As someone who made the trek from Naperville, I'd heard whispers about this hidden gem, Kaido Sushi, tucked away in a strip mall that's seen better days. Naturally, I had to see if the hype was real--and let me tell you, it's not just the soy sauce that packs a punch here.First off, don't let the strip mall exterior fool you. Sure, the place could use a facelift, but once you step inside, it's like entering a sushi lover's paradise. The ambiance is surprisingly pleasant, with a cozy vibe that immediately makes you forget you're in a place where you might also pick up dry cleaning next door. The Omsaka experience ? Oh, it's the real deal. Fresh, flavorful, and artfully presented. This is the kind of spot that makes you wonder why you're paying city prices when the 'burbs have something this good. The rolls were inventive without being gimmicky, and each bite had me contemplating whether I should move to Arlington Heights just to be closer to this place. If you're a sushi enthusiast, Kaido is a must-try. Just be prepared to look past the strip mall surroundings--because once you taste what's on the inside, you'll realize this spot is truly a hidden gem in the suburbs. Trust me, it's worth the drive.

Kaido Sushi is located in a non-descript strip mall with plenty of parking, in the Village of Arlington Heights. It was recently ranked #37 in Yelp's top 100 sushi spots 2024, and since it was only 15 minutes away from where we were staying, we decided to go that same day.I got a reservation for 3 on a Tuesday night, via Tock. It's a small, intimate dining space, and was about half full when we came at 7:30. Water was immediately given, and menus distributed. Much of the fish is imported from Japan, and the prices reflected it. The three of us decided to split 3 maki rolls, 2 hand rolls, and one omakase. The uni butter ($11) and miso salmon ($10) were two pieces each of sushi rice and fish wrapped in nori. The two premium rolls were the Cloud Nine ($19) and the Garlic Salmon ($19), and one normal roll of Unagi Q ($9). Each piece was tasty, but were relatively small for the price.Omakase - got the Queen size ($63) - this was the best way to eat a meal here and we would order this again, one for each person. Unfortunately with that price point, it would be difficult to eat here often. but would absolutely be worth taking a sushi lover for a special occasion, maybe even upgrading to a King or Kaidou level.Soup - Miso, lukewarm, with pieces of enoki mushrooms. packed with unami flavor.CHEF's signature three course, coming out one at a time -1 - thinly slice white fish in sauce - have seen such a dish referred to as fish carpaccio.2 - scallop with ponzu sauce (2) - served in soup spoons, it was a delicious bite for scallop lovers.3 - salmon mania (2) - the fried garlic really added texture and flavor to this dish. And the salmon just melted in your mouth.7 pieces of nigri. Tonight it was the following seven pieces of raw fish, dressed up for taste and apperance:Hotate - scallops.Mebaru - japanese rockfish. this is flown in from Japan, and is unusual in American sushi restaurants.Hirame - japanese flounder - Sake - japanese salmonChutoro - medium fat part of blue fin tuna, it is more lean than otoro, but has more fat than the common akami tuna steaks. It was the single best bite of the entire meal.Aji - mackerel - a very strong flavor, definitely only for fish lovers. I like mackerel in general, so a good choice for me.Aka ebi - sweet shrimp. My daughter said this was her best bite of the evening. The quality and choices of the fish (especially the salmon) was outstanding, and these omakase dishes really highlighted that. It was almost a waste of the fish quality to put it into maki and the very small hand rolls, where the various sauces and add-ons, which is what we experienced. Service was excellent for the entire visit. And they gave each a small complementary piece of castella cake as dessert

It was our 1st time at Kaido Sushi in Arlington Heights and we came on a Friday evening for a party of 3. I made reservations and glad I did because the restaurant is quite small. It offers a very cute and romantic ambiance, perfect for a date night or special occasion. During our visit, we ordered the Kaiso salad and four rolls. While everything we ordered was delicious and well-prepared, the pricing felt a bit high, and I left feeling I could have eaten more. The rolls were incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The standout for me was the Mad Shrimp roll, which was simply outstanding. I also really enjoyed the Hamachi Truffle, Garlic Salmon, and Orchard Maki rolls. The service at Kaido Sushi was excellent, with very attentive and friendly staff who made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, Kaido Sushi is a great spot for sushi lovers looking for a romantic and charming setting, though be prepared for a higher price point.

We drove 40 min. expecting better experience, but this place was just another American sushi place. Service was mediocre. Fish was fresh, but sushi rice was not satisfactory. The restaurant was so tiny to accommodate several groups- it became too loud for conversation. Not worth coming back.

Service was prompt and very attentive. Went for a date and it was perfect ambiance. We ordered the Queen omakase. Side note: when the waitress names the sushi by order it might have been a better tasting experience if we followed that order. But all of the food was delicious.

Kaido Sushi is a wonderful quaint restaurant that serves mostly sushi. How did my experience with their sushi offerings go? Let's find out:AmbianceThe restaurant is not a really big. There is a sushi bar you can sit at and table along the wall. Most table seem to consist of a booth ide and chairs on the opposite side. The set up seem to maximize seating but does keep your neighbor kind of close. The lighting in the restaurant was bright.ServiceThe staff was super friendly. They were pretty busy but still kept out drinks filled. The smaller space tends to make it seem like a member of the serving staff is always there but I never really felt like they were hovering over me. They were polite and explained the dishes that were brought to the table and made sure the water was filled up.FoodKing OmakazeThis came option came with miso soup, 3 chef creations and 11 pieces of nagiri sushi pick by the sushi chef.Miso soupThe miso soup had mushrooms in it. The soup had a subtle taste to it which was a little different but still pleasant. Scallop with ikuraThe scallop was placed on a soup spoon. It had some roe on top with a slice of jalapeño. It had a pleasant citrusy sauce.Hamachi CarpaccioThe hamachi sat upon some shredded apple, mango, and red onion. It was accompanied by some basil ponzu sauce. The apples, mangos, and red onion gave it a nice acidity along with a nice crunchy texture along with the meaty fish.Salmon maniaThere were salmon sashimi arranged in a rose pattern. There was a garlic Ponzi sauce and some mayo that came with the dish. The salmon tasted fresh and had little bits of fried garlic. The roe also gives a nice salty aspect to the dish. The 11 pieces of Nigiri sushi were delicious. I was recommended by the staff to eat the dish from left to right which increases the intensity of the taste. The scallop had a nice subtle taste. While on the other end, there was a shrimp. The shrimp had a nice crunch to it with a subtle char with it. All the fish tasted really fresh and was cut perfectly. Tequila maki rollThis roll had a piece of tuna and had a fresh/green taste from the cilantro. OverallKaido sushi is a wonderful sushi place. If you are in Arlington Heights and have a hankering for sushi, kaido is definitely a great place to goto.

Delicious sushi, everything tasted very fresh! I'm usually not a big tuna fan but part of the rolls here was delightful! There aren't many tables inside and we made a reservation but on a Monday night it wasn't super busy (I would recommend one for Friday/Saturday night). The service was great as well, our waitress made a sake recommendation and my husband enjoyed it!

It's interesting to analyze a restaurant after frequent visits. The quality and service here is unparalleled and consistent.I tried the omakase and it had simply the best sashimi I have ever had. It's a small, cozy place with still enough room not to be too close to others. The seating is the most comfortable of any restaurant in the world. They do have a sushi bar and it can be fun to sit there and watch as the magic happens. So, I mentioned service. Not once have I ordered and been asked, "Are you sure?" My daughter loves certain things and they indulge her. This is an excellent place for a nice night out, to impress a date, or have an elegant work dinner. Being in a strip mall, it's very unassuming from the outside. But like a clam hiding a pearl, it's worth venturing in. I recommend making a reservation as it can get full.

Thank you Kaido sushi for being the most respectful, most meticulous and caring restaurant staff my gf and I had to pleasure dining with.My gf and I came here for Valentine's Day and I'm so happy we did. I booked reservations here two months in advance cause I was so excited to try omakase at a local suburban spot. Also, it was a special meal that my boo boo deserved and so happy Kaido Sushi delivered way past my expectationsFor starters, if you do come here, please be patient. It's a smaller restaurant and they only have a few sushi chefs. It takes time to make good food so if you're too inpatient to wait for food, then you need to check yourself. the head chef (wish I got his name) is a very caring individual and is an extreme professional when it comes to his sushi. Since it was Valentine's Day, the restaurant was packed and we did have to wait awhile for each dish. However, we didn't mind. We'd be more concerned if things were rushed just to make orders. We appreciated he took his time and made sure every element of the meal was perfect. Now, I never emphasize perfection much in meals. I feel that the imperfections in cooking are beautiful in a way. But with sushi, having perfection is such a big factor and Kaido sushi hit it perfectly. From their decor in the restaurant to the presentation of the food, the staff waiting tables, cleanliness of the restaurant and everything was fantastic. As for food, 11/10. Like I wish I could give this place 6 stars because they deserve it. Every dish we got was amazing and the pictures are there to prove it. Take your time, enjoy a meal without phones with your loved ones, and enjoy perfect food with your favorite people. It's a nice way to disconnect from the outside world and just have a meal prepared by wonderful chefs and staff.Thank you Kaido sushi for making our Valentine's Day so special. You guys have yourselves some new regulars now
