Cafe Walnut

We came here after we discovered how lame our continental breakfast was at the hotel we stayed at, and also wanted to try some drip coffee elsewhere. If you aren't from the area, the coffee shop is a bit hard to find. It is situated between older buildings and has a short and narrow downstairs entry. We entered in the obvious entry, but they have the obvious entry as their exit? I believe this entry one way and exit another is a remnant from Pandemic days. The inside was a bit bigger than imagined. As mentioned, the entry was a bit off, but when we asked if there was an upstairs, we found the sitting area to be large. The seats are not the most comfy to sit at for a long period if you have a laptop and want to work or study. The staff were very kind and helpful with answering questions we had. They had some sort of pecan dumpling that we tried but didn't like. I'd pass on it next time. The coffee was fresh and decent, but I do want to make a note here about Philadelphia coffee, and that is, it has some dusty French roast style flavor to it. I like my drip coffee full-bodied but with hints of nuts and/or fruit in it. This coffee shop and a couple of others, plus the hotels, all seemed to have that darkly burnt flavor. This coffee experience made me look forward to returning home for great coffee. As I mentioned how we came here for breakfast refuel, we were delighted with the fresh and not greasy sausage, egg, and (gooey) cheese croissant breakfast sandwich we ordered. It hit the spot and prepared us for walking Philly streets that day.

Stopped by this cute little walk down cafe to grab a quick breakfast near my site visit. What a great hole in the wall! I was greeted enthusiastically by their sweet staff and they helped explain some of the seasonal drinks and pick out their pastry recommendations. Grabbed a misugaru latte and combined it with a tasty piece of moist and fresh lemon blueberry loaf cake. A perfect sweet (but not too sweet) treat in the morning. I prefer cafes like this where I can talk to staff and build a relationship as members of the community. They're so important to keeping our neighborhoods strong!

Cafe Walnut is truly a wonderful hidden gem! I stumbled upon this cafe for lunch and enjoyed it very much! It incorporates Korean flavors with American breakfast and lunch sandwiches! For example, it'll use bulgogi or spicy pork instead of a breakfast sausage or lunch meat in a sandwich (which is a better option). They also do bibimbap bowls as well which I'll have to get next time!I ordered a bulgogi breakfast sandwich on a sesame bun and a bulgogi lunch sandwich on a croissant. Both were very good especially for the price! The bulgogi has a subtle bulgogi flavor. When I ordered the breakfast sandwich, the cheese, egg, and bagel masked the flavor of the bulgogi. I wish the bulgogi had a stronger flavor. Regardless, it's still one of the best sandwiches I've had in Philly!I will definitely be back. The cafe has plenty of seating! It has large ceilings and windows to make the space feel open. The decorated the cafe with art and Korean furnishing which makes the cafe a cool place to study. The employees taking my order were polite and they all seemed like they enjoyed working together. I will definitely be back to try more things on the menu!

I really enjoyed my experience here at Cafe Walnut. The outside of the store seems pretty unassuming ( I can see why people may have had trouble finding the store, but I didn't have any issues myself). You order downstairs, and there is a pretty spacious seating area upstairs. I liked the area a lot and found it comfortable and good to work in. I also enjoyed the latte I got. The staff was friendly! I was intrigued by their smoothies and sandwiches so the next time I come by here I'll definitely give those a try.

A nice little cafe near Washington Square. Korean and American breakfast/lunch food. Bulgogi, egg, and cheese--about as close to getting a Philly cheesesteak for breakfast, without actually getting a cheesesteak for breakfast. $0.60 credit card fee, which is mentioned on a sign at the register. Biggest downside: their storefront is confusing. They have two entrances. You wouldn't know it by looking at it, but you're supposed to use the basement entrance to get to the ordering area.

Korean style coffee shop with Korean razzle dazzle in their foods. Overall decent coffee shop. It has adequate amount of seating upstairs for small groups. I came here to study. It's not my ideal place to study since the music was kinda loud but if you bring noise cancelling headphones it could be a decent study cafe. The AC wasn't really working that well the day I went but I was okay. Food: I ordered a caramel iced coffee and a bagel with butter. Both were okay, I wasn't a big fan of the caramel here and the bagel was also just okay. I've heard good things about their bulgogi bagel though Service: staff was friendly and they knew some customers by name which was nice

Such a great find! The bulgogi lunch sandwich was delicious and pretty filling. And my matcha latte was chefs kiss. I stayed here for almost 4 hours with my friends just eating, drinking, and getting work done. Has a nice, cozy atmosphere!

My partner and I stopped by Cafe Walnut and really enjoyed our little pit stop for a snack here. The interior is way bigger than you would expect on the outside, you order your food and drinks downstairs and then can take it all upstairs to the spacious seating area to enjoy. I really wanted to try their samgak gimbap, so we got one of each of their two remaining flavors (they sell a limited amount a day and when they're sold out, they're sold out for that day) and it was absolutely heaven. The filling (we got tuna and chicken if I remember correctly) was so incredibly good!! Sometimes with samgak gimbap (onigiri) the filling can be a little sparse, but that was definitely not the issue here. Every bite was enjoyable. We also got drinks (I got a smoothie and my partner got a matcha drink) and they really hit the spot.Would absolutely recommend, it's a perfect spot to hang out with a friend, enjoy the amazing art upstairs and have a delicious snack and other refreshments and will absolutely be back.

some of their tables are wobbly but overall good place to hangout. A small amount of seating and a few outlets.misugaru latte is super yum. Food also is good from the few items I've had so farHard to find and accessibility is poor with the stairs down and up.
