Cafe Madeleine Bakery and Wine

It's Friday at 11:00 am and I asked for a ham and cheese croissant and the lady like we're closed then why does it say your open today u ril 3:00 pm.If you go here better call first! Very rude person!!!!

First time in Farmville, NC and I stumbled upon this bakery by accident in downtown Farmville. I must say ... this is a quaint, truly delicious French bakery. I have learned that the owner, Coleen starts her day at 1am. She is shaping and proofing the doughs and prepping for the day. The staff are there between 6:30a to 7:30a and the doors are opened at 8a. She writes the menu for the day and posts it on social media. Next, they prep for lunch which is between 11am to 2pm. At 3p, they are closed. I LOVE that everything is handmade on-site. By browsing social media; Facebook ... you can see ALL the delicious things made for that day. Keep in mind, there are daily brunch specials. The owner, Colleen, is a perfectionist, and it shows. I tried a little of everything they had left, as these pastries, quiches, tarts, and savoury danishes are quite popular, and for good reason. A true hidden gem, absolutely worth the drive. Please note this is a small space, so seating isn't guaranteed and takeout is common. But, there are a handful of tables, mostly for two. The Lanoka coffee beans used at Cafe Madeleine are locally roasted in Farmville and the espresso drinks are delicious. The barista did warn me that the espresso machine is entirely manual ( rather than somewhat automated, like Sbux (oh but tastes so much better!), so lattes, etc, do take a few minutes. Order at the counter. Sweet little downtown location and there's street parking. I highly, recommend Café Madeleine.

Incredible food, great atmosphere. You won't be disappointed. Found this treasure on a friends Facebook page. Will be coming back again and again.

Great food. Highly recommend Loaded club croissant and rotini pasta salad. I called in about an hour after lunch service began and the pasta salad was gone. It really is that good. Counter service was great and swift. Owner was tending to better clients so I didn't get a greeting, but.. priorities. Would also highly recommend macrons. Always a hit with my daughter. Chilled wine seems to no longer be available. However, there is a small selection of whites and reds on offer.

I had the loaded club sandwich, which is their Saturday special. It comes on an excellent croissant with a gracious plenty of meat, cheese, and pickled onions. It was served with a dill cabbage slaw that I loved but unsurprisingly my children did not. Also came with an icing-topped oatmeal cookie, which my kids did love!

The food is great, from sweets to non sweets. I only deducted a star because when I go in and order I'm usually met with a 'meh' attitude.If not for that, I'd give another star, so understand Cafe Madeline, the attitude of your employees is quite important.

We stopped in while on a trip to our niece's graduation from ECU. It was absolutely fabulous! We had the sausage gravy and biscuits, and it was just delicious. The atmosphere is beautiful and quaint. I would highly recommend!

The best chicken salad around!! The owner is friendly and so talented! Give this hidden gem a try ASAP! The vibe is chic and modern and so excited about the expansion coming soon.

Order at the counter - takeout is common. The coffee is delicious as well, but as the barista said, it is 100% manual, so it takes longer than, say, Sbux. Hours are early to mid afternoon Thursday- Sunday, and for good reason, these incredible pastries are flying off the shelves, so plan accordingly. A true gem- highly, highly recommend. We will absolutely go back, even though it's an hour away from us- totally worth the drive!
