We had heard about the excellence of the chicken fried steak and were not disappointed. The texas size was plenty for the two of us. Our sides were mashed potatos and fried okra. Both were excellent. We had the American sampler as our appetizer. The fried pickles were tough and the fried green tomatos were acceptable but pretty mediocre; however the fried mushrooms were very good (I typically don't like mushrooms).Prices were reasonable for the amount.

Staff were super friendly. I was looking for a local eatery and did not know this was a chain restaurant. I ordered the choose your own items. I had chicken fried steak, roasted turkey breast, mashed potatoes, green beans, with gravy on the side and it came with stuffing and cranberry sauce. WOW!! and it was very affordable. The chicken fried steak was so good. Everything had good flavor and I didn't have to add salt or Tabasco. . . lol. . . I had cherry cobbler. . . always have dessert first. . . my cobbler was missing the yummy breading. It was cherry and very tart. Wanted it a little warmer but it was ok. We received rolls with our meal and they looked like rolls from Texas Roadhouse and I was expecting 'that' flavor. They were not sweet, not salty. They were slightly buttered, soft and warm. I would visit again to try something else.

This place has always been a favorite for my mom. Today I took her here for her usual chicken fried chicken with Jalapeño gravy, if you haven't tried the gravy it is a must! We were blessed to sit in Ashley's section, she is the kindest person I've met this month! Very friendly, patient with my mom and you can tell she loves her job. Stop in and request her section, you will be very pleased with her beauty- inside and out! The food has always been great at this location, huge shout out to the chef!

Times have changed and there are things at BEP that I miss. They no longer serve cornbread and honey, they no longer have a full waitstaff.However, they still have nice rolls, daily specials, many comfort food offerings, good size servings, and servers who are friendly and hardworking. It's a great place to go for old fashioned, home style food that is reasonably priced.

Went to Black Eyed Pea on 1st & Wadsworth on Monday afternoon. My husband asked if they had the beef brisket & the waitress said let me find out. The waitress came back & said they still had some, so my husband ordered it. I ordered the mushroom Swiss chicken. My husband looked at the brisket & it had a greenish tint to parts of it, so he tried to pick through it & only a little amount was barely edible! My chicken was good but the rice had a lot of almost rock hard pieces of ? rice? We each enjoyed the baked potato & I had a dinner salad & it was good. I gave my husband some of my chicken because he couldn't really eat the brisket. Our waitress Sandra was very very nice & when we told her about the brisket & the rice she apologized & went & got the assistant manager Ryan. Ryan quickly came out & we explained what was going on & he was very nice & very professional & apologized for the mishaps & comped our meals.We found out that Black Eyed Pea had taken the brisket off of the menu, so not sure how they were able to give it to a customer, but? Still not sure why I had the hard inedible pieces of rice ? Anyhow, Sandra & Ryan were really great & hopefully this was a one time bad experience, as usually BEP is very good.
