Charlie's BBQ & Hamburgers

Decided to try a new BBQ place tonight. Reviews were mixed but mostly good so we gave it a shot.The decor is great, outdoorsy with a lot of deer, boar, elk, etc. mounts, old saddles.And they were playing 70's disco music which we happen to like and at a reasonable level.Quick service (to be fair we were the only ones there at the time)I ordered the 3 meat plate with brisket, pulled pork, and St. Louis ribs. Sides of fried okra and potato salad.Wife ordered a brisket sandwich and sides of baked beans.The brisket was fair. It had a decent bark but from what I could tell little to no smoke ring. Flavor was okay but missing the smoke.The pulled pork was pretty tough and I didn't care much for the flavor.You get 1 rib. It was nice and tender, pulled from the bone pretty easy but again, missing smoke.The okra was amazing. Unlike many places that use frozen, pre-breaded okra this was fresh okra and fried when I ordered it. Very tasty with a nice, crunchy breading and since it wasn't frozen it had a bit of a bite (not all mushy).The potato salad was also very good. Not sure if it is house made or purchased but it was one of the better potato salads I've had.The BBQ sauce neither of us cared for. It's more of a 'Carolina' style with too much vinegar.The brisket sandwich would have been better if they toasted the bun.The baked beans I'm pretty sure were just canned beans not homemade.Price was about what you would expect from a BBQ place, we spent $40 for the meal.

Finally made it to Charlie's after living in the area for years. My daughter and I picked up some chopped brisket to put on the baked potatoes we were making for dinner. They chopped it fresh for us and it was absolutely fantastic. Charlie's doesn't ever get mentioned in the modern craft BBQ scene but this brisket was absolutely delicious.

service was great. friendly faces! BBQ sauce they have is amazing. creamed corn is...eh. mac n cheese is okay too. i got the brisket and pulled pork plate and the meats were alright. i would definitely come back to try everything else. the mushrooms and green beans looked really good. they also have jerky that i MUST get next time. over all not the worst bbq place i've been to

Finally decided to give this place a try and sadly we regret doing so. Placed a delivery order and when it arrived a portion of the order was completely missing. Strike one. Ordered the angus burger: the patty itself was decent enough with a nice flavor but the veggies were wilted and old, as if they had been sitting around in the open all day. The worst part was the bun which was obviously under-baked. That resulted in a bottom half that was so doughy that it was virtually inedible. Crisp veggies and a fresh bun are essential to a good burger and this one failed miserably. Strike two. Lastly was the sausage poboy basket arrived without the fries, which was one of the things we looked forward to as we love homemade fries. That was the just the start of the disappointment. Not only were the fries missing but the poboy itself was laughable with a plain, untoasted bun and a few paltry slices of sausage thrown in the middle. Whoever called this a "po-boy" should truly be ashamed of themselves. Strike three. Generally we try to give a new place at least two visits because we understand anyone could have an off day but there is very little here to encourage us to ever try Charlie's again. Just too many strikes first time out.

Been coming here since 2004 for lunch. Their chopped beef sandwich is delicious. In my opinion, they have best ranch dressing in town. Goes great with their French fries!

Absolutely delicious!!!We had 40 guests for a professional organization's dinner last Sunday, ACRHouston. Our guests went back for seconds and thirds for the au gratin, slaw, BBQ, and sausage!! Calls of thanks for a delicious event have kept me busy all week.The food was delivered on time very hot and it stayed hot and juicy. Wonderful experience with perfect food !

This is one of the worst bbq spots I've ever had. Everything was over cooked and took so long to chew it's better to spit out and go find something else to eat or starve. The brisket was like soft jerky you can't chew to swallow, like forever chewing gum. The chicken was so so dry it was like it was dried out from being so old and reheated. Pulled pork tastes like it came out of a can. This place is terrible.

This place does not accommodate special requests for food allergies. The staff is rude and didn't seem to care that I had already requested food to accommodate my food allergies. I would never recommend this place. So disrespectful

First and last visit. Line servers are as communicative as a fence post, resulting in having to deal with being double charged. Buffet rice cool, not even lukewarm. Ordered Special Tues Tacos. One taco ruined by watery ice cold salsa, other barely lukewarm. What was good? Soupy beans wete hot. Plate promptly served.
