We were visiting and I just kept seeing Diversion in social media. The concept is awesome and the drinks were delicious. I can't wait to go back and try more unique cocktails. Food-We did not order food(had an upcoming dinner reservation), but did order delicious drinks. Atmosphere - Where they are located looks sketchy but it's so worth it once you get inside. Our Uber driver even asked if we were sure this was the right place . We walked in to a dim speakeasy vibe. The menus were lit up so you could see well. We were the only customers there at our 6:30 reservation on a Thursday. Two additional couples came in towards 7:30. We sat at the bar chef counter, it was great seeing them make the drinks and just interacting. Service - The service was amazing. You can tell the bartenders are very passionate about their craft. They gave us more recommendations and were just very hospitable. If you've been to Aviary it's very similar.

The outside of the building looks like it could be a strip club. Go to the door on the right side of the building. When you walk in, it will take a moment for your eyes to adjust. It is very dark and intimate. Once your eyes adjust, you can see that it is very nice and well decorated. I made a reservation, but it was early in the evening and probably wasn't needed. However if you come in later than 5:30, I would totally recommend a reservation. We were escorted to a dark corner of the bar. Unfortunately the music was a touch too loud for my taste and there was a large party talking over the music. We were handed menus and the menus are back lit. These menus light up. So cool. The cocktails are expensive. But this is for the experience and they are well thought out. I tried the Pho' cupped cocktail. It was served warm with pho broth, lime and jalapeño. It was really tasty and it really felt like a meal. It was nice to sip on the chilly day. My friend ordered the Smokey Old Fashioned. It was smoked and covered in a cloche and uncloched at the table. The area filled with a warm aroma of a wood smoke. We each ordered another drink. I had something that came with boba. Everything was really well thought out and tasty. Overall, this was a fun experience. Due to the cost of cocktails, this is a great first date or special occasion place. Not sure I would come here every week. I personally would like to have the lights turned up a touch, and the music turned down. It was dark and intimate but if I can't hear my date, that is a problem.

We really enjoyed this place, and we will definitely be back!We almost drove past it at first, because it is a smaller, minimally marked building inside a massive parking area. But it was so nice not to have to hunt for parking for a change! The front door looks speakeasy-style with a door knocker, but we walked in and there was a sign that said please wait to be seated. We did not have a reservation but were able to get a spot at the bar as walk ins. They have these cool bar dividers to help you feel almost like you are at a private booth even though technically others are seated right next to you. Each drink is carefully crafted and designed, with an intricate presentation. The bartenders and mixologists were incredibly helpful and great at explaining and suggesting. Please check out the pictures I posted for each drink we got to try - we enjoyed them all! I think my favorites were the District 5 and the L'Amardine (topped with fennel oil - so interesting!).

I came here on a Friday night. I made a reservation just about an hour before hand. Pulling up it was a bit sketchy lol a small trailer like building in a huge parking lot. Once inside it had a very speakeasy like vibe. It seems like. Sitting room only kind of place like can't just go up to the bar to order. We sat at the bar with Covid style partitions between us and the next couple. The bartender explained the concept (drinks are an experience plated dinner style) I feel like that was supposed to be the rationale for the exorbitant prices of some of the drinks. There were more reasonably priced drinks but still a bit high for houston imo. I'd heard about their clarified espresso martini but it seems to sell out quickly. I had the Natsume and it was played very cute and was very intricately flavored and delicious. It was also pretty strong. My date had the TY Munson that was like a sweet old fashioned with smoke. Service was very attentive, bathrooms clean, only took one star for the price range but I'd return.

Diversion Cocktails was recommended by a friend, and I decided to visit the bar with my significant other. The ambiance was dark, and the wood was in a darker color. It was very much giving dark academia vibes~ Their bar was open and large for everyone to view the bartenders make the beverages. The top shelves were lined with Erlenmeyer flasks, and they also had a rotary evaporator. I think this shows that there is a lot of science behind the drinks they are making, and they go beyond the norm. I ordered the District 5, which consisted of cachaca, coconut milk, ube, whole egg, and strawberry. I also got the T. Y. Munson, which contained cognac, bourbon, apple, absinthe, caramelized tea, cherry bar, and grapes. The District 5 came with small popping bubbles, and it was a fun drink and was coconuty. The T. Y. Munson was on the "Indulgence" side of the menu and was pricier and was an experience. It was smoked and came with a bunch of grapes. Both drinks were strong, so if you're a lighweight like me, this will be the bang for your buck! Overall, I think the bar is unique and a perfect place for an intimate date or for you to experience drinks made by people who know the craft well!

What a great cocktail experience! 5/5 highly recommended! It's a very dark and intimate place with unique drinks. It seems as they consistently change their menu so it was hard making a decision solely from pictures on Yelp & Instagram. We also had a few of their small places that were really good. My favorite part was when the menu lit up when you opened them. How cool is that lol

First and foremost, I have to start out by asking a few hypothetical questions.. When arriving at diversion's cocktails, will you feel like this is a sketchy place? Most likely.. Will you second guess this spot because it's in the most random area of Houston? 100%, yes. Yelpers, please hear me.. we live for gems like this! Somewhat sketchy exterior unknowing what the inside holds... Well, let me tell yall somethin'.. you'll be missing out on the very experience we search for in these streets! Right when you open the door, you feel as if you are in some sort of Narnia like place because everything changes all at once from a super sketchy random building to a dim lit, amazingly boujy bar that gives an extreme sense of intimacy and class. I was so glad I didn't wear my "don't be self conchas" shirt and ripped jeans. Me and my friend immediately loved it and sat at the bar. Please note that you have to actually make reservations to sit at the bar and be hosted by the mixologist, who is super well rounded when it comes to liquor. It's so interesting because it's basically like watching scientists work with chemicals. Intricately thought out, and each drink made with a lot of passion. I started out with the monsoon. I can't even begin to describe it, but if you like that little kick of spice, I would go for it. It's not overwhelming.. more so complimenting. Then I had heavy on the hail. Somewhat set up like an old fashion, but the flavors were very subtle and also very complimenting. We didn't go for any of the super fancy ones only because they looked on the bigger side, and we still wanted to head somewhere else after. After seeing someone get a drink that lit up into flames, I definitely want to go back and experience it! Every single myxologist is super informative and knowledgeable about everything. They are all definitely masters at their craft. Prices are not cheap, but the experience is so worth it. Another hypothetical question.. would I typically recommend going into shady buildings? Probably not.. Even though now that I think about it, I do this quite often. In this case, I 100% recommend doing so. Maybe just make sure you have the right place. I'm definitely excited about coming back and trying some more awesome mixed drinks.

Ever since we visited the Aviary in Chicago, we've been on the hunt for good creative cocktails in Houston and we thought we'd find it here.First impression is that the place is in a very unassuming spot. The surrounding area is a little rough. I wouldn't expect this place to be here if I was just driving by, but I guess this kinda adds to the speakeasy feel. You walk in in and you're met with dim lights, a nice looking bar - definitely a relaxing feel. The bar was relatively empty when we walked in. We were promptly greeted by our server. The menu has a light which is blinding at first, but fitting for the place since it's dark. They have a lamp you can turn on if you needed anything which I thought was a nice idea. Since I wanted to try something creative, I ordered from the "indulgence" side of the menu ($30-$70 range) and got the T.Y. Munson for $35.We were a party of 5 and drinks came one by one. My drink was served on a little elevated wooden platter with a dome cover to keep the smoke in, and the server opened the dome to let all the Smokey goodness out. The drink was definitely smokey, bold and the presentation was theatrical. Now why 3 stars? Throughout our time there the place got full. There was only one server running around the place looking like a chicken with her head cut off. All of our cocktails arrived relatively quick except for my friend's beer, the easiest thing to probably serve in that place. My sister in law ordered another cocktail later on but never arrived after 25 minutes, so we asked to cancel it instead. Overall, the experience didn't match the price tag. They may have focused more on the theatrics (decor, nice bathroom etc) rather than the overall customer experience. I would have been willing to pay for an expensive drink or two if the service was at least prompt throughout our time there. So unfortunate since the drinks were not bad. Sad to say we probably won't return.

Intro: I stopped by Diversion Cocktails with two friends on a Friday evening. We made a reservation a few weeks prior just in case. Located in The Heights, they have their own lot so parking won't be an issue. While not a speakeasy, Diversion Cocktails has speakeasy vibes and puts a large emphasis on craft cocktails. Ambiance (4.5/5): Don't judge a book by its cover. Diversion doesn't seem like much from the outside as the exterior looks like your run-of-the-mill bar. And it's not in the greatest part of The Heights. However, once you walk in, all of that changes. Diversion is elegant. Dimly lit. With both table seating, bar seating, and lounge seating. Beautiful all-around. If there are a lot of people there while you are, it can get pretty loud. Drinks (5/5): Now this is what you've been waiting for! The creativity of the drinks at Diversion Cocktail exceeds anywhere else I've seen in Houston. We're talking about some seriously sophisticated drinks. I started out with the Luau as I'm a sucker for tropical/tiki drinks. The presentation of this drink was exceptional. It's served in a tiki glass with edible foam. The tiki glass is set on a platter that resembles the beach. There is edible sand and decorations like seashells. Talk about going above and beyond! For my second cocktail, I went with the Pho Cup'd (get it?!). I didn't think it was possible but the presentation here exceeds the Luau as the cocktail is prepared tableside (sneak peek: there's some flambe action involved). A pho cocktail with pho broth and some of the various toppings you see with pho?! This was a first for me. It's a strong drink and unlike anything I've ever had before. My third cocktail was less elaborate but had a frozen pop as part of it. Also really cool!Food (N/A): While they have small bites, I was on a liquid diet while I was there. Overall: The drinks are expensive. Especially the super creative ones. But you're paying for the experience. It's not somewhere I'd feel comfortable going often but on occasion or for a special occasion, definitely! You won't find cocktails like this anywhere else in Houston.
