Overview: I stopped by Fukuoka Sushi Bar & Grill for a later dinner on a weekday. Located in a small shopping center in Midtown, parking won't be a problem as the shopping center has its own lot. Parking isn't the easiest in Midtown so that's a definite plus. Ambiance (3.5/5): Your typical Asian restaurant. Comfortable. We sat at a booth. The restaurant isn't huge but they have quite a few booths which is always a plus in my book. The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but it's homey inside. Service (4/5): Standard service. Efficient though our waiter could have been a little more attentive. He did take care of things quickly once I asked for the bill which is always appreciated. Drinks (5/5): My typical go-to at Japanese restaurants is hot sake with a Japanese beer. I went with a large hot sake and a Sapporo. Always a great combo. Food (3/5): I went with edamame as my appetizer and some sushi for my entree. Standard Japanese fare in my opinion. The edamame was solid but could have used a little salt for seasoning. The roll I had was pretty average too. I finished dinner still a little hungry. Your run-of-the-mill food here. I enjoyed it but it didn't stand out. Overall: One of the things Fukuoka is known for is its happy hour with great specials on both food and drinks. With those cost savings, that probably would have turned the tide for me as I could have gotten more food while saving some money. I'd check them out again for happy hour to see how that experience fares.

I came here wanting Ramen, but settled for Yaki udon because I couldn't find it on their menu. The food is meh, nothing special. The service was fine. The waiter was nice and very apologetic about the fight that broke out while I was there. The place was chill til one of the boss toss soy sauce packets and yelled at an employee by the sushi bar. Definitely an interesting experience, not expecting a place to sell Japanese cuisine while playing Chinese music and people yelling in Vietnamese in the kitchen.

Found this spot since I recently moved to midtown and the affordable options are slim here! The quality of their sushi is definitely comparable to my favorites Hokkaido and Oishii. The pricing isn't too bad, but you're definitely paying in the loop prices. Service and pick up has already been quick. I haven't sat in to eat yet, but their happy hour menu is definitely tempting. I'll need to give it a try!

Last weekend M. and I originally tried to score a late table at Dough Zone but were not optimistic once we saw the people and cars spilling out of the restaurant and the parking lot. In brainstorming the choices that would still be open and uncrowded in Midtown, we figured we'd give Fukuoka a shot, which we had always noticed on our way to Pho Saigon or Siu Lap City next door. As we expected, it was busy but not crowded, and we easily found parking before being seated immediately by the friendly waitstaff. The menu reminds me a lot of Hokkaido & Iwa Ya in Chinatown - there's a decent selection of appetizers, hot entrées, sushi/sashimi combos, and both basic and specialty rolls. I was initially set on chowing down on some raw fish but the $11 curry katsu seemed too good a deal to pass up. M. picked the chirashi and we both split the 2022 roll, on the server's recommendation. Here's my thoughts on what we tried:Curry Katsu Don - This generously sized bowl of curry katsu was delicious and restorative for Houston's cooler autumn evenings. The pork was perfectly fried and stayed crispy even when dipped in the rich curry sauce. I will say that I expected this Japanese-style curry to be a tad sweeter, but I also liked that they offered both chicken or pork options to suit your dietary preference.Chirashi - A good selection of fresh sashimi cuts on seasoned rice - it certainly gets the job done. At $22.50 the price reflects the neighborhood more than anything.2022 roll - We liked the concept of this roll (particularly the combo of yellowtail and Korean pear) but it was topped with a sweet creamy sauce that had a lingering Thousand Island-like aftertaste - not for us.Service was prompt and well-intentioned, but the sushi bar must have been slammed as we shared 3/4 of the curry and even paused for a bit before the chirashi and roll arrived. Regardless, I think Fukuoka is a solid casual sushi bar when I'm not looking to make the drive to farther places or to splurge on a higher-end option. I'm looking forward to trying the unagi bowl or a bento box next time!

Came here for lunch today with my boyfriend and we both ordered off of the lunch specials menu, which offers great deals! I got the 3 sushi combo for $16.50 + choice of soup or salad and it was the perfect portion! The sushi rice was a bit too mushy in the makis for me. My boyfriend got the mini unagi bowl and it was a bit smaller than I thought it'd be but it was tasty. We also got the takoyaki as an appetizer since it was only $4.95 and we really liked how crisp the outside was. Waiters were attentive since it was a small place. Parking can be difficult since it's in a complex with other restaurants.

Fukuoka is a nice spot that serves quality sushi at a reasonable price. The restaurant was under renovation during our visit but they had outdoor seating which was just fine. The service was friendly and fast as well which always makes for a better experience.

Decided to give this spot for lunch instead of pho saigon next door.I got pork katsu bento and it was a perfect meal. The pork katsu didn't disappoint, had good enough thickness to it. The house salad was the bomb! Not sure why there was ginger in the middle. The gyoza yum. The pork katsu sauce = is weird, tasted like a mixture of a1 and some other sauce.Limited parking but you can always park upstairs in the garage. The service is ok, I think it needs some improvement bc it's dry and the bare minimum.Cozy vibes and a clean area. lunch specials from 11 am till 2:30 pm!For some reason, the photo isn't attached. Will try again later

Fast service , good food , nice atmosphere. Some of the best cheese crab puffs i've had , had less filling than desired but amazing flavor and flakey batter. Chicken fried rice came in large portions and overall very good. Also ordered Spider & Crazy Maki , tasted fresh but nothing crazy to report. Will definitely be back !
