When in the North End walking the Freedom Trail, one can work up quite an appetite. Wanted to try all three of the cannoli candidates but honestly after 2, it was a lot! We came here first and there was a small single file line coming a little bit out the door. The line gave plenty of time to drool over everything in the pastry cases and decide what kind of cannoli I wanted to make. The treats in the pastry case are really so vast that it's hard to resist. I was only going to get 1 cannoli at each of the places but that didn't happen so neither did the third place lol. I opted for a chocolate dipped traditional ricotta cannoli with pistachios. I was doing well with temptation until I got to the register (CASH ONLY BTW) and saw the lobster tail that is filled with Chantilly cream when you order it. When in Boston, always go with the lobster tail lol. Let me tell you, that tail felt like it weighed 9 lbs, no joke!! So as far as the cannoli goes this was a solid traditional cannoli with a good smooth, tasty filling. Then we tried the lobster tail, after the arm workout to lift this thing, which was crispy and a bit messy to eat but filled to max capacity with a luscious Chantilly cream. It was so huge it literally took like 3 days of 2 people snacking on. Doing this review first, I'll give away that for this trip - Modern is winner of the cannoli challenge!!

Nut allergy warning: Seriously consider not eating here or bringing severe allergy medicine to this or any of the other cannolis locations. None of them guarantee nut allergy safety and even have signs warning against cross contamination. I generally take the smallest possible bites of a cannoli and still suffer cross contamination reactions. The things I do for a review.I brought some friends on the North Boston mini-Cannoli tour. This was our last stop, and there was a ~15 minute wait at 10:15PM on a Saturday. Inside, we were able to customize a cannoli with various shell chocolate dips, fillings, and topics. We got a chocolate chip Cannoli with ends dipped in chocolate. This was the second most expensive of the big three ($5.50 cash, and everyone basically tips the quarters so call it $6). We universally agreed that while the filling is not as rich as Mike's, the pastry is the best overall as the shell is flaky and crispy while maintaining a pretty good filling.Awesome vibe, would recommend as our favorite cannoli in North End.

Okkkkkkk... This yummy place has a lot of decadent desserts but I was on a mission to try their cannolis!!! HELLOOOOO.... My FAVORITE Cannoli place hands down in Boston!!! What a treat!!! I ordered 3 different cannolis ... 1 each of their plain, chocolate dipped and chocolate covered shells. For my filling I chose traditional ricotta and for toppings 1 each of sliced almonds, chocolate chips and pistachios!!! WOW!!!!! I sliced samples of each and shared the rest with family. Omgggg what a delicious treat!!! I enjoyed them! The shell is perfect, I enjoyed the chocolate dipped/ covered ones . It took the cannolis to another level! You can't go wrong with any of the toppings ... pistachios , chocolate chips or almond slices!! All delicious! I will be back!!!

The cannolis are real. Better than Mike's (just being honest). Their mascarpone to ricotta ration is a bit better (little more ricotta, little less sweet). But both delicious. Tip... go in the morning where you wait 5 min. Once that line starts you're standing there for an hour. Or do a food tour and skip the line. We had the mini classic.

So amazing!!! Was told by some Bostonians that the locals prefer modern pastry over across the way, Mike's, which is a touristy place. I Can atest that Modern is legit! We got one Boston cream pie cupcake, and supón recommendation a piece of chocolate mousse cake...and both were absolutely rich and decadent. Cash only (like a lot of Little Italy are cash only) do bring your bills.

Great cannoli! Line wasn't too bad, maybe 10-15 minutes from when we walked in to when we were chowing down on our treats. We bought five cannoli, two chocolate-dipped with vanilla custard and chocolate chips and three chocolate-dipped with classic ricotta filling and pistachios. The cannoli came out fast and were a bargain at about $5.50 each. Well my wife and I were able to split one whole cannoli before we tapped out. Rich, sweet, chocolatey, crispy, flaky. Great dessert. They had so many other baked good options too. Great spot for dessert.

Made to order cannolis! Super cute place, some seating inside. We got a chocolate dipped cannoli with pistachios - there aren't a ton of options like at Mike's but honestly, sometimes less is more! Our kids got an M&M cookie they loved, too.

Stood in line for 10 mins (not bad for a Friday I guess) and when it was time, I ordered a Rum Baba instead of a cannoli lol. Maybe I picked a bad dessert? Sigh. It was just not for me although it looked absolutely delicious. The rum was too strong and I couldn't have beyond 2 spoonfuls! It's a cash only place with some seating options for food. There's definitely a wait but the line moved quickly.

Chocolate Chip Cannoli (4/5): Very good cannoli with a good shell and nice filling. In the Mike's vs. Modern debate, I thought Mike's was a little better because the shell was a little more crumbly and the filling was thicker and creamier. Chocolate Covered Cheesecake (3/5): Looked amazing, but wasn't really my kind of cheesecake. The cheesecake part was light and fluffy (I prefer heavy and dense), and there was no crust on the bottom or sides. What I thought was a chocolate shell was more of a thick chocolate glaze. RATING SYSTEM5 - Great (Need to get this again)4 - Good (Would get this again)3 - Ok (Might give this another shot)2 - Not Good (Won't get this again)1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)
