Hey family! So I'm not sure if y'all heard but I'm mad no one told me about this place. It kind of feels like a IYKYK type of place. This must be Jamestown's best kept secret because Black Powder Smokehouse has got it going on. I initially tried it on a Friday night as I was down the street checking out Barrel & Co. By the way it's a very nice cocktail bar and I do need to make my way back there soon. But I stopped by Black Powder and got the beef brisket and collards. I didn't eat it right away but I had it in the car and waited until I was done at the cocktail bar. After I left, my car smelled so good, I just had to take a bite before I went home. That was a huge mistake because I couldn't stop eating it. I demolished that plate. I let some time pass before I tried it again. I wanted to make sure that it was really that good and not just the liquor making it taste better.I went back about a month later and tried more items when I had a day off. I went around lunch time and I barely found a parking space. Just FYI, the parking lot is really small. You may have to park down the block and across the street. But it's totally worth it. Check out my pics below for what I tried. The beef brisket is my absolute fav. But surprisingly the hot dog is what got me. It had a wonderful snap and I'm not sure what kind of bun it's on but it was toasted and so buttery. That was by far one of the best hot dogs I've ever had. Also you can opt to get a sausage link if you'd like. Although, not pictured, the Gouda Mac and Cheese as well as the collard greens were phenomenal. And to top it off, I got excited as they had Nehi sodas. I've only had the peach but they did carry grape and strawberry. Very nostalgic for me.If you're in the area, definitely check it out. You will not be disappointed. They have some of the best beef brisket I've ever tried in the area. They do have sauces and I did like them all. But their house is probably the best one. Be sure to give them all a try.

I visited since it was on the way back to the airport from our client's site. They happened to have brisket, and I try to stop at some of the more popular bbq restaurants serving brisket outside of Texas. There were some lovely photos on Yelp which lured me in; however, they didn't end up having those particular meats the day I visited.I looked over the menu briefly and realized everything is a la carte, which I should have realized since they are an "artisan" or "craft" bbq restaurant. I ordered a sausage link, which is a jalapeño and cheese sausage with no regular sausage option, added 1/4 lb brisket, side of gouda Mac and cheese, a side of Texas toast, and pickled pickles, onions, and okra. The sausage was the first item I ate, and was immediately disappointed. It didn't taste homemade and was tightly packed. The brisket was better, but mainly cut wrong where you receive all cap (they did not ask whether I wanted moist or lean). I didn't see much of a smoke ring either. The mac and cheese was OK, nothing special. The banana pudding was also okay, nothing I would write home about. My colleague enjoyed his brisket and pork ribs, but also said he wasn't fond of the sausage. The sweet tea was extra sweet, so if you are a fan of McDonalds sweet tea, you will love theirs.

Black Powder should be better than it was.The restaurant was super clean, staff was crazy friendly, and everything was aesthetically warm and inviting. But the food was a whiff. All their sauces were too watery to even be considered a mopping sauce and three of them were more or less indistinct, I have to assume the same base with modification. The brisket was rigid and hard to the point of being more like chalky jerky than brisket, and I ended up picking out two bits of hard gristle or bone from the pulled pork.I feel like this is one of those places that had an exceptional commitment to their food at some point, but now they're resting on their laurels and phoning it in.

Positive aspects first:The ordering process is streamlined. Yes, it is an a la carte menu, but if you aren't sure what you want just step to the side and think about it before you get in line. Once you're in the queue, you start by selecting meats (type and quantity), then side dishes at the next station, and then you pay. Easy and fast. And the staff behind the counter are helpful. It's a clean facility with comfortable seating for both inside and outside dining.Pretty pleased with the jalapeno cheddar sausage as well as the barbecue beans; both were tasty and seemed worthy of their prices. I also appreciate that they offer pickles and onions as accompaniments. As for the less pleasing elements of my visit: The brisket isn't cheap, and nearly half of my cut was fat. Yes, I want some fat in there for flavor, but not half of what I paid for. And I didn't feel as though the brisket had a distinctly smoky or strong flavor either. I've had great brisket (thank you, Texans) and this didn't measure up. Getting in and out of the parking lot is a bit messy. The entrance is on one side of a traffic light, which means it can be difficult and slow for those in the far lane to cross over to the entrance. And then the exit is on the other side of the traffic light, and only allows for right-turn departures. It simply isn't a convenient place to access or leave. Verdict: It's nice to have barbecue options that vary from the Lexington-style standard. If the brisket had been smokier and meatier, you'd see especially high marks from me here, but I'll trim my ratings down to 3.5 stars to offset the somewhat disappointing cut of beef. If I'd stuck to the sausage and beans alone -- 4.5.

This was not just around the corner so after a 30 minute drive we arrived. I read many reviews about Black Powder and had been looking forward to coming here. It is counter service that moves quickly with the menu board above.I ordered the beef brisket sandwich with a side of the Gouda Mac n cheese and then got a second side of greens. The brisket was chopped not sliced and piled high on the bun. The counter guy gave me a small side of slaw to put on top and I chose the Eastern Carolina sauce...I think called The Mop. The sauce went perfect with the brisket and even without sauce it was delicious and full of a smoked flavor. The Mac n cheese was a bit wet but extremely tasty and the greens were excellent and I added a small amount of the same sauce. To me this was great BBQ and I highly recommend anyone coming here that likes BBQ.

Nothing special here. Brisket on the dry side. Service was good other than determined to up sale right out of the gate. With the rating we thought we may have to wait. Only few customers were dining. Bar area was full with employees. Wouldn't make a special trip to return.

We tried the brisket, pulled chicken, jalapeño sausage and a kids chicken tenders. They were all extremely good. For sides we tried the Mac and cheese, green beans and fries. The green beans tasted like vinegar so if you do not like vinegar, I wouldn't recommend them. Service was excellent. Would definitely go back!

This place serves up a variety of smoked meats, typical sides, and they serve beer - yeah! They opened in 2019 in a converted gas station, and have kept that motif! There is another location in Asheboro. This spot has become very popular, but there are areas that might not please all, me included. The restaurant is located in a congested area where traffic is coming from a variety of angles, getting in or out of the lot has some aspects of risks. The interior is modern, functional but not setup for comfortable dining. The seating consists of wooden tables and chairs inside, some metal chairs and picnic tables outside. Frankly, there is some confusion as to what to order and exactly how to order - much is a la carte, making a value assessment problematic! And there is the always present pressure of keeping the line moving - not a fan! Folks working the line are less than engaging, not particularly helpful when ask a question! There is no table service, you queue up and move down a service line, like you did in grade school. First step is to order your protein - sandwich or otherwise, then slide to your left and choose sides if you are so inclined. Finally sliding up to where the toll is paid. You are given a metal tray with your choices, and a cup for your beverage - water is an option! I ordered 1/4 lb of brisket with sides of collards and cole slaw - this totaled $14.50 ( with the small sides coming in at $3.50 each), and no bread was included - you can purchase 2 slices for $.50! The 1/4 lb of brisket consisted of 3 slices (no weighing done here, interesting that 1/4 lb is equal to exactly 3 slices - I guess all briskets are the same size and weight, and though hand-cut, those slices are precise - amazing! Taste was decent, but lacked the outside bark slow cooking usually brings to the table, texture was a bit off, slices fell apart when even gently moved - this shouldn't happen! There is better brisket available in the Triad, especially in the Winston area, and often at much better prices, same with the sides - $3.50 for the small amount received is over the top.I also purchased a couple of Jalapeño Smoked Sausages for $6 each, which is not a bad price - the smoked sausage offered at Little Richard's in Winston goes for $7.50, almost identical in size. I did enjoyed the sausages! This place is well marketed, all the right things are said, but my overall experience was that there is more shown than substance here, and the value simply isn't there given the quality of food, minimal service provided, portion size, and an ambiance that is also minimal!Ambiance - 2.5Food - 3Service - 2Value - 2Edited to respond to owner's comments:Mr Henning, thanks for your very civil and informative reply. I expected that there would be one based on the development and promotion of your business model and your obvious attention to detail! While the remarks were both interesting and informative, my review stands as accurate account of my experience. You have a model that works for many folks, there are just aspects that don't meet my preferences - preferences built over many years. I will return again at some point, maybe for take out!I wish you continued success.

Holy Smokes! Pun intended. This place is amazing and delicious. The staff was super friendly and cordial and walked me through the menu as I wanted to take home dinner for the night. I highly recommend this spot in Jamestown. Their BBQ was tender and succulent. Place is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. Everything is expensive these days but at least I don't have to cook tonight!

I love BP! I have been going steady since they opened right before the Pandemic! You walk in the front door and you're greeted by meats, chatters, smoke, and southern hospitality! I've had almost everything on their menu over the years and have never been disappointed. That is, except for today and really it just a minor flavors not adding up for my taste buds. I did not like the country fried ribs. The breading was reminiscent of that of shake and bake and it added an artificial sweetness to the meat that was already smoked to perfection and then deep fried. I know right, too much! But as always they came through pulled pork, banana pudding, skins, ice water with lemon, you name it!! I love it here! Awesome place.
