I was pleasantly surprised with everything here. Wanted a place to watch the Dallas Mavericks take on the OKC Thunder and a good something to munch on other than room service and the hotel bar food. So, I pulled up a stool (with a back ) to the E bar that had enough TVs and was instantly asked what I wanted to drink from the bartender. I like bubbles and red wine...the Prosecco and Chianti were not high end but reasonably priced and tasty. I did go outside my usual box and had a fabulous martini given to me by the bartender. Now, for the best part- I am a NY Style Pizza lover. Always the pizza style I choose. I haven't really had pizza in almost 3 months though. I was trying to consume less gluten and gluten free crusts don't please my taste buds. But the customers beside me were eating a Chicago style pizza. It looked amazing. I thought "when in Rome and what the heck! " I ordered a supreme type Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Lots of meat (Italian sausage, pepperoni, etc) and mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion. It was awesome!!! The crust was the perfect thickness and almost had a buttery fried texture, not chewy or doughy like the ones I have had in the past. This delicioso crust was topped with red sauce, cheese, meats and veggies, then more cheese. Love at first bite. Unbelievably yummy and what a way to break a pizza fast. The atmosphere is pretty cool too. It's a former Speakeasy and has mobster memorabilia and old 50s movie stars on the walls. Definitely get the feeling you might have found Ole Blue Eyes or Elvis here when they were around!Make it a stop on any authentic Chi-town experience. No regrets.

First and foremost our server Mo Mahamoud was spectacular. This is an old fashioned Chicago downtown pub themed in the prohibition Al Capone era, that I used to dine in regularly 35 years ago but had not been to in over 20 years. This place is so "Chicago" that a tour company brought 9 people in to see the inside and have a quick Chicago Italian Beef/Sausage Combo sandwich dipped in au jus! SERIOUSLY! My daughter had the Italian Beef sandwich and her only complaint was it didn't come dipped and wrapped (like at Al's Beef) but her plate was completely clean before we left. My wife devoured as much of her "Prohibition Burger" with lettuce, huge slices of tomato and onion, pickles and the "Secret Speakeasy Sauce" as she could, but it was too big for her to finish and she ordered the single not the double! The Onion Rings were as I recalled--the best downtown. There thin crust crispy bottom deluxe pizza with sausage, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers is why I was a regular when I had an office on the east side of the Loop, and it was as I recalled--amazing!Toss in a really decent Tiramisu and a chocolate martini and you'll have a truly memorable experience at Exchequer Pub!

Got great reviews for its Chicago deep dish pizza. This we had to check it out for our first taste of Chicago's deep dish pizza. When we walked in we were greeted immediately and seated. Menus and waters were passed out. A waitress came around to take our drink order. We weren't ready yet. Before she had time to return another waitress came by and took our drink order. Shortly after we got our drinks she came back and took our dinner order. We ordered a deep dish pizza. We were informed it would take 30-40 minutes. Our pizza arrived right on time. It was hot and the cheese was stringy. The pizza was delicious

This is a solid restaurant. It's the middle of the day, and they were busy. Max and I were here for the pizza. They boast having an award winning pizza. I should have asked what it was because I would say ours was great, but not award winning. Lovely dark wood interior.

I was staying right down the street at the Palmer House Hilton and wanted to try this spot. The exterior gave me a great vibe, see picture. The interior decor is old school, they have movie posters from Psycho on the wall and the mug shot of Frank Sinatra being arrested, great stuff to see all around the restaurant. The Exchequer Pub is right as you walk in the front door, the dining room is further back. They have great pizza, according to the person sitting next to me. For dinner, I got the Capone's Rigatoni with sausage and vodka sauce (A grade). This was a nice size serving, I could not finish everything. The service was very friendly, thanks Moe, who wore a Toronto Bluejays hat. The prices are great considering you are downtown in Chicago and you definitely get your money's worth. I washed it all down with a Zombie Dust - pale ale 6.5% ABV (Munster, IN).

This is a review just on the beef sandwich. It was one of my first chicago beef sandwiches. I tried it with the au jus and the peppers. Thought the beef was very bland. The bread was good but I wouldn't order again.

Because we were doing a staycation in the Loop, The Exchequer Pub was one of the places I wanted to stop in at. It's been years since I was in here, but I gotta say, it was like going home after being gone for a while. The decor has not changed and they still have that lead ceiling that can jack up phone reception. They still have the movie poster from Psycho on the wall and the mug shot of Frank Sinatra being arrested for "Seduction"...HAHAHAHAHA!The Exchequer Pub always had a solid, no frills menu, with good pastas and sauces and great pizza. And the service was always friendly, even when things get hectic. We arrived at 4:45 pm for our reservation and the place was fairly empty. But I would say about 20 min later, people started trickling in, then flowing in. By the time we wrapped up, there was a line to get into the joint. We did not do appetizers because we wanted to get an entree and split the Lamb Chops (Four lollipop Greek style lamb chops served with roasted Greek potatoes). This was very good and there was nothing to take back to the room. The lamb chops were of a decent size and seasoned just right. The potatoes were also good. Although they were wedges, they fell apart (in a good way) when trying to pick one up to transfer to my plate...it got eaten nonetheless. For dinner, we all got the Capone's Rigatoni with meatballs and vodka sauce (for me and my BFF) and marinara for The Doctor. This was a nice size serving and this did go home with all of us for enjoyment later. The one thing I did notice that had not change was the number of pizza boxes going up front. They do a great take out business. The prices are great considering you are downtown in Chicago and you definitely get you money's worth. As a side note, they do not have prosecco listed on the menu, but do serve it by the glass.

Met some friends here before an event at the Auditorium Theatre on a Sunday evening. It is a convenient spot if you're attending something in the loop and a place that is reasonably priced with typical bar food and pizzas. There is plenty of garage parking around and the L stops make this place easy to access. The old gangster/mob references all over made us google the history of the place, which turns out has quite an extensive history! It was really cool to learn how the building relates to the 20s and Al Capone. We had a reservation and service was fairly slow, despite the restaurant not being completely full. Maybe it was an off night for everyone? It was about 10 minutes for a server to come check in on drink orders, which took another 10 minutes to get. They do have a full bar and were willing to make drinks off the menu, which was great. There are also vegetarian options, which was another reason we were pulled to this place for my friend. After placing our order, it was another 30 minutes before we got our food. Most tables around us were echoing the same sentiment about the wait. Unfortunately, we couldn't order a pizza due to concerns about not being able to take any leftovers into our show. So we chose bar/finger food and everything was fairly average. The wings were decent but nothing to rave about. The salad was the best part with the most flavor. The burgers were mildly warm and the fries were cold. There was supposedly a "special sauce" but I didn't have any on mine, nor did my friend. My friend specifically asked for an impossible burger and they served her a regular burger. Luckily we caught it and then it took her another 15 minutes to get her food. It seems the pizza is really the place to go, so if I'm back around I would want to try that. Also really trying to give this place the benefit of the doubt about the off night with the wait. We gave ourselves 2 and a half hours before our event and we barely made it on time due to the wait. If I'm around and not on a schedule, I'll probably go back and try the pizza with friends. It wasn't a horrible experience, but was average at best.
