This place has a very casual and fun vibe. The staff greets you with a big smile. The menu is not too large but big enough to make you want to order everything! I never heard of Mexican sandwiches but glad I tried it. It was amazing! Their tacos and plantains are blasting with flavors! So glad we found this place.

So at a friends recommendation I went and tried El Pelon yesterday for lunch. I decided to go there because it's not far from my work to walk to and I was craving a burrito.I completed an online order and indicated when prompted that I had a dairy allergy. When I got back to work, which was about a 10 to 15 minute walk, I took two bites out of my burrito and realized that there was cheese in it. Of course somebody who has EOE and a dairy allergy my throat did start to bother me.I contacted El Pelon to tell them what had happened and hopefully have the incident rectify. Unfortunately, there was a slight language barrier on the phone, but the woman did tell me that she saw that I had marked off an allergen. I was informed to email the company so I did.The woman who emailed me back, decided that I did not select any allergens because all of the tickets she was able to find showed that none were selected. I informed her that perhaps there was a malfunction in the systems and that they should look into it or at least when I ordered.I was hoping for a rectification of this incident and a refund since the burrito cost me almost $15 and I had to throw it away. All I received from El Pelon was that they were right and I was wrong with no apology.I informed them that that was my first time ever coming to their restaurant and it certainly will be my last.I definitely would not recommend going there if you have an allergen because if you pre-order who knows that will happen. Also, my friend whose burrito was fine. He said it was OK and probably wouldn't go back.

Excellent hole in the wall restaurant. Very authentic and the staff were super friendly. This place is on a row of delicious small restaurant that really put passion in their food. The prices are amazing for the value because it's lower priced for higher quality food. Amazing place def going again!!

I've tried all the tacos here, and let me tell you, the fish taco is the one to go for. Honestly, the other tacos are pretty standard, like what you'd find at any taco joint, but the fish taco? It's something special. It seems like they fry the fish and then add some pickled cabbage, and that combination is absolutely fantastic. There's no fishy taste at all, and the texture is incredible. As you bite into the crispy coating and then the juicy cabbage, it feels like a flavor party in your mouth. If you're looking to try a different kind of taco, I highly recommend the fish taco here. It's easily in my top three tacos of all time!

I was feeling Mexican to night and saw that a lot of reviews said that the burrito was pretty big, so I decided to use a $5 off deal to order the beef burrito for delivery. The price was only $12.95, which was a pretty good deal, and it actually looked like a lot of the menu items were very reasonably priced. And while I wasn't too big of a fan of the burrito, I think I'd definitely try some of the other items on another night instead.Beef Burrito: This wasn't as big as some of the other reviews made it seem, but it was still a substantial amount of food. In fact, the burrito was pretty long, just not super thick. I do wish that it had more meat and vegetables, as it seemed to be mostly filled with (slightly undercooked) rice and beans, but the flavor was pretty good. The meat that was in the burrito was nicely seasoned, and it was still pretty filling with all of the rice and beans inside of it. I do wish there were some more tomatoes and lettuce, which I do realize is a strange thing to wish for. The cheese was nicely melted and added a nice touch as well. All in all, the menu has some really great items on it, and I'd absolutely try this place again because everything seems very affordable. There are a lot of options - I'd like to try the quesadillas and maybe the enchiladas. A plate is pretty reasonably priced as well (under $15), but I do not think I'd get the beef burrito again. For this particular menu item, I give a 3/5, but it is pretty rare to find a place as affordable as this with the different menu options.

Tacos was the goal so we decided El Pelón Taquería. We were lucky enought to get parking right in front. There is a nice setup outdoors but I Wish they had more indoor seating because Boston is cold outside right now. The place seemed surface clean. I had to wet napkins with water from the soda machine and wipe the table down. And under the table needed to be swept. Chicken and steak tacos were good and flavorful. One issue was that the steak was slightly overcooked so the hot sauce kinda just sat on top rather than blending in like with the chicken. They were also topped with so many ingredients, they were hard to just pick up and eat. Get the napkins ready! Tried the pork burrito. It was laden with rice beans plus the pork was dry. If it just had more salsa it would have been perfect and added a freshness to the burrito, but i wasn't spending $5 to get a side of salsa. I would go back. Prices were reasonable and the food was good for a quick filling meal. Service was okay. Overall nice place but the food is definitely too messy to eat in the car.

For a quick lunch I stopped by El Pelon. Despite the small store and limited seating, I managed to secure one barstool seat. I put in an order for the chicken burrito ($10.95) and some chips (small, $3.95).I received the chips immediately upon paying at the counter, and my burrito after 5 minutes. Note that, if you dine in, the cashier/waitress/only-front-of-store-staff-member will bring you your order instead of calling out order numbers. The chips had the thickness of proper tortilla chips. Crispy and well-salted with coarse salt, this held up on its own, even without salsa. The burrito, in contrast, arrived lukewarm. Whatever time the establishment spent in assembling the burrito evidently took away from the time and energy to maintain a baseline level of warmth in the ingredients.More egregiously, the burrito also arrived bland. I could distinguish the textures of the various ingredients - rice, beans, chicken, cheese, lettuce, etc. However, the sheer lack of seasoning and salt made the comparatively mild white cheese stand out. Somehow, even a chicken burrito from Chipotle or Anna's would have more flavor. At least, the burrito seemed tightly wrapped and only had a bit of drip at the end. My experience seems quite contradictory to the majority of reviews here. Perhaps the chicken burrito represents the lowest common denominator product, optimized for inoffensiveness. Perhaps the el guapo burrito or the daily specials would impress more. However, I doubt I will return to find out.

Fabulous food! We thoroughly enjoyed our burritos. The service is quick and friendly. The ambiance is very casual, so I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a full restaurant, but it is a great place for a quick, delicious meal!

The SO and I were feeling tacos so we decided to try El Pelón. It was...okay. We sat indoors but the store is very small and there was a constant stream of people coming in and out to pick up their takeout orders, so I was repeatedly getting blasted by the cold air. For the food, we got two of the tacos de la casa (pescado and caramelos, two tacos per order), and one of each of their regular tacos (pork, chicken, steak). The tacos de la casa are absolutely MASSIVE. I got full after eating one of those tacos. The caramelos one (grilled steak with melted cheese) was the better of the two and tasted a bit like a Philly cheesesteak. I thought it was strange though since it had a giant scoop of guac on top, literally the same amount they would put in the cup for chips and guac. The pescado was kind of bland so it wasn't my favorite. It was also so piled high with pickled red cabbage that I dumped most of it out to even get to the main fish filling. The three regular tacos were presented together and also suffered from the excess of red cabbage (and also several thick slices of cucumber - just why?). Honestly I could barely distinguish the different types of meat underneath, but they tasted decent. Overall they went insane with amount of filling. These were more like open faced burritos than tacos. It was impossible to hold them in your hand without everything dripping and falling on the table. Eventually I got fed up so I ended up using a fork and eating the food like some weird salad. We also got chips and guacamole, which were fine but nothing to write home about. I got an horchata which was pretty good. I'm guessing El Pelón gets its great reviews from the burritos only because the tacos were so weird. After reading some other reviews, many others had the same complaints. So yeah...I'd avoid the tacos here.

Honestly some of the worst tacos I've ever had, however the staff were nice. I knew walking in they wouldn't be authentic, however it wasn't 100% my chance to come here. They have cute postcards that are free, so that's something to grab.
