Hickory Pit BBQ

Took food to go. The ribs were delicious. Also had the jalapeño sausage. Usually jalapeño sausage has cheese and this one did not and yet it was still super moist. I really liked the barbecues sauce because it wasn't sweet and was just flavorful. We did not try the sides but they were not that entertaining looking. They were super nice serving us too!Finally the pecan pie filling was delicious but the crust was a bit hard.

After a quick mention from a co-worker down the street for a lunch spot, decided to drive over and give them a try. I have to say that you do get a good amount of food for the price, but that's literally the only positive of the restaurant. Sorry, but nothing on my place was worth any good mention and the brisket was very dry which is a HUGE no-go for me no matter where I go.

I have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. It's an amazing family owned business with great food good service and lots of friendly faces. When you first walk in, you can recognize it's not a big place. But you can also see how many of the tables are full at lunchtime and dinner time. This is a staple for the city of Bellaire. they have catered many events for me as well. Absolutely would highly recommend. The atmosphere is amazing as well.

I get my family's Turkey smoked here often. They do a great job and it's affordable. Very nice way to treat everyone while taking the stress off of me for getting meat right for hosting the holidays.

I've been passing by this place for about 5+ years now, and today I was driving past it during lunch and thought I would pop in and give it a try. Being almost noon, I should have recognized there was no one in line at what is typically a very busy time for good BBQ joints.I got the two meat plate with two sides - brisket, jalapeno sausage, pinto beans, and slaw. The brisket had no flavor and was tough - no hint of smoke for a place with "hickory" in their name and no bark: it was as if someone got some brisket and popped it in an oven for a while. The jalapeno sausage was fairly low quality, and you could seriously go to the grocery store and buy any sausage link and cook up something better on your backyard grill. The beans had a good flavor but the slaw was fairly bland.I did get some BBQ sauce on the side and tried to use it to at least give some flavor to the meats but it had a strange taste, also - it seemed to be heavy with sage spices with a little bit of oregano.There are way too many good to outstanding - and even "okay" tasting - BBQ places in the Houston area. I would give this place a pass and go somewhere else.

I've been living near Bellaire, TX for around 2 years now and I pass the this bbq spot pretty often. I've always thought about trying but never did until around a month ago. Way better than I ever expected! I recently visited for the second time and I ordered the Fancy Stuffed Potato. Everything from the potato and ingredients within the potato were very succulent! The beef was cooked well and seasoned perfectly. I also ordered the green beans and peach cobbler on the side. The peach cobbler was good despite what I initially assumed. The times that I have been to this bbq spot it's always pretty empty, but I've only gone during the late evening, so I'm not sure of the traffic they may get earlier in the day. However, I definitely plan to eat here again!

My wife picked up some "Q and brouught it home. The brisket was kinda dry and chewy, 2 stars. The sausage was 4 stars, nice taste and the casing had just a little snap. The Pork ribs were 5 stars, nice flavor and the meat was tender. The fried okra was good and the french fries were meh.

The brisket was moist but lacked flavor.The pork ribs were very flavorful but a little on the tough side for me.I would probably give them another shot.

Mario has been cooking excellent BBQ for the Bellaire neighborhood for decades. His smoking technique is amazing and his homemade BBQ sauce is to die for. Try the ribs, the beans and the sausage. My personal favorite is the loaded baked potato. Give Hickory Pit a try - you will not regret it!
