I tried this place off of TooGoodToGo since it wasn't too far off the beaten the track for me and the timing fit my schedule. I wouldn't typically walk into a place so local but not my neighborhood but it certainly doesn't mean that I shouldn't. Thank god for online reviews I can read and/or a modern, relevant, sustainable app. I can go in w a more open mind or take a chance on a places that might not normally get my attention because I am not in that particular neighborhood or with local, homey places, it can be hit or miss. This was definitely a hit for me. What I randomly got today is just like their background pic on the TooGoodToGo app. The fried catfish? might've been a tad salty, but not overly so. Staff is friendly but I definitely stuck out as a nerd. You know just by me entering the restaurant that I am either not local to the neighborhood or I just moved in. This neighborhood has become more diverse, but does Deborah's get the chance it deserves from its own residents' diversity rather than just on cliques or niches? My random platter is a typical soul food offering and I somehow just "know" even though I am by no means an expert on soul food. This classic meal was also well done. I would go back.

I've walked by this place hundreds of times over the years and finally went inside this week. I thought it was just a dessert place but was pleasantly surprised they had soul food meals too. I got a platter of chicken, cabbage, and rice - and it was extremely tasty. I mixed the rice and cabbage together bc I love a good mix and it was awesome. I also got a slice of apple pie and it was out of this world good.

Why does it take 45 minutes for my order of meatloaf to be ready? Because it's made from scratch just for whomever orders it. Always worth the wait.Food is fresh, true home cooking with all good sides and deserts (especially when I want a peach cobbler fix). Just be aware that pork is not on the menu.I've been in Brewerytown nearly 10 years and I am so happy that Deborahs Kitchen has lasted and seems to be thriving.

Their Mac and cheese was very bland, tasteless wasn't impressed. The only Thing i enjoyed was the corn cause you can't mess that up. Whiting fish had no taste either.

Someone told me about this place yesterday at work, and I thought I would stop by and pick something up for lunch today. This is basically a take out place, no seating for eating just for waiting for your pick up. There is nothing to see as far as decor or what have you. But you should just be there for the food! The menu has lots of platters, ranging from short ribs, flounder, chicken (breast, legs or wings), meatloaf, etc. There are sandwiches of fish, and chicken. Some salads, lots of sides and puddings, pies and cakes. This was a good mix of things I thought.I got the turkey chop platter. This is basically a turkey breast seasoned and lightly fried. This I got with potato salad and collard greens. This was really good stuff. The chop wasn't greasy and was very juicy. I haven't had turkey like that before, so it was great. The greens were as to be expected, no surprise eh. However the potato salad was really really good. This was far different from my mom's which I think is 'da bomb.' It wasn't filled with mayo. It had its own distinct taste, that I couldn't really describe, but I waxed that off in no time, it was that good. The location isn't the greatest, but with good food like this, and the monstruous portions, at a good price; I will definitely be heading over to Deborah's more often. One advice is to call ahead (once you have been there before and have gotten a menu to take home).Okay...I'm going to take a nap, I ate so much, I think I have a food baby!

I do enjoy the food but for the price of it they definitely don't give enough and Thts a big deal for me and not to mention the mac and cheese is a extra not included in the platters which come with 2 vegetables something I can't seem to understand so after spending 14$ on a large platter I was still hungry

I think I like this place so much just because it is much, much better than Butter's down the street. My man likes the turkey. Collards are average. The corn is damn addictive and I love the potato salad. They are beyond slow. So call ahead or give yourself a good amount of time even for the most simple order to be filled. (I feel like cornbread to go would take them 10 minutes just to ring it up.)

YES!!! I love everything about the food and will continue to get lunch and dinner from the establishment as long as it's standing. If you're ever on Girard, I suggest you stop in for a bite to eat.

I ordered baked chicken & got fried chicken. We placed a pick up order and the workers would NOT LET US LEAVE with our food. I ordered on the grubhub website. My bf explained that he is NOT A DELIVERY DRIVER and that there is nothing for us to swipe & showed that the food is already paid for! They don't even know how to use the grubhub app. This went on close to 15 min. and this is AFTER waiting 45min for food. Never again.
