Hole in the wall restaurant with authentic Chinese food. It might look unassuming and a little old, but the restaurant is clean and the servers are very kind. I love that the appetizer is free chicken skin. We usually hold family gatherings here so we order a lot of food and it takes 20-30 minutes to prepared. My go-to dishes are the salt & pepper smelt, the mapo tofu, beef lo mein, walnut shrimp, roast duck, and beef stew casserole. All of the dishes are classic Chinese dishes that will be a hit with kids and adults all alike. Love that we can order enough food for 18 people but the price is affordable.

Nice quiet restaurant. I was alone this time and wanted to try a variety of things, as the menu was very affordable. I was also working in the area for a week and wanted leftovers for lunch and dinner. The menu was extensive. Even included Filipino food. I ordered 2 egg rolls, an order of fried pot stickers, an order of crab rangoons, and sesame chicken. Hot tea was included. Boy! Everything was huge. The pot stickers were a little too thick for me and I didn't care for the texture of the meat. The rangoons seemed to be made of the same wrap as the pot stickers, which was too thick. I really enjoyed the flavor. I didn't care for the egg roll. It was too thick and I didn't like the meat. I'm used to the Rangoons and egg rolls made with egg roll wraps (thin ones). I thought the sesame chicken was made with breast meat but it was thigh meat. It was still good. Crispy and a good sauce. There was some broccoli on the plate and a side of steamed rice. There were so many things I wanted to try. . . like egg foo young, Mongolian beef, and so much more. . . Food came out fast and hot!

I will never buy food from here again. I bought 2 orders of the combination fried rice and fired smelts to go . The rice was so dry and where is the combination??? As you can you see from the picture there is barely any shrimp beef or chicken MAINLY DRY HARD RICE . The smelts were ok but a bit over seasoned with salt .

Eating here is kind of like going back in time because it looks like this restaurant hasn't changed much. It's one of the oldest restaurants in Morton Grove and is a classic Chinese American with lots of the old favorites you're familiar with. China Town Restaurant gives you a lot on your plate, except flavor. Maybe they're also using old ingredients. The prices are great which helps but not a lot though. Came at lunch and we got the only vegetarian choice. It was the Tofu With Vegetables. There was a lot of rice with it, and quite a bit of the rest as well. It's about $7 for an entree. Why it's so cheap is revealed when you eat something. Apparently they're saving on spices because the food didn't seem to have any. There was a light garlic sauce. And man it was light. The rest of the menu has meaty stuff like beef, chicken, and seafood. Basically not much of a reason for us to come again. They sucked at the one thing we can get. Best thing about this place is the classic Chinese American restaurant atmosphere. If you're looking for that then it's something you'll like about here. The food unfortunately is terrible even though it has some great prices.

TERRIBLE!!! I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN! This was my Aunt's favorite place. Must have changed owners. The food was terrible! Went there for my birthday dinner. Ended up sick. We had traditional steamed flounder. It was over cooked and did not taste fresh at all. I told the waitress and she said that was frozen and must have been frozen too long. The salt and pepper shrimp was mushy. The salt and pepper tofu was nothing I have ever experienced before. WHERE DID THEY FIND THESE COOKS FROM! SO MY BIRTHDAY PRESENT FROM THEM WAS GETTING FOOD POISONING. WE SPENT $94.00 TO GET SICK.

Overall, extremely average to slightly below average Chinese food. Lunch specials do not include soda pop can and have to pay $1 extra for en eggroll and/or a spring roll upon request. Wonton soup came with 4 heavy noodles and the broth was just so-so. Nothing out of this world, very basic. Lunch specials come with pork fried rice. Lacked pork. Tasted just like brown rice only. Rice was extremely bland. Busy on a weekday during lunch. Packed parking lot. Overall just okay if you're in the area but wouldn't try again.

This is our family go to place for any occassions.Tonight for our Chinese New Year Dinner. We had:Potstickers - they have fried and steamed. We ordered both. I do prefer the steamed one but i'm not super fond of potstickers.Whole Steamed fish - you have a choice between Tilapia and Flounder. This was cooked perfectly. I am not a fish person but I did like this. Its clean and cooked perfectly and its not fishy if u know what i mean. Seafood Hot and Sour Soup. This is one of my favorite and theirs is one of the good ones so far.Egg Drop Soup. This is nothing special. Its the same as everyone elses.PanFried Noodles. This is my favorite kind of noodles. Tonight we had the Pork BBQ one. But their Seafood is worth a try as well.Eight Treasures Tofu Casserole. This is a first for us. And surprisingly I liked it. It packed with tofu squid chicken and some veggies. It has a brown sauce. Not super saucy but just right to coat everything. And the best of all they give free chicken skin. Depending on how much you order of course. But just ask.

I ordered the fish fillet and Chinese broccoli chow fun for take out.I would say it's okay. The sauce had decent flavor to it and wasn't heavy or too thick. I do wish there was more because I did want the noodles to be coated more in the sauce.I really like chow fun noodles in general, and these were ok, but a little disappointing because so much of it was still stuck together and I could just taste the unseasoned kinda doughy noodles. I was able to separate some of it and drench them in the sauce though. The fish was pretty good. Nothing special, but they were battered well and cooked well too. There was a decent amount of fish in the dish, so that made me happy :)Overall, I've definitely had better fish and broccoli chow fun, but this satisfied my craving for it. I would go back and try a couple other things, so we'll see how those dishes are!

Great food. Don't go for the ambiance, unless you are into a "well seasoned" family owned Chinese restaurant feel.
