This warm and flavorful hidden gem of a restaurant is part of a shopping center at Old McHenry and Route 22 in Long Grove called Long Grove Commons. However the best entrance is west of that intersection, about 1/4 mile west, along Route 22.This restaurant serves delectable Indian cuisine, which we enjoyed immensely. For appetizers, the tomato soup has anise seasoning (light) and complex flavors for the roasted tomatoes. Appetizer was very spicy but excellent: Chicken 65 from Chennai. Good-sized appetizer, could feed 3-4 people so that you still have room for generous dinner portions. For the main course I had the Hyderabadi Eggplant. Several tiny eggplants softened to perfection in the hot tandoor (stone oven), where it and most dishes and breads and such are cooked, and all hot to the table. For his entree, my husband had the Chicken Tikka, with two delicious sauces. To really fill out our table, we ordered Tandoor Bread Selections, which was huge but we had lots for take home: Sixteen quarter round breads, four each of garlic, cilantro, plain and buttered.Service was attentive but neither rushed nor lax. We will be back. Note: This restaurant also has buffet lunches Monday thru Friday and on Saturdays.Lovely place, a true hidden gem!Recommend!

This Indian restaurant has consistently impressed me during my two visits. The ambiance is pleasant, creating a welcoming atmosphere. On both occasions, the food lived up to expectations, earning it a solid four stars. During my latest visit, our order included the mix Veg platter, Dal Makhani, butter chicken, Aloo gobhi, and a delightful bread basket. Each dish showcased authentic flavors, demonstrating the chef's skill and attention to detail. The mix of spices in the curry dishes was well-balanced, and the Aloo gobhi had a comforting homestyle touch. To complement the meal, we ordered chai, which was aromatic and comforting, and gajar halwa, a sweet ending to the dining experience. The menu variety ensures there's something for everyone, and the staff was attentive without being intrusive. While not reaching the pinnacle of a five-star rating, this restaurant consistently delivers enjoyable dining experiences with its delectable Indian cuisine. I look forward to returning for another satisfying meal.

ClayOven Tandoor provides a serene dining experience with a tranquil ambiance, perfect for a peaceful dinner. The absence of rush allows for a relaxed meal, and the prevalence of takeout orders suggests popularity. The restaurant impresses with a diverse menu, offering both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The food quality is commendable, complemented by efficient service and a clean environment. The Indian-inspired ambiance adds a cultural touch to the dining experience. However, a notable drawback is the staff's lack of professional appearance; waiters neglect to tie their hair and lack proper uniforms, detracting from an otherwise positive impression. Despite this, the overall combination of good food, attentive service, and a calming atmosphere makes ClayOven Tandoor a worthwhile choice for those seeking a satisfying Indian dining experience.

Beware - This place is very run-down. There's a large area of water damage on the dining room ceiling that clearly has a mold issue above. THERE IS NO LONGER A BUFFET. We drove 35 mins to get there because their website, Yelp and Fb page claim they offer a lunch buffet Tues-Sun. I took a screenshot. When we asked about the buffet that's posted on their website, the waiter brushed us off, and walked away from our table. Nice. The prices are very high, and considering the appearance of the dining room ceiling, I wonder about sanitation in the kitchen, behind closed doors. There were only 4 people dining while we were there. I took photos of the current menu. No idea if it's up to date.

I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. It's the best Indian food I've had in my life. One big thing though, if you order through UberEats, the menu is missing some items, so you cannot get access to the full menu. I assume this is a glitch on their part or maybe even UberEats part. For example, the delicious Aloo Cashew Rolls are not listed on UberEats, but they are available on the restaurant's website. So if you want delivery via UberEats, just know you cannot get the full menu, some items are missing. A big bummer because delivery is the most convenient. I hope the restaurant updates their menu on UberEats so there are no more missing items.

The food at this place was fantastic! We had butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, Aloo Gobhi, and garlic naan bread. Hands down, this was the best butter chicken we have ever had!! The chicken tikka masala was also perfect, but I, personally, couldn't get enough of the butter chicken! The Aloo Gobhi was savory, perfectly spiced, and an excellent complement to the chicken dishes. Garlic naan is a staple for me at Indian restaurants, and they didn't disappoint. It had just the right amount of garlic and seasoning so as not to overpower the flavors of the meal. The service was friendly and fast. There were only 2 of us at our table, and we went at 7 pm on a Friday night. We were seated immediately and had our main course served to us very quickly. We never had to wait long for any part of the meal. The PRICE lies somewhere between Seasons 52 and Weber Grill but depends A LOT on how many dishes you want to try. Each meal comes with rice for the table and while you could order the butter chicken for yourself, it is more of a sharing dish. Each dish is about $20. Two smaller eaters could survive on one dish (with the rice) and a side of bread, but being average eaters and wanting to try a few different things, we ordered two mains, a vegetable dish, and a bread. There were enough leftovers for 2 lunch-size meals the next day. They even threw in extra complimentary rice and papadum when we were packaging it up. This is not a Chili's cheap meal, but it is more than worth it. The chef seems very talented, and we were happy to pay more for great food. Overall, we loved it and will be back! My son and his girlfriend are on their way there tonight to give it a try.

Let's review the Clayoven in Long Grove. I would like to start off by saying that I have visited a variety of Indian places in Illinois and also back in my home country of the United Kingdom. I have a good idea of what to expect.Food Rating: (2.5/5)Service Rating: (3.5/10)Atmosphere: (5/10)Dining options: Booth or Table- Table with a cheap paper sheet covering the table clothPrice range: $$ (average cost ~$20)We ordered the Paneer Tikka and Chili Paneer as our appetizers. The water was served at room temperature and its quality was lacking. I ordered a Coke to drink instead but was given a can and straw instead of a glass and ice. The paneer was undercooked and lacked flavor. Before I go on I would like to disclose that there was an event of some sort that took up half the restaurant. When confronted about the awful service we were told they were busy attending the event and we could have called them over. However we saw them on several occasions standing around talking while we waited for our water to be refilled and our next order to be taken. The first 20 minutes of us being there they had not served the event and were free. I work in hospitality and this place was far from restaurant standard, with McDonald's even having better people skills than the staff here. After the appetizers being mediocre at best, and the service being terrible; we ended up requesting the check and skipping the Entree and desert. I respectfully expressed my dissatisfaction and requested the check. In total I requested the check 4 times until we finally were given it with an apology of "sorry for the inconvenience". To conclude, I think this place needs to lower the prices or up the quality of their food. They need better management as the place is not staffed well, has no direction, and leaves customers unhappy and frustrated. The staff need to be better trained in hospitality or at bare minimum people skills.

When I order samosas from other restaurants, I get chutney with the order without needing to ask for it. When I got home, I found out that the samosas did not come with chutney. I called up the restaurant and was told that I did not receive any chutney for the samosas in my to-go order because I did not ask for it.

No buffet on weekday. Got lunch special, but curry is very small. We should order regular menus in stead.
