Met my brother, his wife, and my sister for a late lunch on Sunday here at the China Chef. My girlfriend and I arrived 1st and the place was about 75% full at 4:00 on a Sunday. We were greeted by a friendly and obviously hard working guy who asked us if we would want a table or booth. My girlfriend said table, but I said BOOTH ...... So after being shown to our table, we were quickly served piping hot tea as we watched the rest of our party arrive. We all had egg rolls (tried both regular with meat and shrimp and vegetable) which were hot, fat, aromatic, and crispy as a dried leaf. They've got everything in them including the peanut butter. Man'o man were they good! Do not pass up the egg rolls. Our waiter was a middle aged gentleman with a fantastic sense of humor that complemented his attentiveness and fast pace, can't say enough about how good he was. I know I'm preaching to the choir when I say a great meal becomes a phenomenal meal when the server is great. And that was the case at China Chef. I had General Tso's Chicken (ordered non spicy), and is was bombdiggity. I got a huge portion of crispy and flavorful, deep fried, bite size pieces with an awesome sauce. My brother had Chow Mein that he said was "as good as I've ever gotten." Although, my bro is an egg roll connoisseur and he was in love. He ordered a few to take home. The girls had beef with peapods and they all gave thumb's up. Prices are reasonable, atmosphere was old school dark wood booths with a lot of space. My sister and brother all came down from Lake Zurich, but we live about 10 min away and since we've lost faith in our favorite place (new ownership has meant bad food), girlfriend and I have a new carry out spot. Everything was great and I feel comfortable giving 5 stars to China chef. Give er a try, you won't regret it.

Food was 5/5 -- no frills just your average Chinese food. Honestly, it was a bit too bland to my taste or expectations?? Haha maybe I come from the saltier side of China?? I don't know haha but I thought it wasn't as salty as the usual Chinese food I have. Nevertheless, it was great!! Loved everything. It was authentic indeed 5/5. Also, the serving proportions were crazy generous? I was surprised.Service was amazing. Staff were friendly and super accommodating. We tipped them an additional $20 each on top of 20% tip from our bill. They deserved it. So good.Ambiance is actually great for your local authentic Chinese restaurant. Definitely cleaner and prettier than most Chinese restaurants.5/5 going back for sure. Worth ur penny.

There's is absolutely Nothing wrong with China chef. The food is fine and prices are fair. But and this But is just with me - I use to go here back in the early 80s Before they move to this location when they were on Dempster St with Art Fong ( see previous review)Now Art is long gone, the menu is the same but the dishes are not. The sweet and sour pork is heavily breaded and the meat is lean. It used to have some fat/marbling that made it extra tasty. The pata tim was drowning in sauce as opposed to be complemented by it. Antony Bourdain said consistency is the key to restaurants. Nothing last forever as they say.

It's been a long time between visits but we were craving Filipino and Chinese food. We ordered fried chicken skins, beef lo mein, and beef with ampalaya. The only thing good was the chicken skins. The person who took our order tonight we said beef with tofu. Not great. Not fatal my husband said he's eat it. But the beef in both dishes was sub par and the chowmein was made with some sort of too sweet teriyaki sauce that tasted awful. I know times are tough but I don't think we be coming back any time soon.

This used to be my all time favorite Chinese restaurant and now it has completely fallen off. My last few orders have been getting worse and worse and the last draw was when I ordered for a group of friends and everything was cold stale and lacking flavor. The egg rolls tasted like they were cooked in old burnt oil. The fried rice felt like it was sitting out for hours. I really hope they get it together and start making quality food like they used to. If I do it will be dine in so I can address any issues on the spot

I'm mirroring the suburban plight of a lack of quality Chinese restaurants outside the City. The egg drop soup was on the watery side, the sweet and sour lacked punch but *could* pass as acceptedable. The orange chicken was bland (lighter on the sauce, too, not that that was a bad thing,) I actually don't want to go into any further details on the dishes my party ordered- I think you get the gist- it's basically "meh."

Combination pan fried noodles: too much celery and zucchini no pea pods, bok choy or bean sprouts big disappointment on the other hand the egg rolls were delicious. delivery service quick. And excellent . But the cheap veggies in the pan fried noodles need to be replaced with better veggies.

This place has been a staple for my family for YEARS. When we have something to celebrate like a birthday/graduation/etc.. You can definitely find us here. Our go to favorites:Pancit Guisado -Definitely a great choice if you're looking for a noodle dish. We typically go the seafood route and this is always our favorite. Beef Fried Rice -I mean, who doesn't love some fried rice. Fried Fish -The fish is fried to perfection and the sauce is AMAZING. Definitely try this one.

I ordered several entrees. One was the China Chef platter which was horrible. everything was fried until it was dry. when I called to complain about it the manager offered a small credit. I paid much more and couldn't eat it. I will never order that again. In fact, I think I will go to another restaurant

First time customer. Our last couple of favorite Chinese restaurants have either closed or changed hands and made changes. Did online order, all food was delicious. Had a special request and had to call the restaurant. They were most helpful. Order was correct and all family members agreed we have found our new favorite Chinese restaurant!
