Their happy hour $12 pizza deal is pretty worth it! Loved the decor of the space (high ceilings and open seating areas) and the service was actually incredible! We were so well taken care of and even though the food was just okay/nothing mindblowing, the staff were so nice and made the experience so memorable! My favourite was the osso bucco! Bone marrow? Yes please!

Why 4 stars? Because I wanted some good pizza in Chicago and I got it. --- --- ---While I wish I had the stomach space for some deep dish, a big lunch had me basically not hungry at all... but I wasn't going to come to Chicago and not eat dinner! While browsing Yelp, pizza caught my eye and Canal Street was only a couple of blocks away from where I was staying, so it was a date. I'd scoured the menu ahead of time, so I was probably the lowest maintenance person my server had all night. As she walked up, I said, "I'll have the truffle pizza, please!" -- and that was that.I love bacon jam, but I couldn't decide if I loved it or just liked it on this pizza. And I did not love the thick puddle of grease that sat on top of the pie, but I did enjoy the overall experience and scarfed down the whole pie pretty quickly.

Canal Street Eatery and Market is a hidden gem in the lobby of the BMO building. I live and work nearby, so I like to stop in for coffee and sandwiches at the cafe and for happy hour at the eatery in the evenings. Service here is really fantastic. Every server, cashier, and bartender that I've had has been super friendly, very efficient, and hospitable. The happy hour menu is pretty decent with drink specials and discounted pizzas that are all good. The ambiance is also lovely. It has a lot of natural lighting and comfortable seating, which makes it a great place for everything from date night to post-work drinks to a mid-morning coffee. It is also very, very clean. Even the bathrooms are shiny! My only complaint is that the sodas are served by the can now, which is not disclosed on the menu. My server offered me a refill of Diet Coke which I accepted, but if I had known that I was going to be charged $3 a can, I would have only done the one. Overall, I think Canal Street is a lovely place to visit. I come here often and will continue to stop by!

A really pleasant surprise here. Though the atmosphere is, more-or-less, identical to Little Toasted across the street, the food there sucks and here at "Canal Street Eatery and Market" the food is fantastic. The food is so good that you could take a date here and it would be considered totally normal. A beacon of light in a part of town with some laughably low-effort food options.

Came in at 3pm on a Friday afternoon and it was quiet with lots of available seating (which is fair bc it's kinda a weird time to be eating? Lol). We were seated and attended to right away while we were still soaking in how beautiful the place was with its high ceiling, rounded archways, and fun lighting. We ordered just a few small things from their happy hours since it was before dinner time - canal cooler (yum and refreshing, highly recommend), calamari (a wee bit too salty, probably wouldn't get again), and the chamomile panna cotta (not on the HH menu but sounded so unique we had to get it. ABSOLUTELY GET IT. It's decadent and creamy with all the right notes of chamomile). Service was timely and friendly. Definitely worth checking out!!

we came here at 7pm for a girls night and it was pretty empty, the whole vibe was very corporate happy hour so I'm sure it would've been more bumping if we had come during that time frame. the decor is beautiful though! I got the potato and leek soup which was kind of gummy and very fennel forward which I didn't like but the casarecce Bolognese was good! my friends got the carbonara which I got to try and it was also good. I think overall the food is good but there are just so many amazing Italian places in Chicago I'm not sure why you would pick this one unless it was like a convenience thing. the servers were very nice and quite attentive.

I had a significant layover from one train to my next and knew I'd be hungry, but also not willing to sacrifice flavor just for convenience. Canal Street did NOT miss a beat. There was a Beet Soup special which was phenomenal. I love roasted beets and while this had a lot of root vegetable flavor, it was not overwhelmingly "beet-y". Which was perfect. Then I knew I wanted to try the gnocchi, but was drawn to the octopus starter at the same time. My server suggested I add the octopus to my main dish as a protein. Genius. Not only did the grilled, smoky flavor of the octopus compliment the creamy flavors from the gnocchi, but the textures married one another perfectly as well. And THEN she suggested the carrots. If you're eating here, please also get the carrots!!!

I love coming here for their lo-key happy hour from 3-6pm! A friend put me onto this joint earlier this summer and I am so glad she did as its now a staple in my happy hour rotation. They have $12 pizza and $8 house cocktails. The Truffle Pizza is really good as it comes with wild mushrooms and onion jam...Very good! The Canal Cooler is very good and refreshing as its basically prosecco and elderflower. The old fashioned is nice as well! Service is always on point here as the young ladies that are servers are always good to chat with if its not too busy and they know their stuff. There is inside seating at tables, booth and the bar, but I always opt to sit outside on the patio as its summertime.

Such a great experience. The servers were attentive and helpful. The ambience was relaxing, and the food was satisfying. A must have is the calamari, an essential from the Happy Hour menu (3-6pm). Also had the soppressata, also on the happy hour menu. It hit all flavor notes of sweet, spicy and salty. Their dough is also made in house, a light and airy vessel for the toppings. The only downside was the calamarata scampi, the shrimp was cooked perfectly but the pasta didn't have much flavor. I didn't taste the garlic from the description and it lacked salt (I love salt though)
