I stopped in today with my wife and our fiancé as we were shopping at the Army Surplus store right across the street. I love eating at places I've never been before. The building is well maintained, bright, open and airy feeling. I really enjoy the colors and the artworks on the walls. Our waitress was lovely, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. She had chips and salsa on our table as well as our drink orders taken within a minute of being seated. Our food was hot, fresh, well prepared and the portion sizes were just right. The queso was especially tasty and the chips were fresh. I wanted to try everything so we all ordered something different and shared. I will absolutely be back as I enjoyed the food and the experience very much. Ps. The fact we were a same sex female couple was very obvious and our waitress treated us perfectly normal. This place is lgbtq friendly.

My parents have been going to El Tep for over 30 years, so my brother and I have too. It never disappoints. My dad brought takeaway lunch to my place last week and it was so good. I had the chiles rellanos- seriously so good- I've been thinking about how good they were and debating making the trek across town for more. My husband had the chicken fajitas, which he thought were excellent but I thought didn't compare to those rellanos. My dad had a smothered chicken and bean burrito, like always. Their breakfast burritos are also very good!

Strolling along, we thought "this place seems like it's a neighborhood staple. Let's give it a try." Upon entering, the tables are set with brightly colored Mexican fabric and heavy, hand-carved wooden chairs, reminiscent of our time in Mexico. "This has promise" is our next thought. Then come the cold chips and oddly sweet salsa. "Oh no."We ordered a chile relleno plate, smothered chile cheese fries, horchata and agua de jamaica, and fried ice cream. The chile rellenos came smothered in the same green chile as the fries, and it was disappointing. No heat, bland, an more tomato than the typical green chile. Fries came out piping hot with lots of cheese, but honestly, I kept thinking of Chubby's chile cheese fries the whole time. The saving grace for this restaurant is the friendly staff who work very hard.Would not go again or recommend. There are dozens of far better places for Mexican.

There food is just ok. My chorizo wasn't the normal chorizo, maybe it was a beef chorizo. It wasn't greasy, which I would have liked better. It's pretty dry, I guess that's why they smother it in green chili. The tortillas were dry and hard on the ends, and the chips are store bought. My horchata was yummy though! The biggest downfall is the outside, there are homeless people sitting right in front of the door smoking pot and sleeping. I understand there is little anyone can do about this but I just didn't feel safe, especially after the waitress told us a customer was attacked by a homeless person just recently. I will not be going back.

I went here yesterday, was my 3rd visit. I love this place! Their food is flavorful, the service is fantastic and I really enjoy the atmosphere. They always have good specials as well which I honestly don't see much of these days. DEEElicious!!Servers are always friendly and helpful.

Well, after not going here for over a year because of a poor experience with the breakfast burrito, we decided to go for Cinco De Mayo, just for margaritas, but ended up getting an appetizer. We got the house and blue margaritas, which were fine, but warm when we first got them? The chips and salsa were the best part of the entire experience by far. We then ordered the combo A - beef burrito, chilli relleno, bean tostada, and beef hard shell taco. Honestly, all of it was pretty bad. The only actually enjoyable part was the green chilie smothered on the burrito. Otherwise, the refried beans were meh, the beef was way over cooked and super dry, and the chili relleno sauce was really weird. I described it as eating incense and my fiancé said it tasted like "a youth hockeys arena," neither which are very appealing things to eat... service was also quite slow (they only had 3 people working which is understandable, but it was Cinco De Mayo?) Once again disappointed and will now for sure not be returning ever again

Had the Huevos Rancheros since that is my go-to at any mexican restaurant. It was ok. Didn't blow me away and I've had much tastier versions. I enjoyed the green chile. Hubs had the rellenos and they were just ok too. I don't think we will be back here for our fix.

The chile relleno plate was blandly slopped together. The service was indifferent. The green chile was abundant but lacked flavor. I abandoned most of the food on my plate besides one of the chile rellenos. I was hoping for a better meal.
