This is a fantastic spot for HK food! We came in during lunchtime on Friday- warning, the restaurant is popular so it gets packed and the parking lot in the area is pretty limited. We ordered the Hong Kong Style Lemon Tea, Curry Beef Brisket Chow Fun, Chicken Wing with Pepper and Scallion, and French Toast. The drink is citrusy and not too sweet which I personally like. The chicken wings were super juicy and flavorful- this is a must! As for the HK style french toast, this definitely satisfied my sweet tooth and I'd come back just to eat this. As for the Curry Beef Brisket Chow Fun, the noodles were a little mushy and stuck together but the sauce was flavorful and the beef was very tender and flavorful. Overall, I'd give this spot a 4.5/5 for the food! Service was standard and the interior was pretty spacious (but as I mentioned before, it gets pretty busy inside since this is a popular spot)! I can't wait to visit again and try more dishes.

Wanted dessert that won't hurt me afterwards... just wanted the french toast and came out with extra chrysanthemum tea to wash it down. House of Bowls is a Houston staple since college. Cheap and really great food. The decor has changed a teeny bit since college days but still the same vibe and atmosphere. They have since started accepting credit card as payment!

Apart from both coasts and Canada (#1), Hong Kong style cafes aren't really much of a thing in any part of the country. Houston is fortunate to have at least a few dedicated places that fit the bill, but House of Bowls might be the most legit of them all. Known as 金大碗 ("Golden Big Bowl") to the locals, they have become one of the neighborhood's most frequented establishments where the food and service shine brightest. On their busiest days, parking can be a challenge. Sandwiched in a small'ish lot shared with several other popular businesses, House of Bowls doesn't have the luxury of parking spaces that the other neighboring plazas can offer, despite being the most spacious business in the building. They have a number of dedicated large tables and have a steady flow of patrons doing takeout or dining in. It's mainly a local crowd, which is always super promising. The menu for the place is extensive, with many of the dishes that are definitely cha chaan tang (茶餐廳) appropriate. The HK-style milk tea and lemon teas are near perfection and I am especially impressed with their condensed milk, peanut butter western toast (連奶花生醬西多士) and especially love that it's floating in syrup and melted butter. If anything, I wish it were larger but I guess that's as HK as it gets (#2).They offer a lot of the sai chaan (西餐) classics that include macaroni, baked rice, instant noodles, congee, egg tarts, and even chicken wings. The latter is one of their best sellers, with my favorite being their garlic salt and pepper wings. I don't even really love wings much but I am tearing it up each time I'm there.Their other super popular dishes are the house spaghetti, which is on the sweeter side and comes with a mosh of meats with a fried egg on top. Equally indulgent is their beef chow fun (乾炒牛河) but the added soft egg and shrimp is a real treat. The seafood here is good overall and it's an ideal environment for plate sharing and family style. If there was a downside to anything, it's the prices. Some of their shrimp/fish dishes are $20 each, even if the majority of the dish is noodle. The bright side is that their service is one of my favorite aspects of the experience. Most of the staff is super multilingual, speaking Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and English with customers. I've been very impressed with all of them and their smile-first, friendly attitudes.I do think this is one of the best spots in all of Bellaire Chinatown. Some folks might not find the HK-fare-laden menu all that impressive, but all things considered, I think this is the best place for it in H-town.__________(#1) And obviously, Hong Kong.(#2) Portions are always smaller in the motherland.

I came back for another visit and got the beef chow fun to-go and the service was phenomenal. The portion was a good size like when I dined in as well as being hot and delicious. I called in and was told the food would be ready in 5 minutes, which was so quick compared to other places I've ordered from. When I went in, the restaurant did not look that busy so that may have been why but regardless I appreciated how quick everything was.

The food is always delicious and the service is excellent. It can get a bit loud sometime but that's because there are always busy.

A very authentic Cantonese dining experience! It's pretty loud inside and plenty of seating, so it feels very lively inside. The food was a nice reminder of home cooking and was so flavorful! We thought we'd have extras to take home but surprisingly we polished off everything. The waitstaff is friendly and fast-paced, and the kitchen prepared all the dishes quite efficiently. The only thing I'd say was not as good was the stir fry noodle dish (top bowl in the photo), it tasted like it was a little too burnt, and wasn't as tasty as it could have been.

Little corner restaurant in Bellaire, looks quiet, walk in and it's full of people. Although it was busy the staff was friendly and patient enough to answer questions we had about different food on menu. As we stood in the to go section, near the kitchen, every item the waiters brought out looked delicious. We ended up with 3 items and it was all full of yummy flavor. They have a large menu and variety of items, so we'll definitely be back to try more dishes!

I came to House of Bowls because Mein is closed on Mondays. I really wanted some gourmet noodles. Since so many foodie friends raving about this restaurant. I had to come to check out myself. When I walked in, there was another customer sitting by the entrance. I was placed next to his table. There dining area took double shop spaces. Everything look dated and table had a layer of grease. I could tell no one cared to hide the clutter behind the counter and AV area. Overall, it was not pleasant for the sight. I ordered Curry Beef Chowfun 咖哩牛肉炒河. The noodles were flavorful and soft to eat. But the sauce had chili paste mixed in. I never had curry with hot sauce before. I constantly spitting out the chili pepper seeds and skins. Beef was tender but this dish was drenched in oil. So greasy and my tummy can't take that much oil. I would ask the kitchen to skip adding MSG, if I come back.

It's been a while since I've had Cantonese food, especially in Texas. House of bowls provided some standard food for a pre Thanksgiving dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed the noodles, I think we got beef and fish. Both of which were really tasty. It's a very much a traditional Asian spot, with its random atmosphere and service. No one is sugar coating here, you're going to get an upfront interaction.

This will be an interesting experience and review I had one night at House Bowls. For a few years now I have been making my trips to House of Bowls. But not as much as this year. Maybe I am addicted to it.I decided one night of where to eat by myself and after much contemplating, House Bowls was the spot.I arrive some time before 9:00 pm and was seated. But the one phrase the waitress told me would change my night. "We are closing at 9:30 and the kitchen is doing last call." Internally I was battling the thought of, "should I leave or can I eat within 30 min?" I took on the challenge for the nightI ordered all these: Ovaltine, macaroni soup with ham, house special spaghetti, and a Hong Kong style French toast with peanut butter & condensed milkWould I say this is great to share since it was family style? Yes. Is it the best HK style French toast I know? Yup. But the main question:Did you finish all of this within 30 min before closing time? Absolutely. But it did not come without a cost. A moment I will never forget for the fastest complete meal I ever ate in my life. Overall, I would definitely recommend House of Bowls. It is one of the very few Cha chaan teng style cuisines I know in the city. I have also had the HK coffee milk tea and beef chow fun which are great. What did I learn? The food is great and so is the price The restaurant closes at 9:30I will never EVER do that again but will I come backWithout hesitation I am there for more.
