I tried this place on a whim, looking for some good Cuban food in Miami (because there are so few great options in California...). You know the food is good when the place looks like it desperately needs a remodel. The churrasco stole the show; it was incredibly tender and flavorful. The shrimp, too, was seasoned and grilled to perfection. And, of course, moro and plantains are a must get. The service was perfectly fine. I will come again next time I'm in Miami.

This is my spot whenever I take the train to Government Center. It's been around since way back in the day and it never disappoints. Today's apperetif was red beans with rice, followed by a Cubano sandwich and lamb . The lamb sauce blew away our minds.

Probably one of the dirtiest restaurants I've ever been to. I wanted to grab a quick bite before going to the History of Miami Museum. This happened to be across the street and you can rarely go wrong with Cuban food. But this place was just appalling. Besides the restaurant not being clean there was a homeless people half asleep on the table. I can't even tell you of the food was decent because the whole ambiance made me lose my appetite.

I don't no how this place stay open , service is bad and it smell like something die there 100 years ago , the workers Basically ignore you until you into they finished doing whatever they're doing even though you're standing there waiting.Honestly if you're coming downtown to have something to eat you'll be better off eating out of a dumpster then going to this place trust me!

I really liked this place. I think the food was good and the prices reasonable. I had the vaca frita which was good, with moros, and french fries. The service was good. We did visit at around 3pm on a weekday so I'm not sure how busy this place gets during lunch, given the fact that they are located right next to Government Center Station. I'll definitely visit again.

The staff at the museum we visited suggested Cacique's for lunch when we asked about nearby restaurants. Service was good, not outstanding. Our Cuban sandwiches rated about the same as the service, good but not outstanding. I did enjoy people watching through the window as there were many people passing through the government center at that hour. Might or might not try again if I'm in the area.

It's only a few blocks from my apartment and I'd say this is one of the better economical places to eat in downtown Miami. I usually go on Sunday's for breakfast, when the place isn't so busy, because during the work weak, lunch time is pretty packed. (they're open daily i think from 7am to 7pm) The # 11 which is an egg sandwich is my favorite item off the menu, its like 5 or 6 bucks, scrambled egg, ham, cheese on Cuban bread. (i posted), the cafe con leche isn't anything to ride home about here, its pretty generic and not the best I've had, although it may have something to do with how they keep the cafe con leche already made in these big heated containers. The service is OK, it is what it is, and considering the neighborhood, the price, and the food; overall its a great spot.

As a born and raised Cuban American, Cacique's is what can be safely defined as very standard Cuban food. There is nothing special about it. The food isn't bad, but it isn't good either. I ordered a palomilla steak with moro rice and maduros (sweet plantains). Service at lunch time was slower than ideal, but it was a Friday.Bottom Line: Visit if you want Cuban food, but don't expect anything special.

This is probably the closest restaurant to the Government Metrorail Station. Or so that's the impression I got after going down the escalator outdoors and seeing this place right in front of me (a block down, by the library). So I went in - and it had the old blue-collar Cuban diner feel. Nothing to rave about.Ordered palomilla ($8.50) and lechon. Maduros were fine (it's Cuban, any place that has bad maduros is NOT Cuban). Whites were as plain as plain can be. Black beans were a bit salty (thankfully sugar could be added to make it taste better). The palomilla - SALTY! I'm sick of salty meats in many Cuban restaurants around town. I asked the waitress to take it back and bring out one that's not as salty. Her response? It's the seasoning - not the salt.Well okay, fine, she replaced my dish for the lechon. The lechon was another story. It was tender, not dried. It was flavorful, and not salty. In fact, I thought it was pretty good.Weird thing though - it wasn't in the menu. There's a pan con lechon, but I didn't order a sandwich and a sandwich didn't come out. I just got the lechon that was supposed to be in a sandwich. I'm thankful I didn't get a sandwich because I didn't feel like eating one.Kudos for the substitution. But honestly, next time I'm in downtown, I may be tempted to try another place - there's tons of other eateries around.
