This was the best plate of food i've had in a whileeeeee. This is a small little place in an ugly little plaza but the food is too damn good. Me and my dad came here after his chemo appointment and we were the only people in there. Our waitress was really nice and i'm sure is the daughter of the owners. She was attentive and made sure we had what we needed. The coffee is made with mexican piloncillo and my dad loved it. I had the chilaquiles and SHEEEESSSSSHHH ima stay thinking about them hoes till who knows when. What can i say? the beans were good as hell. the fries were good as hell. The eggs were good as hell. This plate cost $8, and I wish I could buy it every week. Definitely worth a try, I hope this place stays open cause I wanna go back. My dad really loved it so I know him and my mom will be going back.

El Ta-Cotorro Norteño is a cozy Mexican spot that serves truly authentic Mexican cuisine. This distinguishes it from the usual Tex-Mex restaurants in the area. One standout item on their menu is their Cafe de olla. Not only did the coffee have a rich flavor, but it also had that comforting aroma that really adds to the overall experience. I also appreciated the fact that they were able to accommodate my special request for chilaquiles divorciados. This means they served chilaquiles with both green and red sauces. Both sauces were flavorful and complemented the dish perfectly. I loved how they were served on a bed of beans and topped with Mexican cream. The combination of flavors was great. To wash down my meal, I indulged in their horchata. Unlike other places where horchata can be overly sweet, this one struck the perfect balance. It was creamy and had just the right amount of sweetness. I highly recommend pairing it with your meal. Now, let's talk about the tortillas. They were handmade and absolutely top-notch. They were soft, warm, and had that homemade taste that you just can't replicate through the whole sale/manufactured variety. The only minor drawback was the beef in our posole. It was a bit tough and could have been more tender. However, the posole itself was well-prepared and had all the traditional garnishes that you would expect. I would have preferred a bit more hominy, but it was still enjoyable overall. If you're in the mood for authentic Mexican food near 1960 and Veterans Memorial Drive, El Ta-Cotorro Norteño is the place to go. Their dedication to serving true Mexican flavors sets them apart from the average Tex-Mex joint. On my next visit, I'm definitely going to try their bacon-wrapped burrito and/or quesibirria. The cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food make this restaurant a hidden gem. Whether you're craving traditional Mexican dishes or want to try something new, El Ta-Cotorro Norteño will not disappoint. I'll absolutely be coming back for more.

Tacos dorados were amazing! With shredded beef. Perfect amount of meat, beans and lettuce. Crispy enough but not greasy.

Everything about this place just reminds me of home. The staff is extremely friendly and always recommends the best things. This is a hidden gem for sure, if you're looking for authentic Mexican food go here! I'm such a small business lover so when i saw this place open up close to my neighborhood i had to try it out & I've been coming ever since! My favorite and i mean favorite thing on their menu has to be the torta de pierna! The pork is sooooo tender, it's always packed with flavor and so juicy & DONT get me started on their salsa verde OMG! it has the perfect amount of spicy , flavor and i can't help but douse my food in it! I have pictures of the torta but it's so good i had to eat half of it first they offer many other items on their menu but don't go without trying the torta de pierna ! I seriously hope more people come to check them out ! I've heard great things about their bacon wrapped burritos and thats on my to try list next to their birria tacos ! I will for sure update my review when i try it !

There is a small lady who's helped us order the best food on the menu. My father got an exotic menudo with cow feet, and I the quesabirria! Súper delicioso. Will definitely be visiting soon. The place is also very lovely decorated.

Absolutely the best authentic Mexican food I've had, outside of Mexico! I highly recommend this little place and the owners/staff are amazing! I eat here every time I come to Houston, no matter how far out of the way it is.

Great little hole in the wall restaurant with super friendly employees. It was our first time here today and it did not disappoint. I had the cafe de olla and posole. Both were great. They did not cheap out on the meat in the posole... it had more meat than hominy. The cafe de olla was sweet with a hint of cinnamon. I'll be coming back here to try the quesi- birrias that come with a side of consume. They have tortillas de arina that they import from Mexico. They also had aguas frescas, coco & horchata. I tried the horchata and it was great.Looking forward to coming back soon!

Being from right by the border, we are always on the search for some authentic Mexican food, and we found it here! We enjoyed Chilaquiles and Huevos Rancheros, and the salsa was on point, too! Stefany was great, with a great sense of humor! We highly recommend for a taste of authenticity!

Ordered some tacos and pozole takeout couple of days ago. I would have ended ordering more to try but ended not available as already very late afternoon. The receptionist was very friendly. Serving of my soup was plenty and hearty, flavorful and served hot even after coming home less than 10miles from the place. Tacos flavorful. The place gives you an impression of real festive Mexican restaurant although the location not what you'd expect. This place is a true hole in the wall for good food. Wish I could have come back for sit down experience as the nice receptionist said,"see you tomorrow"! Definitely would return if ever we're back in the area.
