I had a pretty awkward experience with one of the bartenders here a little while ago. It was a busy Saturday night. I had ordered 3 drinks for my friends and I and paid with a card. When the bartender handed me back my card and receipt, I put the card away and began signing the receipt. I didn't leave a tip on the card because I was going to give him cash. As I'm digging in my bag for my cash, the bartender leans over the counter and yells directly in my face "wooooow no tip?" It was pretty rattling to say the least. Especially when it was also incorrect. Because of this encounter I will not be going back.

Honestly the place has gone downhill. The service isn't what it used to be and the food has most definitely taken a downward turn. Several years ago when I went there there was a couple who are managing they were so extremely caustic as they were always upset with a customer. They completely change the energy of the place. Now they have a younger people really don't know what they're doing and really don't care if you have a concern as to whether or not you're enjoying yourself. As with everything else prices have risen but they are over priced for the location and like I said spoiler alert the service sucks I would not recommend this place to anyone

I love this place. Great spot to grab a beer and catchup with some friends. Always friendly service and I always leave happier than I arrived.

We couldn't drop by Davis Square without coming to somewhere that has been a institution for us for years, the formidable "PJ Ryan's!" Located about 5 to 10 minutes walk away from Davis Square, this place is your quintessential Bostonian Irish Pub! This is the perfect place to wile away a winter afternoon!When we came, we grabbed ourselves a Smithwicks and a Guinness (is it just us, or is anyone else still missing 'Guinness Blond'? What ever happened to it? Mysteries! ), and - for the first time in a long time - sat and enjoyed a Soccer game that happened to be on tv...or should we say Football The atmosphere has always been chill, whether we were grabbing drinks, having a bit to eat, or (back in the day) playing a few rounds of trivia! However, what has always drawn us here in Winter has been there fireplace - odd, we know - but we are a huge fan of a fireplace bar, and combing a low key Irish pub with the cozy winter vibes of an open flame has had us hooked for years! Heads up - it can get pretty warm in there. Bring a hoodie or wear a t-shirt under your sweater to remove a layer if need be. The vent right above the bar can blast really hot air. Terrible food and awful service the only thing that was good was when I got the check and left

Attended the SA vs Ireland RWC group stage match here. They show the rugby here which is great. Got here early but the place was packed, they had some Oktoberfest beers on special which was nice. Beer was good can't complain about that. Didn't get a chance to try the food but the Fish and Chips looked great and I am sure to try it next time. The ambiance was really something I won't forget. Being a Bok supporter in any pub in Boston you are almost always going to be outnumbered by Irish fans but everyone was well behaved and it was a fantastic environment to watch rugby. Really enjoyed my time here and will surely be back for the QFs/Semis and seeing the Boks lift the Trophy in the Final ;)

I've lived in the area for a year now. I'm a 20 year bartender/hospitality employee in the city of Boston which might be an important factor to whomever reads this. I've consistently received bad service at this place. I had heard such great things from my fellow industry friends and so I was excited when I moved to the neighborhood, being only a 17 minute walk away from this amazing local pub I hoped it would become my new "local." Sigh. The hours say till 2am and yet if you come in at 1am the bartender is visibly annoyed that a person who's paying his bills walks through the door. There's no smile, no greeting, just a dour facial expression. Why his he doing this? Maybe he's the owner? If so, perhaps close early?? Also, I heard him say after a custome asked for a drink at 1:25 "I've already cleaned everything," and the person apologized profusely even though they're paying for a service!! What is happening with the service industry?! I get it, we're like w*h*ores working for TIPs but we re working for TIPs(money that people don't have to give you if they don't feel you deserve it)and that's the idea of TIPs! Good service paid for! At the very least a "hello!"Which I've never received at this place. I've only had a feeling like I'm at a party I wasn't invited into. Which, on the bright side makes me want to be a better bartender/hospitality person to those who pay my bills! Do better. Or not and only be mediocre at your job. What a life lived! Much love.
