Philly's "Famous" had me at the menu! I mean it! Walk in hungry having never seen their selections and I was instantly transported to my grandmother's kitchen let alone every favorite family feast throughout my childhood!!I settled on the beef brisket sandwich which was as piled high as it was tender and full of flavor!! I opted for both 1000-island on the side and a dish of the Ajou! Clearly they've corned success at the heals of my ancestors!! The pickle was the right amount of sour and crispness & the health salad had a nice tang that complimented everything!!My cousin enjoyed an omelette that must have pleased him because he could barely finish his heaping pile of perfectly cooked fries!!!This establishment is a must regardless of the meal of the day and leftovers are likely!!! Mine will be enjoyed for breakfast in the morning because WHY NOT!!They even give you cookies as if they need to thank of for dining!!!I can't wait to return!!!

The best corned beef special in Philadelphia but so large you should share or plan to bring half home. If you eat in their charming deco diner where there's plenty of seating you'll get several tasty treats with your order including mini potato pancakes/latkes or another side and, with your check, everyone gets very tasty mini chocolate chip cookies. So many other oversized, delectable entrees. I've had the chef's salad when eating low carb and loved it for the 3 days it took to finish it. Many hot entree dished on their extensive menu.Since I live not far away, I get takeout from front deli cases here frequently. Perfectly sliced Nova, smoked white fish, recently tried their very good (almost as good as granny's) chopped liver, always get the health salad which I prefer to use in place of cole slaw. They have comically large slices of cake and some cookies the size of your head. They taste good but not so great you'll eat a regrettable amount in one sitting. Even better tasting -- and what I always buy whether eating in or doing takeout -- is their apricot hamantashen and house made bagels and rye bread. Famous Deli has changed owners several times over the years but I think they've always maintained what was good and made some things even better.Helpful, friendly service. Only downside is no outdoor seating.

I got absolutely mogged by a Yoga Sculpt class at Corepower, one of those ones that makes you see God. It's good to be humbled like that every once in a while though.I obviously needed a big meal to replenish my soul, so I made the walk over to Famous 4th Street Deli. I'd walked by many times, making a mental note to try it as it looks BOMB, and it is famous after all...I walked in and immediately loved the ambiance: tiled floors and walls, dried sausages hanging, fresh bread stacked in a corner, employees slicing meat behind the counter with white aprons, delicious pastries staring at you through the glass below the counter, etc. It's just an authentic Jewish deli. There were some people waiting in what had some semblance of a line, but I couldn't tell if they had ordered or not. I'm really shy but after about 2 minutes, I mustered up all of my courage and asked if they had ordered. "Yeah, just waiting!" they responded. LET'S GO! 2024 IS THE YEAR OF THE SHY GUY!I took a look at the beast of a menu, but saw a sandwich that was just pastrami and egg so I knew what I had to do. I ordered that bad boy, waited about 6 minutes in the semblance of the line before I tapped my phone to pay the $10 and walked back to my gfs apartment to eat. This sandwich was a TANK. It would have been $25 in New York no doubt. Probably 3 eggs and tons of pastrami smacked between two pieces of fresh rye bread. I grabbed some hot sauce from the fridge and started ripping into this like I had never eaten before. I looked at my girlfriend like "yo wtf why have you never taken me here before!?" I mean it wasn't Katz good, but it was still damn good.I will be here again whenever I am in town, as there is nothing quite like eating a quality big meal after getting a good sweat on a Sunday morning. "I deserve this" type beat. Exactly what I needed after such a dominant performance in Corepower.THANK YOU 4TH STREET DELI PLEASE NEVER SWITCH UP!IG @jnov_Tiktok @jnov_reviews

I had the best pastrami I have ever had at this restaurant when we were there n Philly. Sandwich was huge! I do wish they had more mustard options, as not everyone likes a spicy, brown mustard. My daughter enjoyed her HUGE bowl of mushroom barley soup, my husband had a respectable steak & cheese as well. Fries were excellent. Potato pancake was flavorful and my daughter enjoyed her french dip sandwich. We had lots of leftovers as the portions are generous. I will tell you that the giant slices of cake they have in their case were too good to be true. Disappointed in both varieties we brought back to the hotel with us.

A classic. They've been around 100 years, so they must be doing something right. Never had a bad meal here. And the cakes and pastries are delicious. Breakfast is really good here, but lunch is where it gets special. Deli sandwiches and salads piled high, with great sides that make it hard to choose. The soups are meals in themselves. I over-ordered and took mine to go. It was nearly 32 oz of tasty, hearty mushroom barley soup. The fries are delicious planks of fresh Russets with the skins on. The potato pancakes are dense and crispy and flavorful. I really like their pickles, which I think is the true test of any respectable delicatessen. The brisket is fall-apart tender and so good. All portions are ridiculously large. One brisket entree provides enough meat for nearly a week of meals. I know because it did!

Found out the other day that my boyfriend had never been here, so we changed that! We came in on Friday morning. We're able to find street parking easily which is always a good thing! We started with the pickles which I love! I ordered the corned beef hash with eggs. My boyfriend had the grilled Reuben with the potato latkes. We also had the fries. Everything was incredible, including the service! I love it here. Always have. It's beautiful to me-the windows, the light fixtures, the tile. Such a wonderful place to enjoy some really great food! Yes, it can expensive but the servings are huge. You can absolutely split a sandwich or you can take leftovers home and enjoy it again! Well worth it!

Famous 4th Street Deli was fantastic in our visit yesterday. The vibe inside was great (tons of energy, lots of natural light, impressive baked goods counter) and the food may have been even better (loved the potato pancakes, corned beef hash, and breakfast sandwich). The only possible issue is that things can get pricey, but with massive portions and obviously good quality, I'd say things are justifiable. Will be returning!

If you are ever in Philadelphia, you must stop at this place! I wish we lived closer and could go more often! This time we tried a few new dishes and all were delicious. Also tried a few we had before and were still just as good! I don't think you can go wrong here! Food: Potato pancakes just as good as I remembered and love the apple sauce where my husband prefers the sour cream. Husband got the huge roast beef and loved it! Plenty of meat! Good rye bread and he enjoyed the potato salad Chicken noodle soup-absolutely delicious!!! Macaroni salad-so good! Hot dog-on the challah bread-so delicious! The way a hot dog should be. Carrot Cake-so tastyFunfetti Cake-tasty as well Chocolate chip cookies-the best! The inside is not too large and some of the tables are a little close but I think that is part of the charm. A lot of famous people have visited throughout the years and they have pictures on the walls as well as placards at the tables where they have sat. Our server was attentive and even though it was a full house she checked on us and the kitchen was rocking with getting food out. Love that at the end of the meal everyone gets a decent size chocolate chip cookie!

Well folks, the cornbeef quality has taken a nose dive since my last visit about a year ago. The quality has fallen 20% not saying the other parts of the menu has but the ( Corny beef ) is average at best!

I rarely do review on here but I ordered delivery from here, as I was craving a chicken salad sandwich. Their late hours are great. The chicken salad sandwich? Heavenly. The rye bread was also very unique and I wish I knew where they got it from. I will be ordering again or making the trip over to the store. Fantastic!
