Houston doesn't have a great South Indian food scene. It's crazy the place with less Indians like Austin and San Antonio have pretty amazing choices for Texas. This place foremost is downtown so have to pay to park and it's not bad, 4 bucks, at Emerson parking garage across from it so not too bad. Idly wasn't soft. I've had homemade and amazing idly most of my life and this didn't live up to that. Sambar was very diluted and watery which was unfortunate. Dosa was okay and seemed like they were catering to non Indians with the names. I don't know if that's smart. South Indian food is usually consumed by Indians mostly but it is what it is. Dosa was very average to not great. The main thing I liked and I'd recommend is the poori. That was actually very solid and I recommend

I've never actually been here since it's closed on the weekend and I hate parking downtown during the week. I always get my food delivered instead. It is also the closest place through delivery that I can get dosas so they always arrive hot and fresh.Despite the name of the restaurant, I always prefer the dosas over the idlis they have even though I always get variations both in each order. The magic masala dosa is my favourite and what makes Flying's version unique is that they spread the masala filling throughout the dosa rather than clump it in the middle. Their idlis are fine and I think their Kanchipuram idlis is the best of the lot since they are flavoured well without the chutney or sambar.I had visited the original location once and liked it although the chutney was much thicker and sambar was salty that day, possibly because I had eaten near closing. I have had no issues with either the chutney or sambar here; hence the five stars because this is great food without any flaws. Just wish it was in a location where I can visit on the weekend rather than have to drive out to westchase.

After walking by it multiple times, my coworker and I finally stopped by for a quick lunch. BE AWARE this is a vegan restaurant. They were nice to warn of this before we sat down (guessing they get a lot of people leave) because my coworker and I definitely look like meat eaters. The gentlemen (believe he is the manager) was great, he helped walk us through the menu. We went with the two Magic dishes dosa and idlis (split plate in the photo below). We split it in half so we each got a taste. The price was very inexpensive compared to a lot of downtown restaurants. The flavor was great and came with three types of dipping sauces, which were all enjoyable. It appears they do a lot of take out business, but there dining room although small was busy. Will I be back? It is not an everyday kind of lunch place for me, but definitely a good change up spot from the usual. Definitely will return when I want a change of pace.

This place is a disgrace to the Idlis. I have been to there other location about couple of years ago an had a good experience. Before we headed to this place my friend who lives in Houston told me that the quality has went down. I was like how can some one, screw up making Idlis and dosa. He was right with it. We had couple of different kinds of dosas and bunch of different Idlis. It took forever for the order to come in. We went in on Memorial Day. There was one girl in the front who was taking orders in the front and was bringing in food from kitchen. She had been overworked, I pity for her but waiting for 90 minutes when only 3 other tables were occupied is not at all apt. The Magic Masala Dosa - 3/5Rava Dosa - 3/5Kanchipuram Dosa - 0/5 Its completely tasted like turmeric Bullet Idli ( Gunta Punugulu) - 3/5Stuffed Idli- 0/5Yummy Idli- 0/5Tea - 0/5The Idli along with the chutney and Sambhar were not good at all. The idlis were cold and had a layer around them. Not sure how this place is serving these kind of food which lacks taste and authenticity. Will never recommend this place to anybody to even give it a shot.

Very delicious. I was able to get great food when Houston was shut down for the show storm. This is a vegetarian restaurant and it is delicious. If you order spicy you will get what you ask for. I enjoy every dish. The owner/ manager real good vibe and energy, good people at this location. Stop in. Live, love and laugh, -Sha M.

If you're coming downtown solely to eat here - as I was - parking isn't easy. However, if you're there, you'll find quality Indian breakfast food. An idli is a steamed cake and a dosa is a savory crepe; both are typically made from fermented lentils and rice, but they have more than one variety here.I sampled a "healthy" dosa with oats and buttermilk mixed in. I found this strange in that it implies that the default dosa is not healthy; it seems like they're selling themselves short. Such a dosa is thick and crumbly and pretty much tastes like oats and buttermilk. It was an interesting experiment, but to be honest I prefer the traditional version. No such issues with my idli, which I ordered the "bullet" version of. Both these items came with some really fantastic and unique chutneys for dipping. My idli had an extreme spicy one, but both had one that looked like coconut and tasted like peanut. The mix of flavors provided and exciting experience, and I was out of there for $10 plus tax and tip. This is the sort of breakfast I wish I ate more of.

Always love Flying Idlis and their healthy options. Getting the batter ready for the products they make is pretty time consuming and cumbersome. The grains and lentils need to be soaked overnight. Then the batter needs to rise which is another long process. The best thing is that they make oat idlis available, as a diabetic, these idlis are very healthy for me and they are very tasty. I am glad to see that a lot of non-Indians have the opportunity to experience this South Indian delicacy.

Avoid this place at all costs. The food was disgusting. The idili was like a rock and lacked flavor. The chutney was cheaply made with peanuts and had no taste. Dosa was hard inside and not crispy outside. Tea had way too much spice that overrode the flavor of tea. The menu prices was more than the amount on the receipt. I let them know it's illegal in USA and they didn't care. About to leave and wash my hands. Tried to open then Mens room door and realized it was locked. So tried to open the Women's room and was rudely told by the female employee that "this is the women's." She then closed the door. Right after the female employee came out of the Mens bathroom. So let me get this straight females can use male restroom but not the other way around?

Food is good but quality is small and price is high. I was hungry in 2 hours of eating a dosa.

Best part about this restaurant is they are open at 7:00 am. Good fresh food, chutneys and sambar are bland.Should make little spicy.
