5/5. Service was nothing special and overall just an okay shop considering everything.

Their shawarma sandwiches are easily the best I've ever had. I could literally eat it every day for the rest of my life. I love the lamb schwarma and my wife loves the chicken schwarma. We've also had the schwarma salads which are delicious.

I've been very slowly and unintentionally chewing my way through The Stranger's 15 Best Restaurants in Seattle (https://www.thestranger.com/food-and-drink/2023/07/19/79083469/the-15-best-restaurants-in-the-seattle-area-2023). Slowly: it's August and I've been to 5 of the 15 (2 of which I'd been to prior to seeing this list); unintentionally: mostly I go to one of these places when I'm already planning to be in the neighborhood (meaning I probably won't ever make it to a few). Now, I love the irreverent writing style on display at The Stranger, and really enjoyed the author's turn of phrase. Her Top 15, though, I've found wanting - until I came to Hummus Cafe.Wife and I went to the salmon run at the Ballard Locks. As we were getting ready to go, she said she was hungry. I've wanted to try the Hummus Cafe since seeing it on this list, and Greenwood was on our way. She ordered a falafel & eggplant sandwich; I ordered lamb shawerma plate. My wife summed it up, "I'd come back here again." I was pleasantly surprised that they served actual lamb rather than the highly-processed solidified meat-like slurry found at so many Mediterranean places (they offer that here, too, but it wasn't on my plate). We shared a baklava at the end. It was drier than I'm used to which is normally a death sentence for me. It wasn't slathered with syrup the way I like it (I have a terrible sweet tooth); it was very buttery and flavorful - I'm also a major fan of "buttery". Different, tasty. The author of the Top 15 list seeks to balance delicious food at reasonable prices. This food is good; "reasonable" is up to the diner. 1 item and a drink each (plus 1 baklava), our bill was $50. Hummus Cafe is a gem hidden in plain sight - smack on the corner of 85th and Greenwood. We'll be back.

Service was really really bad! The women was very rude! Not only was she rude but she ripped us off charging a custom item fee, a service fee as well as taking a tip! What does this place think they are doing?!

I ordered the chicken shawarma combo plate with salad and hummus as my sides. It was ready in ten minutes and tasty! The only downside is that the pita was a bit dry. I would say this is a solid takeout spot if you're in the Greenwood neighborhood.

Since this covid thing started, our family has tried to dedicate one night to take out, in support of local businesses. We have our favorites, our rotation, but new to our set is this joint. It's good food, and we should have had this in our catalogue of places a long time ago. That being said, it's now on our rotation. So what makes this place, one of our regular takeout places? it's all about the quality of the food, and the value. Let's just say, the food is fresh, it tastes like someone who cared made it, from scratch. I got a gyro salad, and the vegetables were fresh, and lush. The meat tasted like it was just taken off the spit, and the dressing was just right. I mean, really tasty. We have a long way to go, to taste everything, but for now, this place is now on our to-go list, and we will be making an effort to come here more often.

I had high hopes for this place, but they were dashed. It's a sweet little shop that appears to be run by a husband and wife team in a great location. I know they've been there for a long time - I wonder if the food used to be really good? Their food seemed like a 40% version of what it could be. Rather than the delicate combination of flavors for which Middle Eastern food is known, they bash you over the head with an uninspired, thrown-together version you might expect from a young person just learning to cook. It seems their ingredients are the least expensive version of barely passable. We ordered a few things. First was the lamb schwarma salad. The lamb was oily, fatty and devoid of much flavor other than overpowering garlic and the gaminess that lamb naturally brings. Perhaps the intense garlic was from the sauce, I'm not sure. It also is schwarma-like rather than actual schwarma. While they have 2 of the traditional upright schwarma grilling machines, one was out of use and the other had gyro meat sitting on it, but it wasn't on (made me suspicious of the gyro too)The side of Hummus and Pita we ordered looked OK. It came with about a 1/4" puddle of unpleasant and strong tasting olive oil on top. I was glad to get a full olive in the middle and 2 thin slices of cucumber. Not sure how the hummus itself tasted because the oil on top was overpowering and unpleasant. The pita that came with the hummus and on which the chicken sandwich were served was fine. Again, it was the passable sort that comes from large scale food distribution companies. The chicken was the best protein. It had nice flavor and good texture, but was very dry - I wanted to improve it by adding hummus to the sandwich, but was put off by the olive oil. The chicken tasted like it was cooked much earlier in the day and just reheated as needed - perhaps this batch had been reheated multiple times already. The best part of the meal were the french fries, which were delightfully crisp on the outside and not overdone. Find another place for your Middle Eastern food fix unless this one is just too convenient and you have no idea how delicious this type of food can be. You certainly shouldn't go there thinking you'll be getting good service, good value or reasonable prices.

There's a reason I have been eating at Hummus Cafe for over a decade. It is delicious! It's a true mom & pop as it's owned by a husband and wife duo. They always remember me, and have watched me grow up over the years from high school to college and now adulthood, always greeting me with a smile. My favorite food here is a shawarma sandwich with lamb, but everything on the menu is good. You can tell it's made with love! And make sure to try the housemade limeade and baklava!
