Harris County Smokehouse

I've checked out the reviews and weighed them to my personal experiences. Personally, Harris County Smokehouse deserves a better score, in my opinion. I truly love BBQ and always up for a great country breakfast which they feature both. The rustic setting adds to the country charm, if you're into that. I'm usually there with a large party (greater than six) and the service is great, never a long wait for food. Ok the BBQ is good, not great, but the breakfast keeps me going back over and over. The portions are large enough to satisfy the biggest appetites regardless of your choice. I've tried almost half of what they offer for breakfast but keep repeating the chicken fried steak offered in small and large sizes. They provide hot complementary yeast rolls that seemingly melt as you bite into them. I also suggest adding the smoked sausage to your breakfast order, great stuff.

Nice size place. Good location for a large family or friends gathering. They have several long bench tables outside & a separate inside room off the main dining space for a more personal/secluded area (not private) if you have a group.Country music plays loud enough that you are definitely aware of it but you can still tune it out & focus on the table conversation. They have a self serve bar where you can get onions, jalapeño, pico, lemons, syrup, etc. There are also yeast rolls. Make sure to grab one, they're delicious.When you get in line, if you are ordering breakfast you don't get a tray. Someone will take your order & the food is made fresh and brought to the table. lf you are ordering bbq, you grab a tray and the food is already made so you grab a tray & pick your items, cafeteria style. French toast - hint of cinnamon. Soft. (maybe borderline too soft for some) but they were good. I'd get them again. Waffle - fluffy, Tasty. I love to compare pancakes, french toast & waffles at my brunch spots. Waffles were good but I'd give edge to French toast this time. Grits- I'm not a big grit person so they need to be real good to get my attention. These tasted like they were made with water & didn't have a lot of taste. After adding some salt & butter, they were still a" pass" for me. Veggie omlette- nice size, ample amount of veggies & tasty. Home fries - crispy, good.Spicy sausage - note, it's served room temperature, not warm. We use this spot as a go-to place when my extended family of 13-15 people like to gather for breakfast, impromptu, without reservations. Easy seating. Solid food for this category of restaurant.

My experience was during the breakfast time, which i had no idea was available from them. But let me tell you wow! Just look at the portion! HUGE!!! It's so delicious! Friendly faces and staff very clean. Service is quick awesome interior lots of hunting memorabilia. I haven't had their BBQ so far I've only tried their breakfast. When i try the BBQ i plan to write a separate review for that experience.

All doors were locked when I showed up to eat. Door said they closed at 9pm! So disappointed I normally love Harris county smoke house. Apparently their service here sucks. Don't have a closing time if you arnt gonna follow it

I stopped by Harris County Smokehouse today for a spud since Cooper's is now closed, and I was met with disappointment. The potato was straight up gross. There isn't one piece of it specifically that made it bad, but it was just all around not tasty. The beef lacked flavor and was tough. The sour cream and cheese were only placed on one side of the potato, leading me to take whole bites of just sour cream. It was a waste of $20 and my time. I will not be back.

We've been going to the HCS for a couple of years now and love their BBQ. Only recently in the last year we have ordered breakfast, nice thick slices of bacon and typical breakfast fare. I had the omelette which was excellent

I am visiting from Seattle and my friend had some leftover BBQ from Harris County Smokehouse, in the refrigerator. It was ribs, potato salad & baked beans. As a native Texan, good bbq can be enjoyed both hot and cold. The ribs, beans & potato salad were really good. So, for dinner, I decided on Harris County Smokehouse. The price is reasonable for the amount of food you get, however, the food was a HUGE disappointment. The 'spicy' rice was not only not spicy it was bland. The fried okra was not completely cooked. Some pieces were still cold. The fried mushrooms were soggy & bland, i mean NO FLAVOR. The spicy sausage was not spicy but was very flavorful. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender, but bland. There was no flavor whatsoever, not even salt. In addition, there was only bbq sauce and ranch dressing. There was no onions, no jalapeño peppers, no bread. Everyone is Texas knows, if nothing else, onions and bread are required. Such a huge disappointment. So much for wanting authentic Texas BBQ.

Food was better than expected. Banana pudding was out of this world. Great place to celebrate the 4th of July. Great family place. Good food, clean, good service.

Well hell, I wish I would have visited sooner!!! Learned they are closing the doors in less than 1 week. Some of ya'll wishing for them to get shut down is ridiculous.Cafeteria-style kitchen with self-service dining room.I planned on stopping in to grab some sides to go with a brisket I smoked. When the personnel alerted me to the business closing, I decided to up my order. Got a 3 meat plate Brisket, Spicy Sausage, Ribs +2 sides. - BBQ sauce was warm and delicious! - Fresh hand made soft and flaky rolls - Pico, Pickles, Jalapeno, Onions, BOLIED PEA-NUTS!!!! - Ribs were well prepared, well cut, and delicious. - a hint of brown sugar in a finishing stage of the cook was a nice surprise and added to the flavor profile. - Spicy sausage was cut nice and thin ~3/8 inch slices and pared well with the BBQ sauce. - Brisket had a nice smoke ring, and the balance of lean and most was good. - I ate a few pieces with no sauce, was not as soft as I'd prefer, but was very good. Brisket with the sauce, WOW!! that sauce again added another level of flavor enhancement. BBQ Sauce here at HCS is worthy of being bottled IMO.

Smoked turkey potato was incredible....so large and full of delicious smoked turkey, cheese, and bacon bits. The rolls and corn bread muffins tasted like homemade. The only down side was the barbecue sauce...it was kinda of vinegary and thin and the soda machine had a funny aftertaste. It does merit a return visit....
