I tried carne asada, chorizo, and al pastor tacos. all the meat was dry and seasoning varied. Asada was most bland. I was happy with the tortilla and green sauce to add flavor.Friend liked his massive torta. Other friend liked his quesabirria. Consomme was meaty and savory. Horchata was very good, heavy on the cinnamon.Quality was a mixed bag but quantity for price is why I would come back. Service was very friendly.

I'm a bit late to El Primo, like 10 years late and I'm also somewhat late to the quessabirria taco sensation. And I guess it's because I'm not really into anything goat meat related. However, thankfully, their birria tacos are made with really tender beef. 23 and Me states that I'm 4.8 percent Spanish and Portuguese but I'm like Rick Bayless when it comes to a sincere passion for Mexican food. So when I stumble upon a place like El Primo - my mind gets completely blown away because this awesome place is hiding in plain site, like a serial killer in the suburbs. The service was attentive and the food was tasty, flavorful, fresh and eye popping. No pandemic, anemic portions here and our tortilla chips were freshly fried, I got an entire bowl of consommé for my tacos too. I have to come back to try other items but I will come back for these tacos. I was reminded of Northern and So. Cal eating here, they're that good Ese. Oh, I forgot my beers and it's BYOB here and that's yet another big plus. Or maybe I'll bring pre-made Margaritas next time. ;)

When we moved from South Loop to Old Irving Park, we needed a new go to Mexican food spot that had great tacos for me and this is very specific, but also had alambres for my husband. This place is it for us!! We get the alambres which is steak, bacon, cheese and peppers and served with side of tortillas, rice and beans. You can make about 4-5 tacos with this dinner plate for $12.99. The taco dinner comes with 3 tacos, rice and beans for $9.99. You also get red and green salsas on the side. The green is a little spicier and red is classic FRESH tomato salsa. Order over the phone and your pick up order will be ready in 10-15 minutes!

Haven't had a Torta for a very long time. For a small taqueria, I expected counter service. But they take your order at your table and deliver it without needing to pick it up yourself. It was not very busy, but there were still quite a few people there. Taqueria El Primo does not have a big staff, and they make everything to order. So, it took a little longer than I expected to be served, but the quality of the food was outstanding. Rather than rice and beans, I had their fries. Very good. Way too much food - food coma afterwards.I was very pleased and will be back.

There are some many things to like about this restaurant! First, you can choose corn or flour tortillas. I love the corn but the kids like flour! Next, I like how they don't overcharge you for adding gringo standards like lettuce and tomatoes . The chicken tacos were all white meat and look good. The tacos were large and had lots of toppings, they weren't cheap with the avocado ! My only complaint was with the red meats. I agree with other reviews that The steak is more like pot roast , the pastor lacks flavor. It was still good but I was disappointed in the meat . I'll definitely give them another shot , maybe an off day

I just moved around the corner from this taqueria and the food is awesome! I called ahead at lunch to pick up some tacos while my parents were visiting and they were ready by the time I walked over. The al pastor were my favorite, really tasty! Rice and beans are solid too, can't wait to try more of the menu. Everyone inside was friendly and the service was fast despite quite a few people picking up lunch. It's a smaller place but cute inside, we'll have to eat in soon!
