"Consistently good food and service. It's not fine dining by any means but I can always count on a good, solid, fresh, hot, tasty meal. The menu is limited which I think is a good thing. That way they can concentrate on cooking what they know and do best. I like the chicken fried steak, fried catfish, and the BBQ Poorboys but my favorite is the shrimp plate. The shrimp are fresh not Cisco. They are plump enough to actually bite through without a ton of breading. You know you are eating shrimp. My favorite sides are fried okra and potato salad. Their side salad is wilted some times. For dessert their homemade cake slices are good. They are tall but thin which is fine because they are so rich. With the sad state of shrimp in this town and seafood in general, Nolan's is actually the best there is. If I want excellent, have extra cash, and am up to a road trip, I go to King's Inn."

"We moved back to TX after 20 years. We had been spoiled with incredible fried chicken in FL and VA. We got here and couldn't find ANYTHING. Until my SIL told me they liked Pete's Chicken. "Really like their food. Get the Steak Fingers. They take the steak for Chicken Fried Steak cut it in to strips and THAT is you fingers. The Taiton Chicken is very good and you need to try the Pork Chops. Have not had a bad meal there. They have beer and a limited selection of wine. I prefer the Matagorda wine. Taiton is just a spot on Hiway 71 with a Catholic Church, a dance hall, a beer joint,and this cafe. If you find yourself going through Taiton I recommend you stop."

"3? Only 3? Yes, but with a strong caveat....My wife were looking forward to sharing the award-winning chicken fried steak while on our Texas trip. The beef was, admittedly, some of the best cooked and quality meat served to me this way. The corn, while canned, was hot, buttery, and a huge portion. The mash was good, but....HOW CAN YOU GIVE US LUKEWARM GRAVY ON YOUR AWARD WINNING DISH??? The gravy should be just as hot as the meat and veg. The fried zucchini was actually quite nice.Our servers were.....real. Like, keeping it real, Texas style. Drinks were refilled, and we genuinely felt taken care of.Would recommend, but for the love of Davy Crockett, heat up your gravy!!!!"

"El Portón has quickly become our go to spot for tacos and Mexican food. It's a great hometown restaurant, just a couple blocks east of the expressway on University Dr. I have been four times, and each time the quality of the food and service has been excellent. The freshly made tortillas are delicious. They offer a variety of tacos, hamburgers and seafood. They have the usual tacos of bistec, fajita, trompo (al pastor), and chicken. They also offer cabeza, tripa, fish and shrimp.Taco orders include chips and salsa, as well as delicious charro beans. I was grateful the charro beans don't have chunks of pig skin or hot dogs floating in them. There are daily specials for lunch and for dinner. I want to come on a Thursday for lunch for the enchiladas suizas! The staff has been very pleasant and efficient each time I've come. The dining room is eclectically decorated with a souvenir plate collection as well as a collection of oil lamps displayed on shelves. The atmosphere is pleasant and family oriented. There is a TV (silent when I've been). There is music (usually norteño), but not too loud. The salsa is spicy but good. I prefer the green salsa. The panchos have shredded fajita meat and are great. I also love the loaded chicken tostadas! Awesome! My favorite tacos are the Tacos Monterrey which include avocado and grated white Mexican cheese (queso fresco). My wife loves the tacos de bistec and the papas (potatoes). The parking lot is limited but nice. I've not seen the bathrooms, but the dining area is always spotless. So I would think their cleanliness extends there too. We've only ordered take out as it's close to home, but I would enjoy dining in and believe you will also."

"If you need to feed a lot of people, there is no better option than Red River's fajita packs. It's as if you cooked a ton of delicious Mexican food for your friends and family, except you didn't have to do any of the work. And in 45 minutes or so, juicy, flavorful meat (chicken and steak - both outstanding), onions and peppers, guacamole, salsa, queso, chips, the best beans, rice, incredible fresh flour tortillas and whatever else you want to add on just shows up at your door, ready to go. The price is right, the food is delicious, and you can add on Mexican butter. I don't know what makes the Mexican butter Mexican, or what you're meant to use it for, but we got it, and no one was sad. Also, if you don't finish it you can use it to dip crawfish later on, and it's the best."

After placing our order, we were offered to dine in at the adjacent building that does have AC. We were taking our food to go, so it made no difference to us. They also offer drive through service. For those dining in, simply sit and the food comes to you. I liked that they had complementary shelled peanuts. I ordered a large loaded baked potato. Brisket was great. I also ordered a small mack n cheese to taste it. Didn't care for the mac n cheese. I will definitely be coming back to try more things from their large menu choices."

"2/14/2025, found this place through Facebook on their valentine's day special. We booked online which was very easy. The place when we first walk in I was kind of nervous due to the look of a sports bar theme. Then, our waiter came over and I asked him about the wine. He did tell me that he did not know much about the wine. He did go and look at the wine and told me it was Italian wine. I ordered a bottle. We looked at the special menu and I chose the lobster dumplings, and my boyfriend got the summer roll. I can say the summer rolls were great but the lobster ravioli looked good too and you can tell it was made from scratch, but you can tell they used frozen lobsters instead of fresh. The salads that came out were delicious. Next is the main course. We had the 48 oz steak. I am a person no matter what kind of steak it is I want Heinz 57 sauce, I have always been this way. I tried the steak with the cowboy butter and it was great. Perfectly cooked. I can say our waiter Tanner was a great waiter and was on top of everything. But the floor manager came over and you could tell he was drunk and left a bad impression about how management staff runs the restaurant. I was recommended that Tanner became the manager. He was good with the other wait staff and customers. Fired the floor manager!"

"If you like seafood eat here. There are SO many options you are sure to find something you like. I rarely post on a first visit but I am not likely to return to Edna any time soon. I almost didn't come here because I didn't think the posted pictures were very appealing. But against my judgement I came and I must say I enjoyed my visit. I ordered the lunch special of grilled flounder with came with dirty rice and staemed veggies. You also get a choice of salad or coleslaw. I like to try different coleslaws and found this one to be drowning in mayo. I posted my own photos that show the spices in which the fish is grilled. It was almost too salty, but I ate it with lemon and/or coleslaw. The rice has meat in it-ground beef. The veggies were perfectly steamed. I do recommend this restaurant. I came on a cold day at lunchtime. The locals do seem to enjoy this place and for good reason. The servers are friendly and helpful and aren't afraid to make recommendations or confirm with the cook if they don't have an answer as to how something is cooked."

"The atmosphere was fun. Our server was pretty good for how busy they were. I ordered the catfish dinner and hubby ordered the plate that had a little of everything. For the most part, the food was good. The catfish was good, but a little bland. You couldn't eat the fries that came with it unless you like drinking grease, but overall I think the fish made up for it. The Hubs said his was good the étouffée was really great, but the gumbo was not. You would think a place with gumbo in the name would be better. Overall, I would eat here again and enjoy it. You can't have things perfect every single time."

"This place felt like the epitome of a Texas roadside taqueria. The service was very efficient, and we got our food super fast for our party of 16. I had the Mexican Plate, which was a huge portion for a good price. It tasted really good, but some of my friends noted that the presentation made the food look unappetizing. There were so many items on the menu, and they all looked pretty much the same, so I think they should scale it down because the vast number of options is overwhelming and offputting. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean."
