If you want some great no BS Mexican food, you must try this place. They have the best gorditas!Their food menu is simple: tacos, gorditas, tortas. They also have menudo on the weekends. You won't get the rice and beans on the side like you'll see at some other places but you won't need it to love it. You will need to know a little Spanish to get by but you can get away very little, if that's intimidating then just make sure you look at the menu before visiting and it will work out fine. The parking lot can get busy but it's worth the effort. Once you enter, you'll be in the carniceria and if you look to your left, you'll see the entrance to the dining. There will be two lines, one for to-go/pick-up and another to be seated. If you decide to dine-in, you'll watch the workers make the delicious food and they'll provide you with a number when they take your order (think whataburger). They'll use this number to give you the food once it's ready but you'll need to keep this number since you'll use it to pay at the register before leaving. That's about the gist of it, make sure to try one of their aguas frescas (I personally loved the horchata) and if you have some time check out the carniceria after.

Great hidden tacos place. Its famous and known amongst hispanic, but i bet most Houstonians dont even know about this place. It is located inside a grocery store. I came around 2pm and it was super packed.I ordered 5 tacos, barbacoa, al pastor, lengua. They were all really good. Good portions and generous with meats too. Price are also really worth it.You gotta be careful, most of the workers dont speak english, so you have to carefully place your order. Food 8.5/10Service 8/10Price 8.5/10Place 7.5/10

After trying multiple "best" listed in Yelp/Google and being very disappointed, we finally discovered this diamond. I strongly encourage everyone to try the food here. If you want to true "home meal" this is the place. First, the staff is super friendly and patient. The tacos, gorditas, and aguas were excellent. We tried a variety of meats and were all exceptional. The place is simple, with no frills and rustic, but the food shines. I hope you enjoy as much as my family did.

Hadn't been here in years, like 12 years. The food is pretty good, I had a Gordita carne asada and two tacos, one barbacoa and one pierna. All of the food top notch. The service, while nice enough is very lackluster. The employees mostly have a very passive and don't really care to be here type attitude. No one was rude, but at the same time no one actually seemed to want to be courteous to the patrons. I would be back if I was in the area and craving good and very reasonably priced mexican snack food, like tacos, torta a, gorditas.

So perfect! This place is a gem. We found it years ago for lunch. Working in the area this morning I stopped in to see if they have breakfast. They do serve the entire menu starting at 7 am but no traditional breakfast items. So it was a Gordita for breakfast for me. The orange salsa is . Had to grab a 16 oz container to go. I'm so glad I found this place again. Far from home but when in the area it is a must stop.

This place is a must when I'm in Houston. It's located inside a carnicería, and only bar seating. Get ready to sit tightly with other patrons and expect a bit of a wait. The gorditas are definitely worth it. They're super delicious, as are the tacos. I didn't expect much from the tacos but they were actually very delicious. As far as Gorditas, they were all good. The chicharrón gordita is also solid but I think my favorite is al pastor. Price is super good too, about $21 for 3 gorditas, 1 taco, and 2 Mexican cokes. You must stop in for some good Mexican food.

Incredible food! The service was speedy. It is a cramped space but that didn't impede the taste of the food, so it's not a negative.

Stellar gorditas. I enjoyed the carnitas ones more than the carne asada. Can't wait to come here again

I mean come on. Houston Texas let's go man. Day 3 of university of houston bball camp. Needed some grub. I was recommended a lot of places but nothing seemed worth it? Found this spot on Yelp and knew I had something special. I arrived around 6 ish on a Tuesday and was greeted in spanish (i know minimal Spanish lol) and was taken to the counter to order. It's like a diner setting where you sit at the counter in front of all the workers and it was fantasticMy Spanish 3 knowledge carried me as I ordered 2 chicken tacos, 1 carne asada Gordita and a large limon Fresca. Ladies and gents. This was fantastic. The servers are all attentive and my order was taken so quickly. We placed the order and waited no more than 10 minutes for the food. The limon drink came out first and was as big as a big gulp. It was the best lemonade-esque drink I've ever had.My chicken tacos came with lettuce, tomato and i added green and orange salsa along with a lime. The taco was filled with juicy meat and the veggies added a nice crisp. The Gordita was sort of a quesadilla with carne asada. Circular smaller tortilla with cheese and carne asada and my goodness it was good. Juicy and crispy meet with runny cheese. If this is the best meal I eat in houston, I won't be disappointed even a little bit.Oh also. Look at menu prices . $2.20 for a taco and $4 for a Gordita is ridiculous. The drink was the most expensive thing I bought lol. I paid for my friend and I and it was $27 total. And considering I don't normally buy drinks, this could have been well under $10 a person if I played my cards right. Steal!10/10
