Giuseppe & Sons offers an impressive menu that made it challenging for us to choose, given the enticing variety of options. Every dish we selected exceeded our expectations, showcasing the kitchen's commitment to quality and flavor. The restaurant itself is a large, underground space that evokes a sense of stepping back in time, creating a unique and memorable atmosphere. The service was exemplary, with attentive staff who took note of every detail, from our names to our specific food preferences, ensuring a personalized dining experience. Additionally, the bartenders demonstrated their expertise by crafting excellent drinks that complemented the meal perfectly.Overall, Giuseppe & Sons provides a dining experience that is both nostalgic and refined, with exceptional food, service, and ambiance.

I have been to Giuseppe and Sons a handful of times and have always enjoyed it. As other reviews have mentioned, the vodka rigatoni is absolutely incredible and cannot be missed. The only dish I'd say to proceed with caution for is the truffle tagliatelle, which is just a cheese pasta with some truffle flakes on top--I was mistaken in thinking it would have actual mushrooms in it. Also it tastes a lot of the sherry they dump into the cheese wheel, and the cheese is pretty sharp, so if that isn't your preference I wouldn't order this dish. Overall this restaurant is a great spot for any occasion be it happy hour, date night, or a birthday dinner.

I came for a happy hour at Giuseppe & Sons in Philadelphia, and I must say, it exceeded all of my expectations. The atmosphere was lively and inviting, with a bustling crowd and a warm, welcoming vibe. The food offerings during happy hour were equally impressive. The small plates and appetizers were perfect for sharing, with a range of options to suit every palate. The shrimp scampi and Caesar salad were standout dishes, cooked to perfection and full of flavor. Outside of the happy hour we had to try the table side fresh buffalo mozzarella being a cheese monger it's a must try. I highly recommend this experience. The service at Giuseppe & Sons was exceptional.Upon entry there is a small hallway with framed pictures somewhat deceiving and you think the restaurant is going to be small walking through this hall, it's huge and the attention detail with the interior decorating is just stunning the bathroom is decorated so beautiful and I absolutely love the sink. The decor is like a Victorian speak easy meets Italian mobster 1920's feel.Overall, I highly recommend Giuseppe & Sons for their happy hour offerings. The combination of delicious food, expertly crafted drinks, and welcoming atmosphere make it a must-visit for anyone looking for a fun and flavorful happy hour in Philadelphia. I will definitely be returning to Giuseppe & Sons for more happy hour gatherings in the future. The attention to detail is impeccable to say the least.Looking forward to trying the chefs tasting menu. CAESAR SALAD | $6romaine, parmigiano, breadcrumbs. I am definitely a Caesar snob and this is one of the best Caesar salads. Its harmonious blend of flavors and textures make it a delicious choice for any meal. The crispness of the romaine lettuce provides a refreshing crunch, while the salty and nutty flavor of the fresh parmigiana cheese adds depth to the salad. The croutons, add a delightful crunch and contrast to the crisp lettuce. The creamy Caesar dressing, ties everything together with its rich and tangy flavor. Rating: 5/5SHRIMP SCAMPI $8garlic, chili, breadcrumbFeatures succulent shrimp cooked in a flavorful sauce made from garlic, chili, and breadcrumbs. The garlic adds a robust and savory note to the dish, while the chili provides a subtle kick of heat that enhances the overall flavor profile. The breadcrumbs add a delightful crunch and texture to the dish, creating a contrast to the tender shrimp. Giuseppe Shrimp Scampi is sure to leave a lasting impression on your taste buds.Rating: 5/5HAND PULLED MOZZARELLA $16extra virgin olive oil, black pepperThe table side hand pulled mozzarella at this restaurant is absolutely delicious. The mozzarella is incredibly fresh and creamy, and the fact that it is hand pulled right in front of you adds a special touch. The extra virgin olive oil and black pepper complement the mozzarella perfectly, adding a nice depth of flavor. This dish is a must-try for any cheese lover. Highly recommended.Rating: 5/5FRIED CALAMARI $7marinara, pepperoncinoThe fried calamari at this restaurant is a real treat. The calamari is perfectly cooked - crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The marinara sauce adds a nice tangy flavor, while the pepperoncino adds a bit of heat. The combination of flavors and textures in this dish is fantastic. It's a great appetizer to share or enjoy on your own. Highly recommend giving it a try.Rating: 3/5 - due to portion size I would probably not order again.MUSSELS GIUSEPPE $6tomato, white wine, basilThe combination of tomato, white wine, and basil created a flavorful and aromatic broth which was great paired with the garlic bread.Rating: 3/5 I didn't care for the actual mussels the broth was pretty delicious.

It was definitely an experience, but in my opinion a bit expensive for what it was. I ordered the filet mignon, and although it was juicy and tender, it lacked flavor. The Mac and cheese, was really good. Not sure I will return.

Came here for a friend's birthday and the service was spectacular! This restaurant is upscale and has a nice vibe to it. It's dark, warm, cozy. I loved everything about it! I ordered the truffle pasta and they served it in front of me with the Parmesan cheese barrel.

I usually don't leave a review after visiting a restaurant once but the disappointment with the dinner tonight...I just had to leave a review. We came here for Father's Day dinner. We were so excited to try their table side mozzarella and the fresh made pasta. We came bit early for our reservation but got sat right away. Everyone was very friendly and the service was great. But when it gets to the food...it was overcooked and flavorless. We ordered multiple dishes and I am going to comment on few. -table side mozzarella: awesome presentation, tasteless mozzarella. The best thing from this dish was the tomatoes. - Sunday Gravy: over cooked meatball and sausage that disintegrate in your mouth. Dried up pasta that didn't taste fresh. Over cooked pork that it was super dry. - Chicken Scarpariello: we were confused what type of cuisine this was supposed to be and the chicken...very very very dry chicken - spaghetti with clams: stay away from this dish. It tasted like the weird smell of the staircase of the restaurant Even though all the food lacked flavor, I could not stop drinking the water. I was so dehydrated from the food. I hope today was just an off day but we were very disappointed with the experience today. To top it off, every single stall except one in the women's restroom didn't have toilet paper and only one soap dispenser was filled with soap

I came during restaurant week and it's a lot of food at most places. It was so much food here. I had to take probably 70% of it home but it was worth it. The antipasti salad and whipped ricotta Were delicious.

To be fair, this was probably a 3.5 star visit overall but I can't give a half star and rounding up in this case would be disingenuous. The food was great, 4 stars for sure for my visit. The service issues were the low point and bordered between 2-3 stars. On a good night if food and service were in sync, this place would be a solid 4 star pick. The ambiance and vibe are certainly cool. It is in the basement of an older urban building with a darkened interior, perimeter seating and a sunken central dining area behind a long bar. It really felt like a hidden speakeasy on a cruise ship and would make a nice setting for a date night meal. There is really no easy parking at the place so find a garage, pay the fee and walk. The food was stellar and some items approached outstanding in both taste and value. The portions are large and the crunchy calamari starter with the occasional pickled pepper thrown in was definitely a hit. They had a pasta special made in a Parmesan cheese wheel that ends up very much like Cacio e Pepe w/shaved black truffle that was fantastic and undervalued at $25 given the ingredients. Definitely recommended if that flavor profile is in your area of interest. We also ordered the Orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe, the Sunday Gravy pasta, and the Linguine fra Diavolo which had no complaints from anyone in my party. After all that great food talk, here were the service issues. Our server was very polite and professional but I got the sense the area he was covering was understaffed. We had many pregnant pauses where we could not find for long periods so placing an order or asking for our check were not easy. Once found, he was great so it was not him. I think he was simply MIA because he was stretched so thin covering the place. We noted that there were non-server runners coming with food out of the kitchen to tables and without the server present to direct them, they brought wrong food to our table 3 times when it was supposed to go to other nearby tables. On the 3rd time, it was odd because they brought me what looked like the dish I ordered but no other dishes from my party arrived. It sat in front of me awkwardly for about 10 minutes (I did not want to start eating before the rest of my table had their food) before one of the runners came and told me that while it was the correct dish, it had been customized for another diner so they took it from me. It was unclear what they did with it (hopefully they did not give it to the other diner since it was sitting with me for 10 min). Our table then sat for another 20 min without food and during that time, no one checked in with us to let us know if there was a problem or to apologize for the error. After all of this, our correct order did finally arrive and the food was great so no complaint on the kitchen efforts. But a server or manager check-in or apology during this time would have been a welcome acknowledgment of the service problems that were occurring. In the end, my group had a very tasty meal and all agreed that they would love to return for the food. So I can recommend this spot for a tasty meal and I am hoping that this visit was out of character for them. The service lapses were the part of the meal that left a bad taste in our mouths.

Went here for happy hour last night after hearing good reviews about this place. First off the ambiance and setting inside is very romantic and rustic. You feel at home. The bartender was extremely friendly and provided above excellent service. I've been to many Italian restaurants in the south jersey Philly area and this has to be at the top of the list. The meatballs tasted at home, and the sauce had excellent flavor. All the food was beyond amazing and was some of the best Italian food I've ever had. I highly recommend coming here for happy hour or a nice dinner. You will not be disappointed.

We had a great dining experience at Giuseppe and Sons in Philadelphia, a delightful Italian eatery that beautifully combines classic flavors with modern flair. We kicked off the evening with two cocktails that set the tone for the night. I chose the *Take You Thyme*, a refreshing blend of gin, thyme, and citrus that offered a lovely herbal note, perfectly complemented by a twist of lemon. My husband opted for the *La Regina*, a vibrant mixture of vodka, elderflower liqueur, and prosecco, which was both light and effervescent--definitely a royal choice! For our appetizer, we decided on the *Artichoke Francaise*. This dish featured tender, golden-fried artichokes dipped in a light egg batter and served with a luscious lemon-caper sauce. The artichokes were crispy and bursting with flavor, making it a delightful start to our meal.Moving on to the entrees, I couldn't resist the *Spaghetti and Clams*. The pasta was perfectly al dente and tossed with fresh littleneck clams, garlic, and a hint of white wine, creating a dish that was both comforting and sophisticated. Each forkful transported me to the Italian coast, with the briny taste of the sea shining through beautifully. My husband chose the *Truffle Tagliatelle*, an indulgent dish that featured handmade tagliatelle coated in a rich truffle cream sauce. The earthiness of the truffle paired wonderfully with the homemade pasta, making each bite a luxurious experience. It was garnished with shaved black truffles, elevating the dish to another level.Overall, our experience at Giuseppe and Sons was outstanding. The ambiance was warm and inviting, the service attentive and friendly, and the food simply outstanding. We left with full hearts and happy taste buds, already looking forward to our next visit!
