This place is a Japanese foodie haven.Situated in the heart of Coolidge corner, Maruichi (formerly Gen Sou En) is a tranquil paradise. The market sells a wide array of Japanese snacks, tableware, and food, with an on-site counter selling fresh snacks and drinks. They have onirigi, curries, little pastries, and many teas. I tried their matcha latte and mango crepe cake which were amazing. The interior has such a peaceful design and it's a pleasure to be in while browsing.

Nice food court inside of Maruichi. The menu is extensive from desserts to onigiri. The line to order went pretty fast but the seating was packed.

Great food. Great dessert. Great ambiance. Highly recommended trying this when you're in the area. The place is unique. Self-service.

The menu is small, and everything is self-serve. Despite that, you are asked for tips when you order your food. Patrons are expected to buss their dishes (why are we asked for tips?), and the staff don't seem to clean the tables on a regular basis. Also, the floor under the tables at the front window was filthy when I ate there a few days ago.The food is ok but not particularly outstanding, and the selection of teas is very good. It is good in that it is the only food establishment in the area that has onigiri and a few other things. However, the sushi rice is blah, and some of the sushi fish contains chewy bits of connective tissue. It is not well cut. Finally, they need to streamline their ordering and payment process. During the week, people who are shopping have to wait in line to pay with people ordering food, and it can take forever.
