Oh my word! This place is amazing - so amazing that I wish they had a location near where we live! The location is small so tables closer to each other, but the service and ambiance makes it feel cozy and warm. We made reservations which I recommend you do before hand. We started with escargots which were large, plump and garlicky. Tasty with the warm loaf of French bread they served. Hubs also wanted the steak tartare and this was THE BEST he's ever had! If it's on the menu, he'll order it so he's had a lot of steak tartares. For dinner he chose the lamb which was juicy and deliciously prepared! I ordered the Dover Sole which was buttery, flakey and fresh. The dessert was really why I chose Ma Maison (aside from the Dover Sole)! We ordered the Grand Marnier Soufflé and made the mistake of ordering just one because we were both so, so sad when we reached the bottom! We wanted more so we decided to try the chocolate soufflé. After another patient wait (because it's made fresh to order), we dove into it. It's fluffy and good, but certainly wasn't the Grand Marnier soufflé! That first soufflé was light, fluffy, sweet and pillowy. It was delicious bite after bite! I'm still thinking about it and wish I can find something even partially as good as this one at home near Chicago. When we return to Boston, this will always be our MUST dine at place for the steak tartare, Dover Sole and Grand Marnier soufflé.

This review is for the restaurant and not necessarily the food. I am from out of town and found this charming French bistro-like restaurant in Beacon Hill online. I made a future reservation and was looking forward to having dinner here for my final night in Boston. Unfortunately, we were not prepared for the traffic congestion or one-way resident only parking streets around the restaurant. I contacted the restaurant that we were running late and trying to find parking. I was told that they validated parking at the Charles Street garage for $15, which we proceeded to get to and would be at the restaurant shortly. When we arrived at the restaurant, I found the restaurant to be much smaller than anticipated, and tables were almost on top of one another. I didn't see any open tables as the diners were pretty packed in. When I checked in with the hostess, I discovered that they had given my reserved table away because I didn't show up on time. She indicated that she would have a table opened up in 20 minutes that were on dessert. Frustrated that they didn't hold my reservation and the restaurant was overpacked and hot, I declined to wait and went elsewhere. Maybe the locals are more knowledgeable on how to maneuver in the area, but the lack of empathy for an out of towner was annoying. As a frequent visitor to France, I am sorry that I was not able to experience chef Jacky Robert's spin on the French classics, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Out of towners beware!!!

Feeling French (: I would go here again if I was in the mood for French food and if I was in the Beacon Hill area of Boston. My friends and I got the cutest corner, window table. The restau' had major French vibes with the French speaking staff, small tables, smells of yummy sauces and scenes of celebration and people in deep conversations. The food was simple yet elegant and derricious!!! Bread was brought to the table. We ordered the scallop entree, quail appetizer, beet salad, French onion soup and braised short ribs. The sauces on all the dishes to die for.Definitely make a reservation if coming here. We were there on a Sunday night at 8pm and it was packed .We were celebrating someone's Burfday so we brought our own cake and they provided plating services. Ready to go Ma Maison again today!!!

All the yummy escargot!! Took my boyfriend here to celebrate his bday and we had an amazing dinner with all the bells and whistles. The restaurant is super cute and intimate. I really like the silver dishes and plates hanging on the walls and the cute snail figurines that are spread thought-out the restaurant. Since it was a special occasion we decided to get a whole bottle of French wine to share. It was very good and at a reasonable price! We wanted some appetizers and the very nice and attentive waiter suggested their butternut squash soup and we went with that. We were also super curios about the escargot in the menu because neither of us had never tried it and decided to go for it. We also wanted a small salad to share and they had a few to choose from. The soup was amazing! It was super creamy and buttery and rich and it really hit the spot especially on that rainy night. But the escargot! OMG! so good! They were literal bombs of garlic and butter in my mouth! I could of eaten a bucket of them! I would definitely get them again especially at a French restaurant. For our entrees we ordered the duck liver and duck breast. Both were very good and came with hearty sides. To close out the night we each got a coffee and since the restaurant knew it was my boyfriends bday they brought out a slice of delicious cake with a candle for him which was so nice! We will definite be treating ourselves to Ma Maison's again.

This is my second time I have gone here and they did not disappoint! The portion sizes are large, so everyone had left overs. The quality and flavor of the food was excellent. I ordered the oysters, the escargot, and the oysters. My husband ordered a beef dish and a couple of our friends ordered the coq au vin. I would definitely come back again! We went here on a Thursday night and it was packed, so highly recommend a reservation.

Everything we had was delicious. The lobster bisque soup and French onion were both good, the entrees were superb. They lost a star in the declining quality of service throughout our meal. Waiter was super friendly but the check up and follow through were infrequent and delayed. At some point even the manager stepped in to help (maybe they were short staffed). The drinks took quite a while to come and our dessert order was messed up (they did correct it after I brought it to their attention though!). The place is small and gets busy so reservations are recommended.

We just finished visiting a relative at Mass General and were looking for a lunch restaurant nearby. Look no further! Just across the road on Massachusetts is this lovely French bistro. Authentic to a T, with a wonderful lunch menu and an appealing wine selection, all wrapped in brick and decorated with classic touches. We did not have a reservation but fortunately there was a table for 2 available. We were greeted enthusiastically and seated promptly. Service was excellent throughout. The couple from Cognac next to us, speaking in French, is always a good indication that you're in the right place. We ordered a Sancerre and Rose along with escargot as a starter. Served with warm fresh bread it was a delicious start. My wife loved her smoked salmon on a croissant and I went with a traditional Croque Monsieur (ham and melted cheese). C'est magnifique! Go!

Happened upon this spot on a weekday eve, and so glad we did - wonderful French food, great service and lovely ambiance. The slow baked salmon was a thick, generous portion, and nicely cooked - it was tender and the skin was crispy. The bacon and peas added great flavor. Tomato salad was lovely with perfectly ripe tomatoes and creamy soft goat cheese. Our server was very helpful, accurate and prompt, and the space is a warm cross of french bistro and Boston. We sat inside, but they also have a cute outdoor patio area. A nice classic French spot in Beacon Hill, close to the T.

Nice restaurant with friendly, great service and the food was delicious. The seating inside is a bit tight but it wasn't super busy when we were there so it was fine. The complimentary French bread and whipped butter was good. I really enjoyed the tuna tartare as well. I was told the lentil cake was good, too.

Great value. Home style authentic french with large servings, rather than the typical micro plates tasting menu style. Cozy restaurant. It gets loud, so be aware Apps.Foie gras, escargot, steak tar tar were all good 8/10MainVeal chop. 7.5/10 would get an 8.5 but was overcooked. Had a tasty creamy mushroom sauce. The server was attentive. If they didn't overcook my veal I'd prob give a five, but four stars it is. I would come here again and probably will.
