The bar. The specialty drinks and shots were sweet and flavorful.

Great college bar with awesome traditions and vibe. A must sop when out and about on a night in Tar Heel Country. Try a PickleBack shot and start your own UNC tradition! Love this place that is hidden but not definitely not unknown

Wow. I mean if you want to get LIT. Like Long Island Tea LIT, go to Goodfellows. And no I'm not joking, they literally have a Long Island Tea section of their bar. I think I drank like 1/4th of mine and gave up hope of not having a hangover the next day. The line to get in can be kind of long because it's a popular spot, but generally the wait goes by quickly. There's a narrow staircase that goes downstairs to the bar, which is a large room complete with tables and a dance floor. It can get pretty loud so I wouldn't advice for a quiet drink with a date or anything, but otherwise it's a great spot for friends on the town. My favorite part of GF's is the pickleback challenge. If you order a certain amount of picklebacks (it's A LOT - probably will take you a few years unless you're an alcoholic but hey no judgment). You get a plaque or something for completing the challenge. Definitely unique and original.

While in Chapel Hill to attend a local drag show, my friend wanted to treat me out to my first LIT at her favorite college bar, Goodfellows. The place itself is literally a basement. We got there right around 9, which meant we lucked out on the line. But as we were heading back to my car around midnight, not only was the place PACKED, but there was now a huge line of patrons (most likely UNC-Chapel HIll students?) snaking out the door and down the street. Per my friend's recommendation, I asked for a mango LIT, and thought it was so tasty! (Apparently, the strawberry LIT is also a huge hit.) I'm not a drinker, but I also learned that Goodfellows does pickleback shots (shot of whiskey with a shot of pickle juice). The ambiance was chill, though I can't imagine having much fun when Goodfellows approaches peak hours (especially on a Thursday or Saturday). But all in all, just like my friend has a warm nostalgia for Goodfellows, I've begun to develop an appreciation for the bar.

While on my tour of the Chapel Hill bar scene we were brought down some stairs into Goodfellows. Reminds me a lot of a few different college bars I've been to in my youngers years. Not much else to say the atmosphere is divey the drink prices are reasonable and everyone in our group had a lot of fun. We can't stay out as late as the college kids can anymore so we didn't get to see what it is like around the end of the night. I'm guessing it starts to devolve into a mess but hey that's part of the fun of college right?!

This place can kind of be hit or miss. Depends on what night you're going. One day it can be dead as a rock, the next it's a line around the block. I enjoy when they have karaoke and they have a little stage you can dance around on. I also like that they have board games if you don't feel like laying it all out on the dance floor. They generally have good drink specials as well and I love their fruity shooters!

I like this place, I do. But I went here on a Friday night and the bouncer was exceptionally rude and wouldn't let us in. But he would let in a group of so called "regulars". We were good people ready to spend money, but he denied us for "regulars". I would only recommend this place on half night off night. There are much better places on a Friday night in Chapel Hill. TLDR: rude bouncer, picked favorites when letting people in.

Typical College town bar (a good thing). No food. Just drinks and a rather respectable offering of draft beers. All day specials, so early or late, there's a good choice of specials. As one of the more lively places on a Thursday at 1am, this visit found a work colleague & I strolling in for a couple beers. It was busy, but no prob finding a couple spaces at the barside. Music was good and friendly barkeeps keeping the glasses tended.Darker lit, music on pretty loud, colored lights dancing on the walls/ceiling and a decent sized crowd.Reading the reviews, there seems to be an ongoing issue whether this place is a "Dive Bar" or not as if that makes it something specia or something to be shunnedl. Well, by virtue of my experience (and age) that is about double of anyone here, I'd say it is not a 'Dive' bar. The bar is too clean and frankly the people are too clean. It does help that it only serves alcohol & very salty popcorn for 'dinner'.I'd call it a 'watering hole'. It is a few levels lower than a bar, but well above Dive Bar status.Whatever folks like call the place, it's worth appreciating for just the simplicity, the great beer drafts and that really good cajun-salted popcorn.

This place is small, but it never got super crowded when I was there, though there are many possible reasons. 1) I went in the middle of the week 2) I went at a time when practically everyone was on winter break 3) the place just never gets super crowded. In any case, I went on karaoke night (Wednesdays) and had an excellent time. No cover. Great selection of music, but it takes FOREVER for your requested song to pop up. You can definitely tell who the regulars are. Plenty of room for dancing, but really, everyone just sings along to whatever song is playing. Curious to know what it's like on a busy night like Thursdays/Fridays/Saturdays.

Great bar. Try the LIT. They have trivia and karaoke. Service is great. The old bay on the popcorn is great
