El Vez

This place hit the spot on a famished late night. Everything was fresh and fantastic, especially the drinks (we tried the frozen blood orange margarita and the strawberry margarita). The enchiladas mixtas gave us the opportunity to try many options -- chicken, black bean, and brisket. The chicken was surprisingly my favorite yet the black bean one had the best sauce which so good I dipped my chips in it. The brisket, while incredibly tasty, was my least favorite; however, this is coming from someone who doesn't like mole, but I devoured the enchilada anyway which should say a lot.My dinner mate ordered the steak tacos but liked the fresh tomatoes better than the steak itself. I personally thought the whole shebang was perfect. Also, I loved the vibrant, colorful, and quirky decor. The vibe is lit and the place is kinda loud, but I saw a variety of patrons including romantic dates, families with kids, families without kids, birthday celebrations, and just groups of friends hanging out.Service was prompt but not very engaging. Considering how hungry we were, not a problem since everything came out quickly and piping hot. It was just funny that our server asked the usual "how is everything" question before I even had a chance to take a bite, lol.

Ordered the Oscar De La Joya Guacamole, Chicken Nachos, and for dessert the Churro's. The Guacamole and chips that come with it are perfect. Great mixture in the Guacamole. Oscar was known not to duck any fighter and fought above and below his weight class and in doing so took some losses. This didn't stop him from winning 10 world titles. Be like Oscar and don't duck this Guacamole. This Chicken Nachos arrived on a 16 inch pizza plate with a mixture of cheese, chicken, and other ingredients. This was a different presentation from other places. Good eating, but I stuck mostly with the guacamole. The Churros were very good and were crispy with the perfect blend of sugar and cinnamon. The chocolate dipping sauce that comes with them was not to my liking. Shannon was amazing and a very nice person and she shared her favorite place to visit in Philadelphia. She's a true green Eagles Fan and great person.

Food was decent but the service needs some help. I came here for lunch on a week day. They were about 1/3 full when I got there and maybe 2/3 full by the time I left. There is a lot of seating inside. It was dark with loud music. The bathroom is downstairs.Limeade - refreshing and neither sweet nor especially tart. Grilled corn - they can make this on or off the cob. It came smothered in sauce. It had a great flavor. Not a lot of spice but I love spicy food.Tuna tostadas - good helping of tuna on each one. It tasted fresh too. There were only 2 tostadas so I don't know if the folks with 3 in the pictures are just older or for dinner. However it was a good portion for me for lunch with the elote. I did not taste the Serrano until the very end so they were not spicy at all. I loved the shaved onions on top. Great balance of flavors. Strawberry Choco Taco (to go) - You really need the strawberry dip to get the flavor. The taco itself was kind of plain, but maybe I went in thinking too much about the original Choco Taco.Unfortunately the service was not great. It took a long time to place an order. I was sitting without menus for what felt like forever. I don't know where that breakdown in communication happened. Then I was sitting forever with the menus waiting to order. I had to keep flagging someone down to get help.

I called this restaurant to order some takeout for an early dinner and the order was promptly ready when I arrived at the restaurant. The staff was very friendly and the food tasted amazing. If you are looking for a quick takeout in the area I recommend El Vez!

We went to El Vez Philly to have an early dinner before a concert. I had made reservations via OpenTable and we were warmly greeted and promplty seated upon arrival. Food - It was good but I did not care for the sauce on the Chicken Enchilada. I tried that one ($15) with crema fresca, radish, cotija cheese but the red sauce was not what I was looking for. I would get something else next time. My partner got the Enchiladas Mixtas ($23) which had a smaller size of the chicken, short rib, black bean. Of course I had to try a bite of the short rib ant then the black bean with the black bean surprisingly being my fav. We started with some sort of chips and queso with a variety of sauces but can't remember the name of it. Those were fun trying the different flavors. I also really enjoyed the black beans and rice too.Service - I was not impressed with the service at all. We hardly saw our server and had to look for when not only placing the order but for the check. I am a crowd watcher so it seemed to just be our server. Maybe bad day, end of shift, or just personality. She was not rude, just not a very good server.Ambiance - Was great. I absolutely loved the vibe and the decor. It was nicely layout and colorful, and so inviting.The service was what made the experience just ok.

Overall, I had an amazing experience at El Vez. Both the food and service were great. Actually, the service was exceptional. Also, extra points bc the restaurant had the AC on full blast during a very hot day. For my brunching pleasure, I went with the huevos rancheros, and i was completely pleased with my entree. The frozen blood orange margarita is absolutely divine and quite divine on a hot AF day. If I could change one thing: I wish El Vez had more options for brunch. Other than that small "issue" El Vez definitely has it going on.

I've had dinner here several times. I'm sad to say every time I've been here something has been off. Not big deals that occur once in a while but they add up. I found a hair in my tacos that definitely wasn't mine and they corrected the problem right away and gave me a new plate and took it off my bill. A few friends and I received a really bad response from the host staff due to a miscommunication from the app to our reservation. They were not helpful at all and just looked at us "like what do you want us to do?" Offer a friendly suggestion. Another time I sat outside with someone and it was the end of the night, but our server kept changing because people were getting off of their shift and we couldn't find anyone to ask if we needed our bill and then waiting longer to pay it. The food is not bad but several other places have the same menu- with decent customer service.

I can't express enough the wonderful time my group of 11 friends had eating dinner at El Vez on a busy Friday night. The staff was so friendly and quick with getting our orders, keeping the drinks full, and asking if we needed anything else. We spent a good 2.5 hours there with the large amount of food and fun we were having. I got the enchiladas mixtas, which were delicious, and tuna ceviche and plenty of chips and guac. Will definitely be coming back!

My first time visiting El Vez with a friend for Mother's Day brunch was awesome. We were able to meet and sit at a table with great lighting and space. Immediately upon sitting, we ordered daytime drinks and I opted for the guava mojito. It was so good that I had to get 2 lol As a pescatarian and dairy avoider, I was happy to see I could choose from a variety of guacamole and chips along with a vegan burrito on the brunch menu. Both were delicious along with having healthy portions to take home the rest! The server was helpful and polite, while being able to check on us between our gabbing and catching up.I will definitely be back to try more of their menu and another guacamole!

Fun and lively place with great food. I ordered the steak tacos along with the pink Cadillac marg. The steak was tender and well seasoned. The marg was refreshing and wasn't too bitter. Overall would come again to try more things off their menu
