Frenchies Italian Restaurant

It's been awhile since I've been back here but this was my fourth visit at Frenchies. I must say the taste of the food has gone down since I can remember. Just 4 years ago, we dined at Villa Capri and 5 of our family members ordered the carbonara pasta and all 5 of us claimed it was the best carbonara we've all had. When I visited this time, it was. Friday, 530pm, before a large crowd gathered we were directed to a table quickly and served water and drinks. My carbonara pasta had many chunks of semi smoked ham, definitely not bacon of guanciale. The taste was off, couldn't tell if it was supposed to be sweet but the pasta lacked salt. I saw a table near us pouring salt on their dish as well. My husband had the chicken parm with a side of fetuccini. Barely a side...came on an app plate. The pink sauce was decent and cheese ravioli was likely the most seasoned dish we had. That and the bread. Unfortunately, I'll have to search for the best carbonara in Houston once again.

Frenchie's was recommended by Shawn, our tour guide for the VIP Astronaut Training tour at Space Center Houston. Boy was he spot on with the recommendation, the food at Frenchie's is phenomenal! Why four stars? The vibe was a bit off with the owner barking at the servers, walking around the restaurant visibly upset, grumbling and just being unpleasant. He came to our table to take our check and we complimented the food, only to be grunted at?? It was truly uncomfortable!! Now, the food and the service, that was perfection! I had the lasagna and it was delicious, exactly what I was expecting from a highly recommended Italian restaurant. Hubby had the steak with Dijon sauce and said it was amazing, he wanted to lick the sauce off the plate!! We shared a bottle of Italian red that was recommended by our wonderful server Maria who definitely knew what she was recommending! Maria was wonderfully attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu. The ambiance is old Italian with history, including NASA history! I highly recommend a visit, it's definitely a great break from BBQ!!

I've been visiting Houston Texas for nine years, and each time I went I was hoping I would be able to visit the famous Frenchies Italian restaurant. Unfortunately, every time I planned on going, it was either booked solid, or I had other plans that were made. So this til w around, hell or high water, I was determined to eat at this historic restaurant. Houston, we have lift off.Before we talk about the food, it's super important that we discuss the history of this establishment in the area. The owners are the nicest people you'll ever meet in your life, and if you speak any Italian, I highly recommend you practice with them. As space geek, I absolutely loved all the autographed photos and memorabilia from NASA and all the astronauts that have visited.My friends and I ordered the following items :Italian antipastiEscargotGarlic breadChicken marsala with angel hair pastaChicken cacciatoreZuppa de Pesce Everything was absolutely amazing... But of course we had to finish off with the famous chocolate mousse, which was to die for. Must place anyone visiting or living in Houston, Texas. Yum.

I dined here for lunch a couple of weeks ago while in the area after having Frenchie's bookmarked. It's located in a small strip center with parking in front. Inside it is decorated with many pictures of NASA astronauts and space missions as it's located close to NASA and appears to be a popular dining spot with their employees.From their lunch menu I decided on spaghetti with meat sauce for $14 and added a side salad for another $2.50. At lunch this is counter service and dinner is table service. I picked up my salad and a bread basket at the counter and proceeded to a table. The mixed greens had tomatoes and carrot slices. It was good tasting and worth its price. About 10 minutes later the bowl of 'ghetti was brought to me. It was a large bowl of food with plenty of meat sauce on top of the pasta and enough for two people. This was a filling meal for sure.I like to judge Italian restaurants by their marinara. To me it's the foundation of most Italian meals. This red sauce was ok but more of a 3 than a 4 in taste. Others may differ but I thought it was a little flat. I give a 3 overall for only that reason. This little restaurant has charm and the employees are friendly. It has a real neighborhood feel to it like it's popular with the locals. I would be happy to return for dinner and try some of their non marinara dishes or a pizza.

Holy smokes. What amazing Italian with portion sizes that will have you reaching for your Thanksgiving pants! I had the champagne shrimp which was everything I had hoped it would be. Our group ordered gnocchi for the table, one white and one red (both were good but I could bathe is the white sauce) service for our large group was spectacular!

Food is true Italian food. Hot fresh tasty and large portions. Highly recommend Family Friendly. Family Owned. Local favorite

I have been a long term customer at Frenchies. If you haven't tried their caesar salad, please do. Their signature dressing in house made and delicious. I love their eggplant parmesan and the lasagna is awesome also. If I weren't so addicted to these, I might have tried the others. Don't miss Frenchies. It is delightful.

I ordered from Frenchies to go a couple months ago when I had a friend visiting because I always see them recommended and had been meaning to try them. To be fair, it was to go because we had small restless kids, and nothing is as good to go (extra star for that). I was thinking it would be something special, and no one was impressed to the point that my company suggested next time we go with one of the places I frequent. I had the eggplant parm which is a go to dish when I eat Italian, but we had at least 3 different dishes represented. Maybe I just got a bad night, but it definitely ranked low on my experiences with Italian food.

This place must appear to have been a favorite for the NASA crew, but this place has lost the luster it once had. We selected some simple dishes(fettuccine with chicken, lasagna, chicken parm). Those meals lacked flavor and were extremely bland. My fettuccine had an unexplain mixed of different pastas, and the chicken lacked flavor. The chicken parm was the same, a mix of pasta and chicken without flavor. This place needs new energy... I believe Mr Frechie could use a break.

Whenever we first arrived, the place didn't seem all that but my brother and I wanted to give it a try. When we first walked in we were greeted by the staff and we were allowed to sit anywhere on the left side, the right was for a table of a big party. Anyways the place is pretty decently spacious, cool and lovely. It's very illuminated and clean. Our sever Ms. Mia is such a wonderful and nice but she wasn't the only one with excellent service, i noticed other customers getting well attended by other staff which is nice to see. Now for the food. The Garlic bread is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. the Garlic bread wasn't greasy the butter on the bread tasted really rich. The Onion soup was really nice and tasty!The Ranch salad tasted like a regular traditional salad nothing too fancy but nothing too bad either.My brother got the Salmon that came with lemon butter garlic. he says it tasted very exquisite, the salmon was very soft and tender! DELICIOUSI got the Shrimp Champagne and LET ME TELL YOU MY FOOD WAS VERY DELICIOUS VERY GOOD. overall i guess you can say the food was beyond our expectations. every bite was packed with flavor!!! didn't miss a beat.Thank you Frenchis for your delicious food and service. We will definitely be back.
