If you're in Philadelphia and visiting the Reading Terminal Market, be sure to visit The Dutch Eating Place! It has a very basic retro diner style setup where you can sit and eat at the counter, or you can order your food to go. I tried the 2 egg breakfast along with toast, bacon, sausage and home fries cooked with onions and peppers. The breakfast was massive, food was excellent. There was so much food I had to take three pictures at different angles to show it all.Really enjoyed the atmosphere, had conversations with other customers also sitting at the counter, great experience.

We were able to stop by and dine in at Dutch Eating Place after landing and were excited to try the apple dumplings they're so famous for. We were also excited about their chipped beef, and blueberry pancakes. Everything else was a a bonus for us. Their diner is inside the Reading Terminal, and when you are inside you're immediately hit by the produce and the diners, butcher shop inside. It's a quick and walk to have a seat at Dutch Eating Place, or you can place a pickup order and go on your way. We sat in, and immediately were greeted and handed a menu, and offered drinks. We had coffee and a water, and started to browse. We settled on a blueberry pancake, the cream chipped beef, and the teen got a French toast with home fries. We were excited because Dutch Eating Place had amazing reviews! The food also smelled amazing; and they were pretty busy for an early morning. You know I feel bad because their reviews are great, but our food was pretty mediocre. The best thing we had was the blueberry pancake. It was so big and tasty! My creamed chipped beef was great, but it was warm!! Why?!?! It would have been so much better if it was hot, but I still ate the entire thing. The French toast was also heavy on eggs, and the home fries were different than what were used to. They were roughly chopped, some of the too pieces were crispy, but the deeper into the plate, the more soft and soggy they were and they lacked flavor. The coffee was okay, nothing to rave about. Now the apple dumpling was great- it was different, hot, and tasty. A couple bites in and we were hit with a terrible sweet tooth so we stopped eating it, but overall a great try since we were open minded this entire trip looking for food that was different than Vegas. Would I be back when I return? Maybe not; but I'm so glad I got to experience Dutch Eating Place!

Huge portions, great service, friendly staff Everything was awesome. Bar stool seating and not a whole lot of it is the only down fall.

In my 2+ years living here I've found that The Dutch Eating Place is one of the only Center City breakfast joints worth visiting. The overall concept is a traditional breakfast: fresh OJ, pancakes, omelettes; nothing avant garde or fancy. The selling point is that you can have a filling breakfast for under $10. They accept credit cards which, while unfitting with the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch vibe, is a welcomed convenience.Be mindful: to avoid waiting for a seat you'd do well to arrive at or before opening (08:00). I've seen every seat full by 08:15.

I ordered a breakfast sandwich from here inside of Reading terminal market. The sandwich was generous with meat (turkey bacon) and was very savory. I asked for no cheese on my sandwich, but they put it on anyway. It wasn't a deal breaker, but if you have restrictions, I highly suggest you check your food before you head out. When the line gets long, it's hard to see the menu until you get to the front, so I suggest getting a look at it before hand to save some time. They have seating if you want to dine in, of course there will be a wait certain times of the day, so plan accordingly.

This was recommended as a must try in Philly. I wanted to get stuff that I wouldn't normally get, so i got the creamed beef over potatoes, the apple dumpling, apple french toast, and the scrapple. Also, i suggest taking it to go and eating it at the tables as it's a counter eating style and it looks pretty cramped. Also do not come and expect to find a seat after 11 as it becomes almost impossible to walk in reading terminal market. We came at 10:15 and it was already hard to find a table just for two. The food was good, nothing to rave about really. It was solid but not sure if it was a MUST go to.

I had a very good breakfast inside RTM at Dutch Eating Place. It was basic, but had a good assortment, particularly of the proteins. I opted for scrapple because its something I'd never tried and can't get at home. The counter had more seats than I'd expected and service was quick. I'm impressed how well that compact kitchen works!

Absolutely must do breakfast when I am in Philadelphia, no questions asked.Located in the one and only, Reading Terminal Market, Dutch Eating place has become one of my favorite breakfast places IN THE WORLD. You cannot beat this place when we talk about quality of the food/ingredients, prices and sizes - If you've been there you know their pancakes are ginormous As you guessed, pancakes are a must here. I love their breakfast combos, I always try to ask for something different. The blueberry pancakes are a huge hit here, so I think you don't want to skip those either.Be mindful that seating is very limited, so try to arrive early, especially on the weekends. They do have a to go line, however, I think the magic happens mostly when you do the whole experience eating on site. You'll thank me later.
