It's the single best clam chowder I've had in Boston. Consistent in being rich and creamy and not watery; always loaded with clams and other ingredients; served with delicious cornbread and ready to-go in less than 5 minutes.Seriously, stop by, look at the historic loft, and get a lovely bowl of clam chowdah.

It's been open since 1826 when John Quincy Adams was President. I'm not sure it's such a privilege to dine in "America's oldest restaurant". I'll just repeat what Martin Short said to Ellen Degeneres when he appeared on her talk show once: "It's a thrill to be here. It's not only a thrill, it's an obligation." So as a tourist, I can now assert I felt obligated to eat America's oldest restaurant. Check.Jamie W and I were walking the Freedom Trail - what else? - and came upon this historic landmark. We weren't even hungry, but we felt a need to enter to see what I would've felt like as a colonist having a lunch meeting here. We were seated in one of the red patent leather booths on the main floor admiring all the early 19th century period decor they've provided on the walls and in the nooks and crannies. We ordered a couple of the $9.95 cups of the Oyster House Clam Chowder, and the soup was rich and pretty satisfying (photo: https://yelp.to/COQ1RONCFd). It came with the little packages of oyster crackers, of course, and a nice square of crumbly cornbread with butter (photo: https://yelp.to/4SGT0SzbXl). To complement the chowder, we also had the $19.95 1/2-dozen Freshly Shucked Oysters on the half shell (photo: https://yelp.to/ut6wm63WAp). Slurpy delish and vintage appropriate.FOOD - 4 stars...good standards for an oyster houseAMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...yep, they're big on the vintage decor hereSERVICE - 4 stars...a nice young server, very attentiveTOTAL - 4 stars...fulfilled our obligation to eat at America's oldest restaurant RELATED - Exploring Boston? If you get the seafood platter, it is enough for two if you have a bowl of chowder first. The waitress was very nice and kept our water glasses full. This is a very romantic restraunt. I highly recommend it for taking that special person in your life too. A lot of touristy places close by to help you walk off your meal.

Amazing calm chowder soup, thick, rich and fully of calms. Picture doesn't show the actual amount of lobster salad which was overly generous on top of a crisp Caesar salad. We sat outside on a perfect fall evening. Service was a little slow probably because we were seated off to the side of the building.

First things first I guess of this Boston series. The first place I stopped to eat at was the iconic Ye Old Union Oyster House, the oldest running restaurant in the states (operating since the 1800's). Think Daniel Webster, JFK, it had the historic vibes of the city for sure. Sat in the Freedom Trail room, super cool, lots to look at, lots of fun. It just felt different. Here's what was had. Oyster House Clam Chowder - Had to. After walking all morning, it hit the craving. Perfect balance of Broth. Rich, Velvety and Creamy, Potatoes were cooked perfectly, a fresh Brine-y taste of Clams, paired nicely with a side of house made Cornbread, it was good and hot to order! I can't speak too much on it, I didn't grow up on the dish, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't good. Definitely worth ordering. Freshly Shucked Oysters - Delicious. Can't remember what the catch was I had, but definitely fresh. All sourced locally. I believe ranging from Cape Cod, South Shore MA, West Port MA & I believe Mid Cape. For just a straight up shucked Oyster, a little drizzle of Lemon, a small dash of Cocktail Sauce, and a little dab of Horseradish, bomb! I love oysters and could've done the dozen by myself. Must try. Broiled Boston Scrod - It was a first for me. Very simple, the Cod was fresh, you have a couple of choices for sides, I chose the carrots. Cod was fresh, the Breadcrumbs added a nice texture, and the Carrots had a soft hint of sweet Glaze. Nothing over seasoned on this dish, you get what you order. Some may find it bland but depends on what flavors you're looking for. If you've never had, try it. But I'll skip it next time. Boston Baked Beans - Another must right?? Again, another dish I wasn't raised on but I know beans!! Haha And these delivered!! Some of the better ones I had there, big flavors of Pork Salt, Molasses and Brown Sugar. Hot and hot the spot. A good order for sure. If you're visiting Boston, stop by for the food, or at least the history. This marks oldest bar and oldest restaurant in America for me. I enjoyed it, hope you do too, cheers!!

Stopped in for a quick bite because we were recommended here by a family member. I had a 4:15 reservation on a Monday and still had to wait a couple minutes when we arrived. We were seated upstairs, and the service was very friendly. We each ordered a bowl of calm chowder and it was just decent. Over our trip in New England we had much better. I'm glad we didn't order a full meal, but I'm also glad we stopped to see the ambiance.

Number one that stood out was the service. They were nice and very friendly. We casually asked what the first dish was served there and she literally asked the cook and gave the answer. It was the claim chowdah! The lazy lobster was super delicious. The lobster Mac & cheese was good. The tender fried oyster was good. The lam chowder had no flavor. Very mediocre. On the other hand.. All of the side dishes we ordered was terrible. The carrot was mushy, the rice piladwas under cook (felt like eating sand), the mashed potato was lack of taste. The worst of all during our visit were the drink! We had the Boston tea party (ice tea, lemonade , vodka) was like watered down piss! The Samuel Adam lager was the same.. We couldn't finish both drinks because they were so bad.Still.. Please go here for the history. A good place with a nice vibe.

Well, let's state the obvious, sitting in and eating at Americas oldest restaurant is freaking cool!!!! I love the history here! To add to that natural high, my son gave the lobster roll a 9 out of 10 and my husband gave the clam chowder 9.37 out of 10 side note: he's easy to please, as he was ecstatic about the oyster crackers readily available On the table. I had the special which was lobster Mac. Plenty of lobster in that deliciously creamy Mac and cheese! Server was Ira, he was fantastic. All in all 10 outta 10!

If you're a tourist, this is an exciting stop. The history nerd in me enjoyed all that they tried to jam in on the walls for the historic feel. With being the oldest restaurant in America (so they claim) also comes with the grunge of a historic buildingService was solid overall. I appreciated the cornbread that came with the meal. For being an oyster house, the oyster that I had was okay. Everything was overpriced for what it was, but that's the price you pay as a tourist. I don't regret seeing it.
